In football coaches are always saying, who ever gives us the best chance to win will play. Why does that not apply here?

He would listen to "any school" that is interested in him. Go outside the box.

Write a new part to this book, not just a chapter in the same 1st part.

I just don't see him leaving Georgia. I think he will always stay at Georgia in some capacity.
very true im hearing that he may not want to be a HC and may want to be a coordinator. I could honestly see him taking this year off from football. But i would still like to see us make a run at least.

What was he making at Georgia? I am guessing $3-4M. He would probably take less to be a HC again, certainly less to be an OC. But at age 55, he has more than enough to be very choosy about his next move.

I am guessing that he will entertain offers but decides to cement his legacy at Georgia by filling some fundraising role at Georgia.

He's steady talked to Maryland and good chance Miami. He's not staying in Georgia. Trust me.

He wants to coach again. The story in this morning's paper said he expects to have many contacts in the next 24 to 48 hours. Empty nester, 55 so time to make another good run as head coach at another school. No way he retires, and I would be shocked if he stays on at UGA as an assistant.

We have to at least reach out and have the conversation with him.

AT LEAST TALK TO MARK RICHT AND MAKE HIM SAY NO!!!!!!!
------
This seems to be the home run hire for any program...... If RU wants him, seriously, we have to outbid everybody else out there, and not by a little....... He might choose a slightly less offer from a more respected program

If I were king I would put together a huge offer, hope he takes it.... Ignore the howling from the newspapers, the student body, the RU 100, etc, like you are deaf....and when the serious winning begins the administration is now genius....

What ever the max revenue we could get out of the stadium should be achieved

Georgia is one of the most storied college football programs in the country with an enormous and passionate fanbase that donates & fills their stadium every week no matter the opponent or weather.

With those resources he mostly fell short of Georgia football standards and expectations.

Think about that.

Exactly. You need to make the big "public" show of going after Mark Richt, if for no other reason than to convince donors and fans that you're serious about being a player at this level of college football. He'd probably say no, but to just be in the conversation is worth the effort. This isn't USC or Notre Dame where losing out on the home run hire hurts you.

He averaged about 8.5-3.5 for his 15 years and never finished a regular season below .500. He went 9-5 in bowl games (2-1 in the Sugar, 3-0 in the Capital One, 1-0 in the Chick-Fil-a, all high level bowl).

It is a valid criticism that he didn't win the SEC East enough, but I think time will show the Georgia fans that their expectations of what the ceiling should be cost them a coach that gave them a level of consistent success they might have trouble matching.

I don't get why anyone would think Rutgers wouldn't contact his agent. Every major program with an opening and probably some who have a coach will.

The problem is there'd have to be interest on his side. Say what you want but the reality is someone like him will have a lot of options.

Ok... And Georgia fans were upset anytime Richt suspended players for issues that other schools would laughed at. And he went up against teams like Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee every year. He has instant credibility, more than anyone else on Rutgers list of candidates. What NJ recruit will turn him down?

Oh, I'm sure they've contacted his agent. But the trick is to sell him to the point that he'd agree to an interview. I honestly don't think the goal is to hire Mark Richt (although that would be great) but to at least convince people that a high-profile coach not named Greg Schiano might seriously consider coming here.

And BTW, I may be wrong but Mark Richt would probably be the only coach on this list who Rutgers season ticket holder would gladly pay an extra $10-20 a ticket to help pay for his salary.

Just $3-$5 more per ticket would pay for him.

He is the only true homerun hire that would be not only a MASSIVE upgrade from flood but also a HUGE upgrade from GS.

Coaching wise, it would put Rutgers in the same boat as OSU, UM, MSU. They would still have a huge lead on us, but we would actually have a chance to start to catch up or at least move above everyone else in the Big Ten.

Think about that. The fact that he would never let players get away with the nonsense that flood did and this is a non brainer. His southern charm would win over parents and reporters and being one of the top HC in the SEC would get all of the 4 and 5 star players to legit take us seriously.

Of course they'd try or wouldn't be doing their jobs. To be fair, we don't know they haven't.

My uninformed opinion is someone out there (Maryland?) will throw f u money at him. No matter how much RU is willing to spend, it'll never approach that level. I don't fault RU for that if it is the way it goes down.

I seem to remember he arrived originally in Ga late at night to a chorus of boo's from unhappy with the hire fans some few yrs ago...what changed since his firing....Ga hasn't been nearly as exciting under his tenure as far as i can see since NJ's own Knowshon Moreno played there.

I don't think it would happen but at least make a pitch. This would give the program massive credibility no more SI, ESPN put downs. I moved to Sc and saw what Spurrier did for USCE the culture changed and applications went up immensely as did the qualifications to attend all directly related to football. It is sad the football drives universities but this is the reality we live in. Spend some money now because aren't we all striving for greatness. Spend it on a known entity and off we go!!!!

THIS.
I would pay $20 per seat/game and gladly! (Just $10/seat/game = 3.5 million)

Just get me a headline saying Rutgers is in contact with Richt. Heck, I would settle for "Richt asks Rutgers AD to stop calling". I want to see some proof they are trying. Not just zero chatter followed by the hire of Al Golden.

That wouldn't be very professional.

For example Maryland is going to look stupid if they can't get him now since they have a lot more donor money than us.

I don't see him staying at Georgia. Why would he publicly state that he's interested in coaching if he wants to stay with the Dawgs? I think he wants the Miami job because he grew up in Boca Raton and played QB at Miami.

He's still probably the best option out there at the moment.

However, you're correct. He hasn't killed it against top 25 teams, despite winning so consistently. So he's not quite the "10" people want him to be. And it's unclear what kind of recruiter he'd be in NJ, but he could probably bring in some kids from the south.

But he's still light years ahead of Cristobal or Golden. The more I think about it, the more I think we should make a play for Babers. A proven winner at lower levels. Let's see if he can keep the magic going.
