A lot of people are forgetting this while crying that we only won a game by 3 points. Since when is winning a game outright when being a touchdown dog unacceptable?

Btw, if losing to #4 MSU is also unacceptable because there are no moral victories, then why do people complain about winning a close game? Does it count as a moral loss?

Being a near TD touchdown dog to IU - maybe the worst B1G program since forever - in the first place doesn't really give me the warm and fuzzies. To each their own, I guess.

Dont make Indiana out to be horrible. If Sudfield doesn't get hurt they beat OSU. This is their best team in a decade. It's as if Rutgers fans don't watch other games and just look at their win loss record for the past 10 years.

Don't denigrate Indiana. Their offense is very good . And they were missing their running back whop happens been #2 in rushing in the Big ten. It's their defense that's been problematic.

Yes, IU sucks because they have always sucked. Just like Memphis and Temple. And, hmmm, Baylor from the late 90's until 2011.
You forgot that Rutgers has always sucked and Rutgers continues to be a punchline in the media. In the Winners and Losers column for Yahoo Sports, IU was a "Loser" with this piece (query, why couldn't Rutgers be in the "winner" part of the story?):

"Indiana's fourth quarter: This was ugly too. A 19-point fourth quarter lead at home against Rutgers should be safe, right? It wasn't on Saturday. The Scarlet Knights scored 22 straight points in the final period for a 55-52 win. Indiana committed three turnovers in the final 15 minutes. A fumble directly led to a touchdown and Rutgers' first score of the fourth. Then QB Nate Sudfeld threw two interceptions that led to 14 straight points and a tie game. Then a Rutgers field goal capped a 13-play drive with less than five minutes left for the win."

Can we hire Indiana's OC? Actually, I am not sure its the OC.. the problem might be higher up.

1. I think alot of people feel that we should never really have been touchdown dogs to Indiana. The fact that we were says alot about the program. They arent that good. In fact, there is still a decent chance they dont make a bowl this year, despite starting out 4-0. Fortunately for them they still have Maryland and Purdue to finish out the season. But being touchdown dogs to a team that will likely end 6-6 (2-6) should be a reason to be disappointed with the team.

2. Yes - there are moral losses. We have them all the time, as does everyone. Its not a phrasing that people use (usually they go with bad win, or meaningless win), but its one way of looking at it.

At this point to me a win is a win. We clearly arent good enough to just assume victories over anyone but teams outside the top 100 FBS teams.

I don't know about other boards, but here there will always be that element of whiners. If by some chance we were ever to go 13-0 they would be complaining about some of the games where we perhaps didn't win by as many points as we should have. And that we should have accomplished that kind of season the previous year. Or that we are losing too many seniors and won't be able to sustain that level of success the following season.
Hopefully it's just the nature of this type of forum and not the nature of a certain segment of the Rutgers fan base. That would be so sad.

LOL, IU will be lucky if they end up with 1 B1G win by the end of the year.
Crumb,
How about some facts or details on why you think they suck. Did you watch any other games? Or are you going on this one game. My suspicion is that you want to knock IU because you're unhappy with Rutgers and there is no way Rutgers could have beat a good team.

Who cares a win is a win. I am more concerned that they put up 52 on us vs. only winning by 3. Teams continue to gain yardage and the QB has all day to make decisions exposing our young db's. That is what people should be worrying about.

I believe playing Indiana we were looking in a mirror and didn't like what we saw

Yes we were 6.50 pt underdogs but what do you expect -- we had our HC suspended for 3 games and attending his first game back , all of the player dismissals and suspensions including much of our defensive backfield, Hamilton hurt , Carroo suspended , Laviano first year starting with all of 4 games under his belt as starter, and Sudfield starting. Despite all of these issues , one could question why only 7 pt underdogs.

This team has talent and its noteworthy that their on field improvement each game has been noticeable.

Not that you are really interested, Hardy boy #1...

I've watched most of two of their other games (OSU and PSU).

Even bad teams rise to the occasion once in a while...outcome is still an L 95% of time in those games. I'm a RU fan, I've seen enough moral victories to last a lifetime. People still wax poetic on this board about the Miami game we lost by several touchdowns. It's actually a highlight for us lol.

For mediocre/bad teams, you'll usually get one of those per year. OSU was theirs, MSU was ours. I don't expect too much out of either against good teams the rest of the year. They both had their one real chance and blew it.

PSU, they got throttled by an average team just like we did. Didn't watch, but they barely scraped by some crappy teams in OOC. They are 0-3 in conference now. Computer models think they are pretty much garbage. Not sure how this all ads up to IU=good team. Because they can score some points? Ummm, OK.

IU is not good, but we want RU to do well, so I understand why most try to convince themselves a moral victory and miracle comeback against a bad team actually mean something in the grand scheme of Flood's career here. I wish I could do that too, it would make being an RU fan easier, but I don't have the ability to lie to myself (and I understand sample size lol).

Still suspicious?

IU played without Sudfield and their starting RB (who at the time was leading the nation in rushing yards) against PSU. Those two guys are top 5 players at their position in the Big Ten and I would argue that Sudfield and Connor Cook are the best NFL QB in the Big Ten. So RU beating IU with Sudfield on the road, in my book, is a good win vs a good team. IU will beat Maryland, Purdue and will knock off a good team. So there goes your "lucky for 1 more Big Ten win". They make a bowl game and I wouldn't be surprised if they get 7-8 wins. Agree to disagree.
