The setup for This Saturday game is deja vu to 1989 Rutgers-temple at the RAC

People forget that the fire Inspector limited the RAC capacity in 88-89 to 8,000...when it held 8,800. They had to get that fixed for Piscataway for the next year...which they did

Of course, there were about 10,000 in the RAC for the Atlantic 10 final when only 8,000 were allowed to be distributed...and penn state got 2400 (30%) of them under Atlantic ten rules

Why doesn’t Rutgers do a red out. Nobody takes their jacket off. It’s look crazy on tv and you can’t see the students

The lack of red in the stands at basketball games has been awful for a very long time now. It’s a NJ/apathy thing. You can see it in football, as well, over the last few years.

I have asked Sandra time and time again why they don’t start marketing “wear red to the game” again.

Schiano marketed it hard and then it stopped after he left. Everybody wearing has really been just a fleeting thing in RU’s history. Probably about 10 yrs (2005-2015).

How did that happen?

There was a game under Waters where they handed out red and white shirts in alternate sections. Wound up looking pretty good. It was a Coke promotion at the time.

Yes..was not at the Palestra but was watching on was it MSG and crowd/cheerleaders chanting bac2therac became my screename when the message boards arrived in the mid 90s
It was a great crowd and a GREAT win! (Skinny leather ties were in....what can I say!)

This is where the band turned around and played to the student section when we won....

I still have that tee shirt!

February 1989....

Rutgers...coming off three straight losing seasons of 20 plus under littlepage...gets blown off the court in state college by 25...and comes home 10-12

They find a way to get back to 12-12...and have perennial NCAA bound temple with mark Macon and mike vreeswyk coming to town...who Rutgers had not beaten in double digit attempts

It’s a game that Rutgers ...with two road games coming up, had to have to secure a winning season

Rutgers pulls the upset off over temple by a dozen at a great RAC...the first return of the RAC...where the home crowd for the first time the RAC became the RAC again under bob wenzel

Saturday’s game against national ranked Iowa ...a game Rutgers probably must have to have any chance at a .500 season for the first time in 13 years....and will be before a sold out Saturday night crowd at the RAC

Not exactly the same set up ...but somewhat close. Big February game to give a rebuilding program a chance at a winning season.

I remember it well. To sleep, perchance to dream - ay, there's the rub.
