We Said Good Bye to Our Family Dog Today

Sorry for your loss... She was a pretty girl!

We lost our 12 1/2 yr old Weim on Election Day ... The same day our 15 yr old Doxie was coming home from being hospitalized for four days from a wicked tummy bug...

We put our 14 1/2 yr old cat down last night from end-state kidney disease....

I feel your pain...

I know for us it's been a really rough last four months.

You really can appreciate your four legged friends all the more when you realize how much it hurts when they're gone.

I am so sorry for you and your family. I lost my wife to cancer in May. In June I lost our bichon who I think just couldn't live without my wife. Finally in Sept our mixed terrier who looked like Benjie passed away. She had bladder cancer in July of 2013. She was operated on and went through 5 infusion treatments and never got sick. She made it 14 months and was lovely. I miss all of them every day but at my age and because I am having medical issues of my own I don't think I will get another dog. My wife and I lost 4 of them over the course of our marriage. They were all important members of our family and I treasure every memory of all of them. I hope all of you can get through this and in time remember fondly all of the good times.

I appreciate very much you taking the time to express sympathy for me. You have lost so much in the past year and have my deepest sympathy. I admire your strength. Thank you.

my condolences... not looking forward to when that day comes for my family. Ours is 11 but a very young/active 11.

She is one pretty dog. We do everything for our pets because they do everything that they can for us. Unconditional love. Sorry for your loss but as said previously the memories live on. Those are the cherished thoughts during this time that hopefully bring a smile.

Wis, Cleo's certainly a beautiful dog. I'm so sorry for your loss and will be thinking/ saying a prayer for your family and Cleo. She's forever a part of your family.

I can relate to your loss. Had to let my full sized chow go a while back and am not ashamed to say I cried and mourned her for some time. In time, the loss turns into your better memories that she left you with.

FOR EVERY DOG AN ANGEL Long

I hope this makes you feel better....BTW tomorrow i am picking up 4 Lb mix puppies for the rescue I volunteer with. When/If you are ready there are dogs that will steal your heart again.

A great poem for a great dog... the writing below is from the book
FOR EVERY DOG AN ANGEL

Whenever a puppy is born on earth, a guardian angel waits nearby to welcome
the puppy into the world and take it under her heavenly wings.
......
The guardian angel makes herself very small and snuggles in close to the soft, warm fur, telling her puppy how much it is loved and that it has come into the world for a special purpose. Even though the puppy's eyes are closed, it feels the fluttering wings by its heart and knows its guardian angel is there.

All puppies come into the world with unique gifts. As time passes and the puppy grows, the guardian angel helps her puppy to understand what makes it so very special. Whether they are destined to become fast runners, soulful singers or peaceful sleepers, each puppy is perfect and the angel loves it just the way it is.

The day comes when the puppy must go into the world and start traveling down
its own special path. Sometimes, the path leads to a loving home, where a family is waiting to take their new four-legged friend into their hearts. And the guardian angel is happy, knowing her dog will always have friends to play with, bones to chew on and someone to cuddle up next to at night.

Angels like to visit when their dogs are dreaming. You may have seen a dog's paw moving while it is asleep. Perhaps it is on a high hill in a faraway place, dancing with its guardian angel. All dogs bring the gift of love to the world. In that way they are very much like angels. Dogs will share their love with anyone. They don't ask for anything in return. But if someone takes a moment to scratch a dog under its chin or tell a dog how special it is, you can be sure its guardian angel is smiling.

From time to time, when a certain person and a certain dog meet, something
happens that is just like magic! It is as if they have known each other before. Each knows what the other is thinking and feeling. They will be together always. And the two with love, knowing their dog has found its forever person and the person has found its forever dog.

A forever person and their forever dog will share many experiences over a lifetime, like listening to favorite stories and taking vacations together. They will watch hundreds of sunsets from up on the hill.

But the greatest gift these friends will share is knowing what is in the other's heart. Side by side, looking up at the sky on a starry night, a forever person and their forever dog will share all the secret hopes and dreams that are only told to a very best friend.

A dog can never really be separated from its forever person. Neither time nor space can ever come between them. So when the dog comes to the end of its earthly life, and must go on ahead without its person beside them, the guardian angel becomes a loving bridge that connects the two friends for as long as the person remains on earth.

Sometimes dogs will cross the angel bridge and visit the earth while they are waiting for their forever person to join them. You can never be certain where they might turn up. You may feel four paws padding along next to you when you are in the park. Listen carefully, and you might hear a familiar voice joining in when you go holiday caroling. So if you see the blanket rumple softly after you've curled up for an afternoon nap, it's every possible your forever dog has come back to visit and is napping beside you.

Nothing brings your forever dog more joy than knowing you are happy, even if that means bringing a new dog companion into your life. Your forever dog lovingly remembers the special place it had in your life on earth, and is delighted to know another dog will get to share all the love you have to offer.

Your forever dog may even come back and help your new dog discover the best
spots for burying bones and show them where to watch for your return at the
end of the day. So don't be surprised to see your new dog racing through
the house as if it's playing with an invisible friend....it probably is.

As the years go by you and your dog may find yourselves going more slowly as
you take your daily walks. The time may come when your dog leaves your side
and crosses the bridge to be with your forever dog. In fact, there may be many animals who will share your life during the time you are here on earth. One day, the angel bridge that your forever dog crossed so many years earlier will appear to you. And with the happy heart of a person who is going home, you will cross the bridge and find yourself welcomed by all the animal friends you made when you were on earth.

In the middle of all that love, your forever dog will be waiting for you. It will be like the day you found each other on earth. You will know you have been together before, and nothing will ever separate you again. And the angels will be happy, knowing a forever person and their forever dog have found each other once more

I just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone for their encouragement and support. This was a difficult week but your thoughts and prayers have been encouraging to me. Give your pet an extra treat for me this weekend. God bless.

One last thought, she was the smartest dog I have ever known. She could learn something after a few tries and understood almost everything asked of her. Such a beautiful, smart dog.

Thoughts and prayers to you wisr and your family. Anyone who has ever had a dog understands what you're going through. You just lost a part of your family. She sounds like a sweetie.

Are you planning on getting another Shetland?

When I put my dog down I felt terrible not for one day but for an entire week. One of the toughest goodbyes in my life. I'm sorry to hear about your dog.

So sorry. Dogs become part of your heart and soul. The unconditional love they provide is unique from any human and any other pet.

Sorry to hear that wisr , the quality that pets add to our lives is immeasurable . I've always been amazed how a full day of stress induced human interaction can be erased in 5 minutes when I get home from work and play with my yellow lab. Cleo was gorgeous. Take care.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.

My heart breaks for you. Had to put my boy down at 18 1/2 years the day after my Dad passed away December of 2011. He was a Sheltie mix that was my child. Its never a good time to do so, but a decision that needs to be made in the best interest of the pet. He was blind, had problems with his bodily functions and was confused about his whereabouts in general. Not fair to to keep him tethered to this world for me. Still miss him intensely, but Mom passed away a year and a half ago and left me her 3 kitties. What a world of difference from dogs to cats. Oh boy what fun.

Sorry to hear about your pet dog. My friends had to put down one of their dogs a few months ago, the other hasn't been the same since.

Those Herders are amazing. Our first Border Collie lasted well into 17years..took two shots to put him down. Heart of a lion...We're on #2. (a rescue BC) Both of them are/were smart like you say. Just fantastic dogs. Tough loss.

Yes I miss my bubala our 100 pound rottweiler; I wish she were here right now. She's been gone 10 years and I still miss her. That unrequited love is really special.

Sorry for your loss. She's at the Rainbow bridge now. Dogs are so loyal. Always here to great you at the door when you come home. Doesn't matter who you root for in football...still loves you.may 12 yo jack russell had a tumor removed in February. Don't know what I'll do when I have to make that decision.
