I sure would hope not. Act like you expected to win. It would demonstrate a high level of naivete among RU fans. Reminiscent of the late, great John Thompson remarking on RU fans storming the court after the Knights beat his Hoyas at the RAC; what are we ranked? They weren't.

Respectfully, some of you are reminding me of Duke and Virginia fans in the ACC, who were very particular about the requirements for field/court-storming (basically, never do it, it's beneath them). The kids will know if they should storm!

It's right up there with "Who should be our rival?" In my opinion, stuff like this should be organic, like it always has been...
Agreed the students know when and one already chimed in saying no it wouldn't be a field storming situation.

I brought up the players in the context of assessing celebrations in general as embarrassing. Why is it embarrassing for a fan to celebrate something that isn’t a big deal for some other teams but fine for a player to celebrate it? The same rational should apply in measuring patheticness (which is what folks seem to be classifying this as).

Winning the Michigan State game did not achieve a milestone of any kind. It was a great come from behind win, but usually storm reactions follow achievements that fans haven’t seen happen for a while from a team. As said - I think we would’ve stormed if that was win number 6. No way to know for sure obviously but geez. I think it’s pathetic to criticize the idea that fans might not be able to contain their excitement about something they’ve waited a long time for. Again - so what?
Neither will this.

Will rutgers fans storm the field if we beat Washington ?
Please note, this is a simple yes or no question on whether rutgers fans storm the field or not . Do not pollute this thread with thoughts on whether or not it’s appropriate to storm the field. Just simply stick to the question, whether we storm or not.

I vote yes. Biggest game here in a decade. Night game against last year’s finalist . Fans will storm if we win!
No.

How many 4-0 starts do you think we’ve had in our history? There was 2012. Before that 2006. You’d have to go back to like 1980 before that. Would be the 3rd 4-0 start in over 40 years.
It’s September. Usually it’s three easy ones and a probable conference game for the fourth. While it hasn’t happened often, a 4-0 start shouldn’t be a reach or something to go crazy over.

Did we do it in 2012? 2006? 1980?

This isn’t a “big” game. Important, sure, but every conference game when you’re a good team is important.

This is your run of the mill tough big ten game, no more no less. It’s big time football. But in no way is it “bigger” than any other conference game.

I sure hope we don’t rush the field after we win. Take care of business and move on..

I don’t know about 1980. Before my time. In the other 2 seasons, the home games other than the UofL game would’ve been major upsets for us to not win (3 win UConn teams - basically like beating Akron). I don’t care what the spread says - this is a pick em game and would be a huge win for us if we can pull it off.

They are arguing like those disagreeing are doing so counter to the poll results. Yet it's "NO" in a landslide.
Not arguing. Just was wondering what a big game meant for you and you are saying it’s got to be against a top 12 team.

Last year against OSU and PSU, they were ranked #1 and #12 when we played them.
Then by that logic we have had lots of big games against ranked opponents over the years. Even 78-0 against a ranked Michigan squad qualifies under your criteria as a big game .
But 3-0 Rutgers against 3-1 Washington doesn’t qualify as a big game ?

Just want to make sure that I have all the rules down as I would not want other fanbases to make fun of us. Let’s see:
1. All fans need to be in their seats cheering properly before the fireworks and team entrance.
2. No storming the field even if we win with a 90 yard walk-off comeback touchdown.

Is this correct? Because I don’t want to be the one that gets us made fun of. That would be awful.

Penn state and Michigan in 2022.

Again, very easy to do the research. A big game to me is vs a top 25 opponent, vs a perceived rival, or one when we are trying for the 6th win to be bowl eligible.
the 78-0 thrashing by Michigan against ash was a big game by this logic since Michigan was ranked

But tomorrow’s game featuring the best Rutgers team in a decade vs. last years runner up in a legit sold out stadium, in primetime, on network national TV , is not a big game???
Interesting logic

I think most folks are losing sight of the big picture reality here. Perhaps, Vegas too.

Washington had the ball at the Wazzu 1 yard line with one minute left in that game - a game where they committed 16 penalties. If they punch it in there and go on to dominate NW the next week they would be ranked right now and favored tomorrow. One single play is basically the difference between us being favored against an unranked team and getting a crack at upsetting the ranked national runners up on our home floor.

What you describe in the 2nd paragraph is great..and all true. But this is big ten football and what big ten football should be..sold out, great matchup, on national tv. Doesn’t mean every big ten game is “big”…just the run of the mill big ten game that hopefully Rutgers will get used to with more success

The answer is yes and no.
I’m not reading this entire thread, but Plum isn’t taking into account how the game is won or lost.
No one is storming the field if we’re winning 21-0 at half and manhandle them in the 2nd half.
Storming the field is a possibility if we block a punt down 6 and score with no time on the clock
Yeah- you and I had same first thought. I see you didn't read the thread but I agree- if we end up winning a 3 score game- it is just a game and the final never in doubt- nothing to get in a frenzy about. But, if it is a final drive win or we came from behind and a late TD makes it a 2 score- our 50k fans will be in a crazy frenzy and most likely storm and would be well deserved.

And as much as it can be dangerous, in a way for players- you know as much as I do- it is really cool as a player to see your fans so damn ass excited. And I know in 06- our players who had family and friends running up to them on the field- really appreciated it. I know our son not only found it exciting but also thought it cool to have his family in the middle of the playing field all together with him enjoying the win and moment with him

All he’s saying is that’s not our reality right now. It’s for this reason that this game hypothetically meets the criteria for a storm possibility depending on how it goes down. Stadium is going to be packed with excitement and great atmosphere. UofL was the only opportunity for that in the other undefeated starts like this. We’re not playing a bad UConn or Temple team. Washington is a good team.

Looks like it is going to be just me and you on the field. Sure hope they don't use tasers on us like in Cincinnati!!!

This is legendary stupidity trying to reference a blow out that RU was on the wrong end of.

Is this the same UW team as last year?
Is UW ranked?

The two of you are acting like Al by continuing to argue a bad position and trying to wear people down with never ending nonsense posts.

It seems his definition of a big game is affected by the outcome of the game? Weird

You know you can’t use the outcome to justify if something was a big game after the fact, right?

There would have 100% been a stormed field if 2-3 Rutgers beat #2 5-0 Michigan in 2016.

The pregame poll would have been 100% “yes” storm the field if we beat Michigan in that game.
Not even close.

Pretty sure our students/fans stormed the field when we beat Syracuse in 2003? For our first conference win in forever.
I rushed down the aisle to the railing to join in but I was told “you’re too old” by the yellow-jacket working there, lol.

Syracuse was a “perceived rival” so that was a big game

No it's not! We aren't playing last years Washington team. We are playing a completely different team. An unranked team that isn't close to last years team. Many different players including the QB and the entire coaching staff. The stupidity of your logic (and others) is ridiculous.

As long as they don’t tear anything up and nobody acts like an idiot, let the kids enjoy the moment.

Ohh bus !! I got news for you. . You have to realize it’s not possible to play last years, team this year! Not just Washington ! Goes for other opponents too ! Just not possible my friend! Unless you got the white bus Time Machine.

The best was one guy in my section storm the field after we beat MSU last year. Security didn’t stop him because they also left after the 3rd Q.

Our team was terrible .Our coach was terribile. I don’t think anyone went into that game calling it a “big” game.

It's you that keep bringing up last years team which means nothing. I see why you didn't want any discussion on this because as always you've proved Plum is dumb again.
