Saw this quote from Jordan. I think it was accurate and shows what playing in your face D can do.
, we were a little bit spooked by their denials and their playing in the passing lane. Our offense got moved out further and further, and we lost some confidence there. We have to get that back.”
Clemson had some good athletes.
Playing great D is ONLY about effort and working hard. Is that correct ? I've heard that mentioned on this board several times.
MY VIEW.....playing great defense is about being athletic, having great lateral quickness and sliding your feet, having great instincts to anticipate what will happen next (Aaron Craft was one my favorites) etc .....typically, these things cannot be taught at any level. Either you have it or you don't.
Coaches are responsible for putting guys in the correct position on the court based on the situation and constantly drilling it so that it becomes natural. BUT, if a guy does not have the instincts or lateral quickness to cover the passing lanes and still recover back to their man.....they will get beat.
If effort and working hard made someone a great defender....you would probably have about 75 million great defenders in the US alone....lol
