Let’s get realistic. We are starting, in terms of minutes, three freshman playing games that last forty minutes vis a vis thirty two minutes in high school. They will be playing guys who are more physically mature and more experienced from a basketball perspective. There will be lots of traveling over the course of the season. The season is far longer than in high school. The bottom line is that there will be a “wall” at some point. There is no way they can. be expected to run up and down the court and play stifling defense without cost.

Don’t need to play stifling defense if you’re out scoring your opponent every game. The key to this team will be execution and attention to detail. Chemistry is already off the charts as can be evidenced not by just the freshman contributing but the abundance of transfers. There’s a reason Hayes, Derkack, and Martini are getting so many minutes. Love the minutes distribution so far by Pikiell. Ogbole needs to step it up because he will be our biggest reason for success or failure in B1G play on defense imo.
Tyson Acuff will get more play as he continues to get back to full health. I assume Jwill is nursing something as well. Regardless, it’s good to get as many of the new guys as many minutes as possible in these early games. The schedule won’t be any easier that’s for sure.

That's why you have a full roster. Everyone has a role to play. Athletes at this age can bounce back quickly if they take the right approach. You're right about playing more physically mature and experienced guys, but those same guys are not use to playing top 5 lottery picks. It's a two way street. That is something often forgotten in this board when trying to make a point.

The true elephant in the room...as we learned in football season...is injuries.
Rutgers plays in a tough, physical conference. And it's a long season. The health of guys that are only gonna be here for one season is crucial.

It will be interesting, I think Ace will encounter the larger learning curve, time, space and the speed of the game will be eye opening.
I agree a physical wall shouldn’t be an issue with either player, too young.

PS….AAU, All Star games/camps and scrimmaging with pros is not the same animal.

Yup, there’s nothing you can do to prevent a broken wrist, finger, ankle sprain etc…

I agree 100% with the premise of the OP.......I also know that Pike is VERY aware of the issue. Pike will do EVERYTHING in his power to limit the minutes on these 2, and it won't be easy. He has done it already, but against lesser opponents.

The wall is real and they will hit it. The good news is they will most likely get through it and they hopefully don't hit it at the same time.

The St. John's loss was very important in many ways. One of the biggest was showing Pike what happens when certain players get tired and I think it reinforced the need for everyone to get rest....especially Harper.

Queen of MD won't escape the wall either.

Load management …is critical . If I’m the coach, it’s 27 min max for Dylan and Acw

Did you pay attention to the schedule that Dylan and Ace had during and after their high school seasons last year? They were constantly in USA and other camps plus all star games from March into June. I remember people on these boards commenting on Dylan needing to slow down and not burn himself out. While I expect them to have some inconsistent performances along the way, they have already managed heavy schedules before arriving on campus. Lathan is a bit more of a concern about hitting the wall since that means relying more on Ogbole. I expect the staff will manage their minutes more once they enter the conference portion of the schedule.

hate this arguement....Ace cramped in his 1st game playing 30 minutes.........that is wiffleball...this is baseball.

Yeah, his first game back from an injury where he was limited. And the cramping was Ace's fault because he refused water and Gatorade that the training staff was pushing him to take. If he followed their advice he possibly doesn't cramp at all.

You make excellent points.

Refused water and Gatorade?
99% of hydration issues come from what you do 48 hours before you play.

That is just not correct. At that level of exertion you have to manage hydration and electrolyte replacement during the game.

Off topic, I love survivalist shows, including naked and afraid 😊
I learned from Bear Grylls you’re better of drinking a full 12 ounce bottle of water in hopes you’ll find more, than rationing it an ounce or two at a time….lol
