I can't believe we are at the point right now with this wrestling program, where we can basically pick and choose from very good to great wrestlers. In a couple of years,I am certain we can have "elite" wrestlers knocking at our door,by the handful. The Jersey crowd can be so critical, but at the same time so protective and supportive of this program.I use too call my parents 2 times on a pay phone too see if they where coming too my RU match.Along with maybe 40 other parents and fans.I use too watch Sacchi shake his head when he walked into the gymnasium like "Man,we really suck".I'd go "coach..standing room only,,huh?".He would just walk away in his plaid or checkered suit jacket..if he even wanted too dress up..lol.

@wngarbarini are we expecting to lose Donny at some point/does he have aspirations of running his own program? By all accounts he loves being back in NJ and wanted to be a part of this so hopefully he's here a long time.

I am not one to predict what individuals will do job-wise or career-wise but Donny is well treated here and is treated more like a co-head coach than an assistant. Therefore, the only thing missing from the RU job is the actual title. I do not know how Donny's level of importance on that. Donny loves the Big Ten and loves living in my Westfield and having his family around, including his dad. His two young girls are darling kids and love it here and wife Robin is a great gal and supportive wife. Would he leave for another Big Ten job as HC? It would mean a move somewhere which I know is not in Robin's or Donny's interest level now. Could he leave for a HC job in a local commute in a non Big Ten capacity? Maybe but that means a Columbia, Rider, Lehigh (a stretch commute)? He is just starting to make an impact here so what he wants to achieve is nowhere near finished. As you see he is being recognized by the media and RU staff so he is not being overlooked for his contribution. With all that being said, if you held a gun to my head I say he is here at least a few more years. He is a Jersey boy through and through and proving it!

I don't know if anyone saw it but RU finished #10 in the nation on the coaches poll behind Lehigh at # 9? Please answer me how that is possible?

ask the coaches who voted...2 pts out of 9th..But still in the top 10 is phenomenal...

Bill,I might of heard wrong, but I have some pretty reliable sources next too the program.I heard that Scott was eventually going too be moved into a more lucrative administrative position down the road, and Donny was going too take over.Is there any truth too that rumor. Also, why hasn;t Leo ever moved up to associate head coach.I mean, the guy has endured so much abuse on this forum, and others,he should be crowned a prince for all the bullshit he's been through. Is it that he has a full time job and this supplimental? Sorry too be bold with the questions, just when I hear from some serious hitters in RU athletics about these little innuendo's it pushes me too ask the closest member of the program on here, which is you.I would think it would be in Donny's worst interest too make a move right now.He would start getting a reputation like Chris Bono or Sammie Henson as "jump shipper",for lack of terminology.

So someone told you that Goodale's succession plan is to be a senior associate AD? Or was it some sort of head coach emeritus, which maybe allows him to liase with the athletics dept, attend practices & recruit, like Pat Summit at Tennessee women's basketball?

Leo..it was pretty much that.Apparently he would become some kind of oversee'r of the program, but also involved in other facets of RU athletics.Kind of sounded like a made up position,or at least a position that was created for him,so they can keep both coaches ( Donny and Goodale).Let me be frank though, even though these guys are close too the program, they had quite a few drinks with me,so who knows if it was shit talking or wishful thinking.I would think it would make no sense too do that because Goodale's time would be comprimised with other programs

Seems reasonable, except Goodale has a Bachelor's from Clarion? Wouldn't Goodale need a graduate degree?

Coach Leo is full time here and Scott's great friend. He is happy and content doing what he is doing. I have never discussed career paths with Scott. I have no clue about that type of role. He is a young, passionate guy who loves being in the front line and action.

Could it be that some voters thought that missing guys at 149,157and 174 influenced the result? Not trying to take anything away from the accomplishment but that could be the thought process. Assume they would have also considered giraldo not going at 133.

This seems like fan speculation stuff. I would be extraordinarily surprised if Goodale ceased to be the HC.
I agree 110%,but someone told these guys this, and these friends of mine are not your "typical fans",so there has got to be some truth too it.Maybe it was administration rolling off ideas off the top of their head. But something was said for them to bring this up,and show concern.

Not that I think it matters, because finishing in the top 10 is a huge accomplishment, but they are behind Lehigh for the same reasons NC State is one spot above Va Tech(a week after Va Tech beat them). Voters looked at the entire season. It is really splitting hairs, Lehigh beat Oklahoma and Minnesota and lost to Nebraska so there are all sorts of variations on how the votes could have gone.

Let's finish the season with strong performances at the Big 10s and NCAAs. If we can walk away with 2 AAs this year it would be huge for recruiting. An NCAA finalist would be incredible! I would like to see us land a top 25 recruit from out of state this year. I think after our top 10 ranking blue chippers will take notice and consider RU. My outlook on this program is looking better everyday!

2 AA's might be considered a disappointment, Ash and Perrotti should be locks imo. Hoping for Billy Smith and I wouldn't rule out a 2014 Perrotti like run from Lewis or Gravina.

Lehigh being ahead of us is BS. We even beat them without Giraldo wrestling at 133. Also, we lost to Minn without Lewis there (why wasn't he there, by the way?), and we all know we would have won had he wrestled. I know 10 is great, but we should be 9 ahead of Lehigh. Otherwise, why do we have these national matches?

Not Sure I would consider Perrotti a lock. I would consider him a lock for round of 12, but you never know who you will have to face to become an all American in the blood round (If Jack/Mecate gets knocked off and Ashnault had to face him in the round of 12....he may have a problem with AA)

Getting 2 AA's in one tournament would be huge in my opinion.
Getting 4 wrestlers into the blood round would also be huge (going 2 for 4 would be great).
I think 1 year (in my limited time following RU Wrestling) we had 2 wrestlers in the blood rounds (Winston & Mason?). I don't recall having 3 or more wrestlers with a chance to AA in the same year.

if "lock" means over 99% chance then I don't think RU has any locks to AA. Ashnault is very likely to AA and Perrotti has a very good chance but I wouldn't call them locks. every year multiple highly seeded guys don't find the podium for one reason or another.

2 AA's this year would be phenomenal.

Top 2 guys are pretty much 'locks', guys 4-8 (Ash, AP) have a decent shot. 10-20 (Lewis, Smith, Gravina) are 'in the mix'.

Cmon, it is not BS. And everyone has guys out of the lineup during dual meets. I would probably put RU 9 and Lehigh 10 but I can see it the other way also. They beat two teams we lost to and we beat them and Nebraska(who beat Lehigh). The Wisconsin loss sure did not help RU either in the polls

Lehigh wrestled minus 3 starters...

I will say this. I was very impressed by the way Lehigh wrestled PSU. They were in shape and scrappy and weren't simply showing up for the paycheck.
