Sanders averaged over 4 assists a game which is a good stat for a pg. Our other guards were no where near that figure. Perhaps the kid from Columbia is very good but we also have Nigel Johnson, Mike Williams and Matt Bullock. Mullins will only be here for one year, Williams and Johnson have two more and Bullock has four. I will trust Pikiell on any decision he makes.
Maybe he only scores in the regular season, and turns into a defensive specialist in the postseason?

When I was being recruited by Princeton to play football in '67 (yes, they were still playing single wing), I stayed with a sophomore football player and his two roommates, Geoff and John. Being from Chicago, I knew zip about East Coast bball. We got to talking and I said they didn't look like football players, and they said, "No, we're on the basketball team." I told them I was going to go to the game, and was it likely that they would get to see the court. Geoff says to John, "Whaddya think? We get in the game tonight or not?" John replied, "I think we will." I say, "Well, that's really exciting!"
The game was against Columbia, Dillon Gym was packed, and I sat on the floor underneath the basket. Geoff Petrie and John Hummer put up 52 against Jim McMillan and Heywood Dotson in an incredible victory, including an illegal slam dunk by Hummer at the end of the game.
Columbia vs UC Irvine is a very different level of CBB than what RU fans are used to watching. The ball skills and quickness of the players is nowhere near B1G level.
Columbia is fun to watch. And where else can you watch players named Cohen and Rosenberg take the ball to the basket ?
I remember the Little Nash Rambler:I remember the Nash Rambler.
Naah, he's like Ogden Nash.Assuming you mean to compare him to Steve Nash, not Rick Nash?
Yep, but only for one year. Concussions and the need to end the war in Vietnam brought my football career to an early close. Getting to block for Hank Bjorklund and playing against Ed Marinaro and Dick Jauron was fun. Had I stayed with it, I would have started in the 100th anniversary game against RU in '69. Guy who played behind me as a freshman started instead. Sometimes I regret giving it up, but the more I read about CTE, the happier I am with the decision!Great story! So did you end up playing football at PU?

I actually knew a guy who did that. Dropped out, served for three years, came back and joined our class. We became really good friends. All of us anti-war protestors loved to hang out with this guy because he had such amazing stories. We all hated the war, but were impressed as hell with this guy who was a vet. As for me, I just dropped off the football team, stayed at Princeton. (And yes, I know Knightmoves was being sarcastic, but some folks might not realize that. Do not want to pretend for a minute that I am a vet because I am not. I honour all those folks who served.)Must have bumped your head pretty good to drop out of Princeton to go to Vietnam in the late 60's. But thank you for your service.

We have to Skype. Seriously.
Connie, the woman you saw a few years ago....lives in Oregon. She / her husband lived in West Linn....and bought a house from Geoff Petrie about 1985. She also met Clyde the Glide / Duckworth amongst others.

I'll light the fire...Only if Crosby, Stills and Young join in.
I watched much of the game. Mullins played very well. He moves the ball well against a zone. He was the high scorer with 20 points. He shot 3-4 on threes and I think 6-7 on fg's. I suppose he could be a decent pickup if Bullock plays SF and in case Sanders, Johnson or Williams don't pan out or get injured. With reliable guards guys could rotate and get some rest. Who even knows if Mullins would even be interested in RU. He does seem like a decent shooter and an unselfish player.
Randal7,
I don't follow Columbia that closely, but are you sure that he hadn't withdrawn from school the year he was out with the concussion? What you said is correct about the 4 years, but...
My friend's son is the best player on the team(Alex Rosenberg) and he had to withdraw from school last year while out with his injury so he could come back again this year to play and go to school. Columbia did have a really good year.
Best of Luck,
Groz
I got the scoop post game -- Mullins is already a very hot target and, *gulp* a priority for teams in our conference already. Elite teams in our conference. If we are interested in him it's going to be very tough to grab him given the competition we will be vying with for his services
----I'll light the fire...
You are absolutely right -- much different pace but it's also the offense they run. They intentionally slow it down. Offense is run like a chess match
Mullins with 7 points on 3 of 3 shooting so far with 4 to go in the first half

I thought there was also a connection with Northwestern or I am mistakenIt is and we should!
--------------My brain is a little foggy going back to the great late 70's RU Basketball, but I
vaguely remember playing Columbia to a 2-2 tie at halftime with Tom Penders as the Head Coach.
Now that was before shot clocks and the 4 corner offense was played by a few teams.
Can anyone confirm that???
Having seen Mullin play 6 times live- he is not good enough.
Good enough for cuse and Michigan though. Right.
Taught at RU for 29 years 76-05 (also known as the "lean years" in RU sports). I'm an old Chicagoan (Downers Grove for high school and U of C for PhD), and my kid brother went to Northwestern. Those are basically my links there.I thought there was also a connection with Northwestern or I am mistaken
How many years did you teach at RU
Pikiell should know all about Mullins as Stony Brook defeated Columbia 69-60 this season at Stony Brook. Maybe he is considering Mullins already. He was well aware of Bullock as soon as he got hired so he might already be looking into any interest from Mullins. I liked the way Columbia moved the ball around from player to player. A ball rarely stayed in a player's hand when it was moved. I see many teams do this to hit the open man and tire out the defense but RU often held the ball way too long. Daniels was really bad at this. The defense always got a little rest. I certainly hope that Pikiell's offense will move the ball quickly.
Good enough for cuse and Michigan though. Right.
