Why is the new UGA HC coaching as the DC for Alabama?

Kirby Smart has secured verbals from a 5-star QB and a 4-star LB. I'd assume some CA critics would be a bit more relaxed if he got a commitment or two.

Yahoo sports had an article about this. He wants that championship ring to help recruiting with his new school. Any coach who's current team is still playing for the National championship would have to stay with the team. Its a no-brainer. I'm not sure about the Fiesta Bowl but OSU is a top 5 power and the more experience Ash gets with them, the better.

I thought big name programs didn't allow that?

If Alabama wins he will be coaching there until January 11th... boy imagine the riots here if OSU was in the title game. [roll]

I am not one of the people that is screaming for Ash to leave OSU but are you really this dense that you dont know the difference?

I dont think you are. You wanted to start a flame thread. Nice job.

This is a stupid thread and a clear flame thread. The only reason I responded to it was to let you know. I agree with RUPartisan if you can't tell the difference I suggest you stop watching college football because you don't know what the hell your watching anyway.

I can't tell the difference, do I not know what I'm watching, and should I quit watching?

OK Zap if you can't tell the difference between going for a National Championship and the BattleFrog Fiesta bowl featuring the 7th and 8th ranked teams, then I really don't know what to tell you. Good game yes, but not exactly a National Championship on the line here. You know better, I know your just trying to be argumentative.

No sir, I'm not being argumentative.
Ash has a big National Championship ring already.
His loyalty and integrity is to his players and the head coach who hired him. I think it's important to him to finish his job.

Ok my post was in reply to the original OP. He was saying imagine the riots here if OSU was going to the National Title game and still coaching until Jan. 11th. I think most here would understand if this was the case, I know I would as it is a rare occurrence. Except if your Alabama where it happens every other year. I didn't like that he was staying for OSU's bowl game but I understand his reasoning behind it and have moved on from it. But if you insist on not being able to see the difference between a National Championship game and a bowl featuring the consolation prize winners ranked 7th and 8th, then yea I really don't know what to tell you. Hell this isn't even a common occurrence as most coach's bolt to the tune of almost 80%.

Bingo! This is a matter of loyalty and integrity is to his players and the head coach who hired him - and the commitment that Ash made - that he explained to Hobbs & Barchi & Greg Brown - and that they wholeheartedly endorsed & accepted & identified as one of the many aspects that impressed them - was not conditional - it was not subject to whether there was enough in it for Chris Ash - it was a simple and straightforward commitment of integrity to finish the season.

The idea that Chris Ash should only be expected to honor his commitment if there was a national championship game on the line - sounds a lot like "situational integrity / situational ethics" - and frankly I am glad that Chris Ash has not wavered one iota - that he has steadfastly stuck to his commitment - and has managed to concurrently make great progress on his Rutgers plans.

Now, all of the genuine substance of this is going to be over in about 6 hours - Ash will have finished coaching the Fiesta Bowl - and will be all RU all the time.... and hopefully the dialog can turn toward the future

I don't support your argument, but I will concede that I witnessed a few Rutgers games last year and didn't know what the hell I was watching.

all this urban/osu love and honor overlooks how dishonorable urban was himself, he bailed on florida while lying about the reasons, but now he is king honor, cut me a break, google urban meyer leaves florida

Kolezar-
Part of his job is to make this game important, especially to seniors. You refer to it as "some meaningless consolation game"
In reality, it's a NYD major game against one of the most prestigious schools in the country.
This is their game, in a vacuum it's the most important game of the season for them.
In our case I think we need a coach who doesn't run out on his former team because the game isn't for the National Championship

since you mention the seniors, I would say there most meaningful games are the rivalry games, in this case the michigan and michigan state games, these are the games with the most meaning in their senior year, frankly in any year, unless playing for the NC. for most seniors, they are hoping to put something on tape today for the next level. today's game is not as important as the michigan or michigan state game, I think those seniors would agree

All the yip yapping on this subject is meaningless. Our AD and President knew before they hire Ash that he would remain at OSU through the bowl game. Despite that they hired him because they thought he was the BEST candidate for the position. Case closed. If they wanted someone to start immediately they would have hired someone who was available to do so. Does anyone really want us to hire someone who is thought to be the second or third or fourth best guy so that he can be here sooner?

who sez he was the best guy, he may have been the most affordable

I think you're clueless and out of touch, for every player in that room, today is the most important game of the season. You come from the perspective of a beat writter who never played a sport in his life

stick to baseball, you don't know me or my background and I know far more about this sport than you want to believe and don't need to put down others to elevate myself, like you do

May be different in college..but I'll tell u 100% as a senior in HS..my final game was much more important than our annual rivalry game.

Elevating myself? never said a word about me, I just know how high level athletes think.
The very LAST thing any kid is thinking about is putting himself on tape, give us a break with that talking head crap.
They're playing for pride and their brothers standing next to them.

rivalry is everything in college, bad coaches can keep their jobs by beating rivals

in nj, I think most players would say their thanksgiving game was the most significant game, unless in the playoffs

every athlete plays for pride, but unfortunately not every athlete plays for their teammates, just reality

Here's your quote "most seniors are just hoping to put something on tape today for the next level"
"Today's game is not as important as Mich St or Michigan, I think the seniors would agree"

You gonna go with that and not call yourself completely and utterly ignorant to what the OSU kids are feeling going into their final college game?

absolutely, the michigan game and this years michigan state game had more meaning to the seniors than playing in one of "the other 40+ bowl games", especially coming off of a NC game last year. look at FSU and how flat they played and other teams as well, the NC games have meaning to them, not playing in one of the other 40+

since you still feel the need to put others down, maybe you will listen to the osu players themselves,

"When I first came in I told my dad, that would be really really cool to leave here like that," senior left tackle and captain Taylor Decker. "I've seen videos of former players here in the NFL and that'll be a point of trash talk for them if they didn't win four pairs of Gold Pants."

"That would be another unbelievable accomplishment if our senior class could finish this up," senior defensive tackle Tommy Schutt said. "That's something not very many people who have played at Ohio State can say. Another thing that would make our careers even better would be to have a sweep against them.

"My four years here, the rivalry transcends that, but for me to be able to say our class did our part in winning four of those games, I think that would be huge, I think that would be everything," Decker said.

These seniors could be the first to win a title and be on the field for four straight Michigan wins - the best of both worlds. "That's something to brag about, something you can always talk about, something people around here through all of eras of Ohio State football can really appreciate," Perry said of that potential 4-0 mark. "National championships come around every so often, but you play that team every year."

So is it your assumption and/or assertion is that every beat writer (one T) in the country never played a sport in his or her life?

Saying exactly what they are thinking in context and in the moment..
Where are the quotes from two days ago or yesterday about the importance of this bowl game and what it means to them?
