Sure there were some differential in talent. But leaving wide open cutters, points in paint, spacing issues, no identity on O, hs level turnovers and on and on.

Really wished Eddie with his RU background would succeed. A good guy. Unfortunately it looks like we may need to start again with a detail oriented coach.

Yes there is a talent gap, but there was an even bigger effort gap.

Forget recruiting, Eddie needs to show he can get 18-22 year olds to play hard. I am under the assumption he can't.

Mr Nice Guy isn't working. the team mailed it I in the 2nd half. Freshman who should be battling for minutes looked like they were playing a pick up game at 10pm.

This was a welcome to college ball moment for Sanders. There was a big talent gap and effort gap. The only thing I fault Eddie on is leaving Daniels in way too long.

I never want to see Daniels ever again. Horrible player. horrible.

Eddie is in way over his head. Glaring and obvious weaknesses that make success impossible:
1) No scheme. We have no identity on offense or some semblance of even trying to do something. This isn't the NBA. Getting in a set and say make some plays doesn't work unless you have crazy talent. We don't, which gets to point 2.
2) Recruiting. Our talent level, while still not reaching it, isn't good. And that isn't being addressed in recruiting.
3) Effort- any coach worth their salt would have been in those kids faces all afternoon for what they were putting on the floor. Eddie's personality doesn't allow him to do that. Even millennials can't be told everything is fine when it isn't.
4) Defensive communication. Effort is part of that, but these kids don't even try to talk. It's why it is a dunk highlight film against them.
5) Overall IQ. There is none. At this level, it is too late to learn it.

Eddie just isn't the person to get this done. It is so obvious. Watch almost any other game, you see strategy, team play, effort, coaching. If the game was played the way we play, I would never have been a fan in the first place. This is an affront to the sport.

Its always about talent regardless of the sport.Rutgers doesn't have one player that would start for Seton Hall right now.Sanders is a very good player but is surrounded by teammates that can't finish .Rutgers went 12 minutes without scoring which clearly is a talent issue more so than coaching.

For a program that has been so bad for so long the absence of player development has destroyed this program. The few playmakers have transferred after two years and what has been left is a squad full of complementary players who simply are no better than MAC level players.

Getting out rebounded by 16 today is a bad sign for this program. The one pass, drive and chuck up junk offense was not a good sign either.

Wow, there is an enormous talent difference. We only have one decent D1 player. The SHU walk on who hit the 2 threes at the end of the game has a better looking shot than anyone we have. By far. We can't run an offense because we don't have the necessary talent for many options within any structure.

It can't be understated how awful Daniels was. Him being inserted in the game was the turning point. However........

If we are going to have any success this year Eddie has to get him turned around. He can do things that only Sanders can do. People (myself included) need to realize that he is not a bad guy. His problem is he is trying to do too much (way too much).

Fans need to be supportive here. I understand it is difficult. We need to be better than those booing Laviano.

A few rows below me was someone I believe connected to Bishop (family or friend?). He had words with a fan. Reminds me that there is a human element.

From all accounts Bishop is a nice kid and I know there is a professor that thinks so.

Several responses to OP and others: it is absolutely about talent. We don't have enough of it. We cannot play in the B1G and would be just as bad in the Big East., Yes, the coaching seemed unable to make necessary adjustments or to motivate the players and was lacking in every way, but this IS about the lack of B1G level talent. This team threw in the towel in the 2nd half, or even before that. It was discouraging and alarming. The absence of Freeman was more than apparent; our front court guys were absolutely helpless to stop their forwards or to rebound. I hate to say it but this could easily be a 7 win season; I had predicted 8 to 9. If that happens, look for transfers and poor recruituing. This is back to the Littlepage final year with 5 wins but it's worse, because the present competition is much tougher. Maybe the whole thing needs to blow up. Hill, Rice, now Eddie struggling. But you can't put the whole thing on Eddie; we just do not have the players.

We will not recruit talent with our facilities. We will not recruit a coach with our facilities.

I agree with the talent issue. No one will confuse SHU with UK but the Pirates were much more athletic and stronger than the Knights. EJ may not be a great X and O coach but I am not sure that it would matter with his current team. I have never seen Freeman play so he may well be a high end player.

Not true at all. The opposite is. It doesn't take talent to pass and set picks and play as a team. It's how David beats Goliath. We aren't even David.

I think we have more talent than people here, but that's fine. Whether we do or not, there is no defending the lack of effort and focus by RU. I have literally never seen a college team as imprecise on offense as RU was today. There is more teamwork shown in pickup games than by our team. Absolutely no inside knowledge, but my impression of EJ today was that he has kind of packed it in. Being a coach at RU must be challenging and he just does not seem long for the college game.

Will you people stop the bull about facilities being the reason we can't get quality recruits here. Go down to the wrestling practice room in the bowels of the college Ave Gym. It is probably the worst in the country. Check out Coach Goodale's 9 year record. We are currently ranked # 10 I the country!

Dalton Soffer is a scholarship player for SHU

Perhaps I should restate my point a bit differently. Any offensive structure looks to generate particular kinds of shots. It could be drive and pitch, low post based, Princeton style, whatever. We actually don't have anyone in a half court set that can make shots under any style. Even when we get what should be the easy inside shot we can't convert. Why? Because the defender is bigger, stronger and can jump higher. It's about talent. Our potentially best half court player is actually Daniels because he can at least get to the rim on his own.

In my opinion we should be relentlessly pushing the ball upcourt. It's the only hope. And that's not to say I think it would be successful.

I'm not talking about making shots. That is talent. I'm talking about having and running a system that gets you to the point of even taking shots. That is simply coaching and drilling. We do none of it. It's dribble dribble dribble chuck. Daniels is averaging more turn around jumpers that Larry Bird ever did for crying out loud.

No semblance of a system to even generate shots. That isn't talent. That's lack of coaching and a plan.

The talent gap is pretty big. Coaching is lacking too imo. But I don't get why Delgado was not double teamed, as most teams have done that successfully. Angel gets down on himself easy and his whole game can be affected by a bad start. The comments Eddie made about rebounding were so odd. Hope you can change coaches and not be stifled by buyout requirements like ywe have been. The new ad seems an odd choice for a big ten school. Good luck guys. Who ever said being a fan is easy?

We are fans, we are all going to criticize players that are killing us from time to time. But do quietly to your friends or in discussions. Verbally abusing your own players at the game is inexcusable.

NBA teams have schemes. They're not just getting in a set and "making plays". Eddie did that crap in the NBA, and lost doing it. A lot. No good NBA team plays that way, and no good college team does, either.
