We have the worst Marketing department not just in college sports, but anywhere

I'm glad ESPN made it into a story, RU deserves it. If I did something this stupid at my job, I'd be looking for a new job.

If they just listed some of the players instead of saying $1.1B nothing would've been said. This isn't a big deal though.

As a marketing exec myself, I'd say this isn't terrible. Maybe the tweet could've be used directly to recruits, but it actually got people talking about RU hoops. A little press coverage ain't a bad thing even if it's not overly positive.

they are laughing at RU hoops not talking about it

I highly doubt our MARKETING DEPARTMENT is in charge of a tweet that went out......ughhhhh...

This thread is much, much more stupid then the tweet!

Not overly positive is a bit of a stretch and the talk about RU hoops is not even overly positive by RU fans. Yikes!

Not the end of the world. We do look like amateurs, but it does remind the sports world that we've got a new coaching staff that has plenty of experience.

The people who were laughing at RU before are now doing so more vocally - don't really care about them. The responses of people defending the tweet and contextualizing it were likely neutral and are now writing in defense of the program - and I'll take even lukewarm defenders in print, to be honest.

New staff, and there's some new buzz.

While I think it could have been crafted a touch better (the "cha-ching" was a bit over the top), this isn't nearly as bad as some are making it out to be - and actually is bringing some national attention to who our assistant coaches are.

Actually, my impression from afar (and, I doubt that it is unique) is that the folks at Rutgers can't find anything positive to say about their program, itself, so they're inventing connections. It is not so much that people are laughing, but, rather, they're just shaking their heads in collected derision. I suspect that there are the occasional sighs, too. Personally, I think this is a difficult story to 'spin' no matter what shade of lens you wear.

Well, that's actually exactly what they're trying to show. Out with the old... in with the new.

What does the new bring with it? Prior success at other programs (Pikiell and Hobbs at UConn; Knight at Pitt). That's pretty much what we have to market right now - the prior success of our staff at their previous stops, and the "promise" that they'll bring success to the Banks.

"These are the coaches that helped to put those guys into the NBA... now they're together at Rutgers."

Could the message have been conveyed better? Yeah... but the message itself isn't a bad one.

If I'm a top recruit looking to become a pro this is a tweet I like. I want to see the current coaching staff develops pros

How much coverage did the anti-Rutgers New Jersey media give to us the other day when it was announced that everyone in New Jersey could now get FREE Rutgers magnets--
