That the game was great has nothing to do with NIL good or bad. I believe most people think that the main issue with NIL is the rich getting richer, and a loss of competition as a small handful of teams consolidate power. So the fact that the small handful of football oligarchs had some good games with each other says nothing about the overall impact of NIL on college football.

The NIL hasn’t changed a thing. We couldn’t compete with Big Boys pre NIL and we can’t compete with them post NIL

Disagree. Pre NIL we weren't competing, but we had some momentum and hope. The recruiting class GS brought in his first year back, with many 4 stars, seems out of reach just a few years later.

In other ground breaking news, I tried seven different, new beers today. Hardly watched much college or pro ball the past two days. Take that NIL!!!,

I hate New Year's Eve specials. I watched 3 of them last night. Dolly Parton looked waaaay better than Miley Cyrus, but I don't want to hijack this great thread.
I'll partially agree there. Dolly still rocks it despite reliance on plastic surgery miracles. I thought Miley was pretty cute and she has begun developing her NYE niche. She was more pleasing to the eye than Zach Brown and any other stations where we're playing at my NYE venue.

There were two different ones from Nashville. I'm not really into country music, but the bands on both the channels in Nashville looked more like heavy metal bands.

People know this is accurate , that’s why the Hijacking.
Nailed it …again !

I'm not paying kids, who are already getting a free education to play a game, money to get more tattoos.

If a player's family is in need of course the Rutgers community would step up and help. But pay for play ain't for me.

What momentum and hope? As for the recruiting class maybe it not the NIL but the coaching staff. Hard to recruit when you aren’t winning and you best recruiter leave.

The lack of significant NIL support from this fanbase is sad and disappointing, even though other fans provided a platform to facilitate it.
I don't understand the problem. We have very lucrative t-shirt and NFT businesses that I was reliably informed would allow us to compete with the national powerhouses in NIL.

While I watched a portion of the TCU/UM game and all the OSU/Georgia, I watched nearly none of the other bowl games this year. I caught the end of Kansas Arkansas which was entertaining. With all the kids opting out of bowl games and just the sheer number of games, with mediocre teams, the quality of bowl games has taken a hit for the viewing public unless you are a fan of one of the teams. Even in those situations you are watching with a lens towards next year as much as finishing this one.

I think the move to 12 teams in the playoffs is going to be a mistake as well. There just are not that many teams worthy of playing for the championship. I know why it is being expanded but that does not make it right just like NIL. I might be able to get behind 6 or 8 but certainly not 12. Also going to twelve will further kill the other bowls which maybe a good thing given the amount of .500 teams getting bowl invites.

I agree on all points. I also think moving off of January 1st for all of the major bowls is a mistake (even if it is a Sunday and the NFL is planning to play). The big bowls should contractually refuse to move. Jan 1 used to be a college football holiday ... now it's just a couple of exhibition games (with big name players sitting out) while you wait to watch the playoffs. The only one that even pretends to be important anymore is the Rose Bowl.

GS would of had us competitive, pulling upsets and playing meaningful games in November by year 5, under the portal rules and no NIL in place the day he signed on for 2.0

I don’t think it’s sad in the least.
Find a billionaire and stop blaming the fanbase
I don’t think it’s fair to blame the fanbase . But what is wrong of the fanbase to do is cry wolf and whoa is me. . It’s little boys crying wolf and many did the same thing with the Chop 4 change political statement . Let’s face it many of these people are addicted to rutgers football or will have a big void in their life without it.

Wow, what a bad take . There were some wonderful games !! Kansas-Arkansas was just one you mention.
Oklahoma-FSU and I could go on!
Obviously, posted by a Scrooge who didn’t watch these great games ! College football is as popular and good as ever

No one has to go without it, interest wanes because football recruiting and games are boring as shite.

I personally don’t watch opt-out college football bowls…. I didn’t watch a single gane after Army- Navy until the final 4

The team has been terrible for the past 10 years . Those fans that stuck through it then, will stick through it now . If people were that turned off by NIL, they would be gone by now . My point is they aren’t. I guarantee you fans like yourself will be here in 5 years no matter how bad the team is or whatever happens with NIL. And there is no scenario that the team gets better and we lose fans.
Plus, there is a contingent here that boasts so much about the academic alliance or whatever it is with the BIG schools, they don’t mind stinking in football.

That’s a bad reason. There were some incredible games. Also, when guys opt out it gives other guys a chance to step up . This was one of the best bowl seasons ever with the final 4 being fabulous as well.

Bad reason for you, not for me.
I can’t make myself have interest in watching backups play, my disinterest comes natural

Rutgers seems to have lots of men that enjoy discussing its problems and offer many opinions to fix them. Die hards that find a way to spend lots of time on the boards daily talking every subject imaginable. The last time an update was given the turnout on the match and in basketball double match is very very low. Why spend so much of your time on something when you really don’t care? Boredom? Not much going on? I don’t get it

Do you follow all these teams close enough to know who the backups are ? Because I don’t. That would be impressive

I watched bits and pieces of those 2 games, but only because there were Big 10 teams in them. I've watched some of the other bowls as I have in the past, sometimes there's entertaining play, some times not, but I always enjoy college football. As for the players, whether they were starters or backups, for most teams I have no idea who the players are.

I completely agree, and I think it's going to drive interest ever farther down.

“Still here”
Who cares, NIL and free agent portal turn me off because GS would have had us in an excellent spot by year 5 without it.
No scenario the team loses fans?
A ghost town stadium says otherwise

Just pointing out that our starting QB opted out of his entire HS season after 1 game to move on and prepare himself for playing football at the next level.

Personally, I think that's a much bigger "abandoning your teammates" scenario.
I also don't really care in both situations.

Not caring is exactly what it says, if you don’t care, you don’t care.

And I’m saying I hate NIL and portal, as it pertains to it’s adverse affect on RU football, not over all, it’s taken GS and us out of the game.
So if you ask me about NiL and portal, my answer is sucks for RU football.
If you ask me about opt-out bowl game football, my answer is sucks for me.

My suggestion is you not allow the dilemma of posters who’ve been here for 30 years and remain not weigh you down to much.

Once again it needs to be black or white for some. I don't think you realize how interested/emotionally invested some were in RU and college athletics over professional sports prior to the recent changes. I still care, but I am just choosing to reduce my level of interest because I don't like what is going on. Legalizing behaviors to make the sport more professional is a turn off and leads me to the conclusion I might as well focus my time and efforts elsewhere. Life is too short to wait for college athletics to figure this out. Doesn't mean I don't want us to do well but it am not compelled to believe I am responsible for whether we succeed or not.
