Lets be clear here. Using non-standard accounting they werent losing money. Using standard NCAA accounting they were.

Exactly. If you listen to Paul Finebaum or Tim Brando on Satellite radio, they have been talking about this topic for quite a while. And they have been very critical on Paul Bryant Jr for being the ring leader, pulling the strings behind the scenes to kill off UAB football, if not all UAB D1 sports. He made sure Alabama did not play UAB in football, which would have been a huge payday for UAB football, instead UAB had to go to Mississippi to get high profile OOC games. Lets be clear here. Using non-standard accounting they werent losing money. Using standard NCAA accounting they were.

All they did was calculate scholarships as hard costs. NCAA standard is to calculate as out of state tuition which is stupid. My favorite part of the article is this, "even without including the anticipated but hard-to-quantify benefits to admissions and enrollment, donations, and media exposure."
