Time to clean house!

Did JMike ever win us a game?
I recall Simpson winning Indiana and PSU games. last year.
Silly me.

The amount of love and free pass that Davis gets is mind boggling and infuriating.
The amount of scorn that Simpson gets is also mind boggling and infuriating.
One of them is tight with an incoming lottery pick recruit. Davis is almost certainly going to be here next year so it's not really worth discussing whether he should be back because he will be.

Agree, but we can debate whether he’s a high major guard. I don’t think he is. It’s also mind blowing how a Big10 starting guard can’t shoot FTs.

True but when Ace leaves…..
And have to read posts over who is a baller?
And how he has some how earned or deserved his right to return?
Or because he is a freshman he’s so much better than a sophomore?
Or more of an upside?

When we were 10/10 I stated my doubts of Rutgers winning more than 5 more or 15 total . We’ll see very soon but two consecutive years of college crapping the bed in the final month of the season…Injuries galore… dumb turnovers… no offense … coaching questions. Yet many still hanging onto several years ago.

You’ll be waiving your pom poms like a good little boy at the start of next year
😊😊😊 Don’t know your problem… just made a prediction like many others. Once again started watching Rutgers basketball long before you were out of daddy’s sack. I am as big a fan of Rutgers as anyone. When you reach the over 50+ years as a MBB fan get back to me .

When Ace leaves Davis will be a soph going into his junior year so he will be evaluated more critically.

JMike’s shooting is atrociously bad, free throw shooting is mind boggling bad. If his shooting does not improve (hopefully next year he’s at least above 60% from the line, 60 something percent is not good), hopefully he finishes at rim and in the lane better and develops a better outside shot. If not, hard to picture him playing a lot as a high major guard. JMike and Simpson have a lot in common when it comes to shooting and that’s not a good thing. JMike is at least a year behind Derek as a Freshman so he has that going for him I guess. If Simpson and JMike were in a boat and both fell out, would either one of them hit water?

Focus in cleaning may not be in the right direction. Poor shooting & offensive woes have plagued the program for years. Defensive coaching can stay out.

Who handles the offensive schemes?
Shooting?
Free throws?
Big man low post development?

Need some changes here:

Head coach: Steve Pikiell
Associate head coach: Brandin Knight
Assistant coaches: TJ Thompson, Marlon Williamson.
Chief of Staff: Steve Hayn
Director of Basketball Operations: Mike Larkin
Director of Basketball Administration: Scott Scherer
Video Coordinator: Mike Sasso
Graduate Assistant: Tyler Cook

Absolutely this too. Need to make some tough goodbyes during the off season. Add strength and conditioning guys too…Cliff and Simpson are exhibit A and B.

I drove from Long Island and back yesterday to watch that abomination. Embarrassing. The fact is the recruiting has not been up to par the last few years and it is showing. No excuses next year for Pike.

Personally I think way more of us should want than Derek back than seem to. He was in his head this year. He was as good as Davis his Frosh year. Sophomore slump for sure. Plus he's going to be like the 8th/9th man if he stays. We aren't getting a better portal player to come in and fill that role. Plus he's a Jersey guy, been a RU ambassador since he stepped foot on campus. Made big plays for us and won multiple games for us.

I just think in general with this portal a guy has a rough stretch and half the fanbase wants him gone for some shiny new toy they have no real idea if he'll be any better. I'm more loyal than that 🤷‍♂️
By rough stretch you mean 90% of games halfway through his career?

Outside of one few game stretch last season he's only had a handful of good shooting games in his entire 1st two seasons

A lot of talk about Simpson being "inconsistent" but he's actually been remarkably consistent with a few outlier good shooting nights

It's unfortunate, but true. I just don't see someone shoot terrible for 2 seasons then all of a sudden become a good shooter. It really is wishful thinking

From a roster construction perspective, we could really use a shooter over what Simpson brings since Davis can fill that role

Simpson shot 50+% FG% in just three (3) games this season: Howard 7-10, at Ohio State 9-16, at Michigan 7-13. That's an amazing statistic. Scangg is right, he was very consistent.

I guess it depends on who you replace him with and whether or not it's a clear upgrade.

I don't expect him to turn into a lights out shooter all of a sudden but I think he does improve since he will be taking way less shots next year and I'd expect the quality of shot he's taking will go up with defenses keying on others.

I also think if he were to come back he's coming off the bench. I think a guy who has been in Pike's system for two years is very valuable to a team...esp with so many moving pieces year over year.

I do agree that Simpson and Davis are similar guards and it would be helpful to have a better shooter. I guess I'm just skeptical we are going to entice that player to come here and play limited minutes. TBD...

Pike could close his eyes and pick a random name in the portal and they would be a better shooter so that's not really a concern. Even a bad shooter is an upgrade. As for quality of shots he is missing wide open mid range jumpers constantly and can't finish at the rim. If he does come back there is nowhere to go but up I guess is the silver lining

The question would be whether or not we can land a shooter who is good enough to be a weapon, and if they are able to do other things on the court... or be a shooting specialist only

Noah ended up with good 3 point numbers for example but struggled with other aspects of the game that kept him off the court

The thing is, there are a lot of teams out there. Why would a better shooter come to RU for limited minutes and/or minimal NIL ?

There isn't limited minutes. There's a whole lotta minutes for a shooter. And you (nor I) don't know anything about the NIL situation
