I'm done trying to figure out the B1G and the NCAA. They can't seem to follow their own rules with any consistency. It's a free for all of randomness.

Matter..you should have learned from the whole Suriano saga..there are no rules..IMO the NCAA trying to do the right thing. I don't think the Suriano thing was the right ruling (thought he should sit a year and then wrestle). As far as the Gravina..I'm all for giving injured kids a chance to compete if the kid lost a couple years due to injury.

The issue I have with the Suriano ruling is that this leaves the door wide open for the big schools to pillage smaller schools if there is no incentive not to.

You have to remember this about NCAA rules per Jerry Tarkanian former UNLV BB Coach, "If NCAA gets mad at UCLA for breaking a rule, they punish Long Beach State".

I know some of the guys were talking about Joey Heilmann and I saw that he committed to UNC yesterday. Sorry if this was already posted.

Suriano ever wrestle Piccanino?

Oy. Very sore subject. :( Yes, in the biggest dual of last season. And, apparently, the beginning of the end of Suriano's stay in State College. It's funny, if Suriano doesn't get hurt in that match and goes on to place high on the podium or win 125, it seems likely he would still be at Penn State - at least according to what has been said (of which I believe very little).

Cruz tried to force a cradle in the match (one of those where you are sitting there saying "noooooo" as the wrestler does it), got reversed and put to his back. Other than that, I think the Ok State wrestler got two escapes.

NWCA classic had Princeton, Rider, Lehigh, Penn, Penn State, Maryland but no RU?

Also see no RU at MSG this year?

What gives?

For the record, there's zero chance I want our top guys wrestling in this when we have a match the day before. And we had a couple reps last year.

Who among the NWCA wrestlers do you believe should have been replaced by an RU wrestler?

Suriano and/or Lewis could have been in there. Or maybe fit someone else in as an additional "showcase" bout. The Maryland 285 was there and he wrestled the day before. Regardless, it would have been nice to see RU represented, with Princeton hosting I am sure something could have been worked out.

It looks like Grapple at the Garden is fading - fewer teams, not in the big arena this year, RU should support it.

Picc replaced by Nick
Pantaleo replaced by Lewis

With the outdoor match at Rutgers I’m glad they didn’t participate. Lewis just won the u-23 Freestyle tournament and Suriano with his first match back. He also had that infection in his knee and had too be cautious.

I agree if schedules fit I would’ve loved to see Lewis and Suriano kick some ass! I think both guys would’ve beat either guy in there weight class.

Would have loved to see Lewis-Clagon..all Toms River showdown. Suriano would have gotten that major he just missed last year on Cruz..and would have like to see him go a whole match with Picc. That being said, I'm not questioning the coaches decision of who goes..was just answering Old Cabbages question

I doubt many fans would've complained if Suriano or Lewis were in the All-Star instead of Pich or Pantaleo but the M.O. for this event is usually to invite the highest returning AAs at each weight. Neither Suriano nor Lewis have made the podium.

Richie and Ashnualt were both in the event last year, so it's not like the NWCA has been avoiding Rutgers wrestlers. I personally think it was nice that the team had everyone in town for Suriano's debut at High Point. Can't be everywhere.

Not sure what's up with the Grapple at the Garden. I went in 2014 when Dake had a greco match against Julfalakyan and Dlagnev beat Gatsalov. Was an awesome event but crowd was sparse. they may not be able to make the math work for the main arena and were forced to downsize. no idea for sure but I'm guessing the problem is not schools deciding not to support the event.

The Maryland 285 Hemida went both days.

I was told this about the Grapple at the Garden - NYC/MSG was shot down in its bid for future NCAA championships because of too much complaining from a certain black and yellow fan base. The cutback on the GatG was a response to the unsuccessful bid.

you've told this MSG story many times before. Its very lame and obviously false.

I don't know. I was told this by a coach whose team was at the last few GatGs back in the summer. I was also told the event was going to scaled way back this year. The second thing obviously happened, so I don't have reason to think the first one was spurious. If you know something different, share.

Get ready for another NCAA ruling to go in favor of Rutgers(if needed). RU on a roll.
You might just have sent matter over the edge. He hates when things go RU's way. Wait for it.:eyes: Here he comes to tell us how RU is his second favorite team

Not true. Rutgers is not my second favorite team. Ashnault could get one if he doesn't wrestle this year. He would seem to eligible.

I just wish the Journyman Duels vs Oklahoma & Virginia was on Sunday and not Saturday the same exact time as the Football game. ugh. lol

For those following NJ HS wrestlers in their college careers, Anthony Cassar from Montgomery wrestled his first match for Penn State last night. He defeated Rocco Caywood from Army (decent 197 guy) 10-3. First match back after missing two seasons due to a shoulder injury and he beat out Matt McCutcheon who was ranked #4 preseason to get the spot. The Centre Daily Times did a small feature on him also. http://www.centredaily.com/sports/college/penn-state-university/psu-wrestling/article183821131.html

Wait, McCutcheon got beat out? Damn.

Not a huge shock to me. He's been hobbled by injuries the last few years and Cassar is good. As most here probably know, Cassar went from not qualifying for states until his senior year to being an undefeated state champ. Then made the junior world team after his redshirt freshman year, where he got the shoulder injury that put him on the shelf the last two years. He looked good last night - super quick for a 197.
