Here’s what he said. “RU won’t want to hear this or believe this, but if they ever want to be a consistently elite program, they need to make a change at the top. Goody is a good guy but he isn’t a good coach. He lucked out by bringing in some outstanding kids who were already outstanding or got better training outside of the program. This is the B1G, you need a B1G coach, not a high school coach.”

Sounded a little harsh, but I dont know much about wrestling. does this guy have a point or is he just a hater?

I'd be on board with trying to upgrade Leonardis for the upperweights. Don't have to necessarily fire him, but maybe nudge him towards a HC job in D3 or low level D1.

IMO it is all about who you recruit. We have missed out on some real hammers and they are kicking butt at other schools. We have also brought in one or two "hammers" that have not lived up to their rankings. Not sure is that because of coaching but I doubt it. One thing that is obvious, RU has missed big time on having 2 NC'c and one of the best home atmospheres in the country and building on that. We saw last year less attendance and I hate to admit it , if we keep losing dual meets to to the lower end B1G schools we will see less and less crowds out at our matches.
Princeton has passed us during this time also. I hate say it but if Princeton now offers a kid a place to wrestle for them and to get a PU degree after wrestling , who cares about crowd size.

We heard the excuses last year but it is getting a little louder.

Minnesota is definitely a bit more active than Purdue, but I feel Rutgers pushed the pace in a lot of these matches today. Yet, some how, I have seen more stall calls against Rutgers
