OT: WOW… Pete Rose has died at the age of 83

Rose served 5 months for tax evasion
>Tarnished and remorseful baseball legend Pete Rose was sentenced Thursday to five months in prison, three months in a halfway house, 1,000 hours of community service and a $50,000 fine for income tax evasion.<

I don't believe it was for not reporting gambling winnings, but for income derived from card show appearances and sale of sports memorabilia he profited from
It wouldn't surprise me. I met him once ... he was sitting at a table signing autographs outside a sports memorabilia shop inside the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas. This would have been in 2001 or 2002. Anyways, there wasn't a crowd or anything - it was just one fan/customer at the table and Pete sitting behind it. The area of was pretty empty. So I realize it is Pete Rose and I pull out my camera to take a photo and he shouted something like, "You can't take any photos. If you want a photo with me you have to pay for it." I wasn't even close to them, I was probably thirty or forty feet away. I snapped the photo anyway (it wasn't a posed photo, it was just him sitting at a table yelling at me while he signed someone else's baseball). Then I found my parents elsewhere in the hotel and told that that I had just met Pete Rose and he was an asshole.

Still, even though he's a bad person, he's got more hits than anyone else and is a first ballot hall of famer.

Losing Cliff cost us the NCAA Tournament

The main concern with Lathan is that it appears he can't shoot (for now?)
1/8 from 3 (13%)
6/34 from outside the paint/inside the 3pt line (17%)

This leads to a couple issues for next year:

1. He can't be moved out of the post (PF/Wing) because he isn't a scoring or playmaking threat.
He's a non threat away from the basket.

2. If he's your center, then he isn't the defensive presence it appears HC Pike needs for his defense (why can't a defensive mind like Pike adjust if needed?).

3. If a better defensive center is brought in, wouldn't that player likely start and play most minutes? Likely can't play them together - see #1.

Either HC Pike needs to figure out a defensive scheme that accommodates Lathan or Lathan will primarily be a bench player because of defensive limitations.

OT: NY Rangers 2024-2025 Thread

Not obsessed with jack. Just pointing out the devs horses are all very small and that doesn't work come playoff time. Jack, nico and bratt. Not one of them weighs more than 175. Jack and bratt around 160-165

You’re last dozen posts here were strictly about Jack and no mention of Bratt or Nico.

We know they’re small. We’ve known that for years. Not really brining much to the conversation just pointing out known facts.

And to continue to say size = playoff success is inaccurate, Brad Marchand, Patrick Kane, Jonathan marchessault. Just 3 players off the top of my head with incredible playoff success and undersized. And Jack, though much smaller sample size has better ppg numbers in the playoffs than any of them

OT: 30 years and 30,000+ posts. Question for the board on OUR history here.

We have had this discussion several times over the years

Many of us go back a long way, before the 109 site
I seem to remember an aol site that wad not restricted to any one fan base, we had many Seton Hall fans on it also
And even that was probably not the first

As far as this site in its current form, I believe I am the longest tenured still here
beginning June 3rd 2001

The same being true on the scout board

Its been,fun

OT: New ACC Deal To Reward Clemson and FSU?

It's the best case scenario for FSU and Clemson that was realistic, they were never going to the BIG or SEC, no agreements or done deals, etc now with the GOR.

While this gets FSU and Clemson more money, it's not nearly close enough to close the cap, looks like the max out is 15 mil more if they get back to winning and drawing ratings, but that isn't a given just how bad FSU was last year and Clemson not nearly close to as elite as they have been.

The other win that is most interesting is the reduced exit fees by 2030 when the SEC, BIG, and BIG 12 tv contracts are set to expire.

I think the top ACC teams who have potential landing spots at 2030 are banking on this model to keep the gap close enough by the time they can grab a chair because the current model would just be lights out for any ACC program.

I think he plead guilty to some form of tax evasion (presumably not reporting gambling winnings as income). He spent a couple months in prison in the early 1990s.

OT: New ACC Deal To Reward Clemson and FSU?

Looks like Clemson and FSU got most of what they wanted and the lesser programs agreed because they know if the ACC lost them , power conference status might be lost and they'd suffer more financially then
giving up some shared revenue now would..
North Carolina and Miami will benefit, but I bet after capitulating to FSU and Clemson to keep those programs in the fold Miami & North Carolina won't be as loyal to the ACC and would sue to leave if the B1G or SEC let them know , through a trusted 3rd party , there was a spot available for them if they wanted to become a member.
In my opinion this is a short term solution and will be an incentive to leave for the programs that might be able to get a B1G/SEC membership when those conferences decide the time is right to expand.
UNC is the snake in the grass, two faced lying sack of shit
Dirty school that is responsible for most of the ACC's mishaps that's also actively looking to get out of the conference

OT: New ACC Deal To Reward Clemson and FSU?

So basically now the other schools are not only hostage to ND but to FSU and Clemson?

Thank god the ACC did not want us....rearranging the seats on the Titanic and making everyone else poorer in the process
Not really
If what's being talked about is true, there's opportunities for everyone to make money based on winning
The ratings aspect should be an easy metric for the top schools though

OT: Penn State maybe not so BIG in the future.

I will give Pittsburgh that it's cool for a small city, the food is good, the views/hilliness are interesting and the COL is very low relative to most if not all other major US cities.

I did not feel unsafe once there.

I would feel safer there than Philly.
Agree 100 %
The most underrated east coast city IMO (if you consider it EC, some consider it Midwest)

Oakland is a cool neighborhood, especially to go to school in (Pitt)
Only downfall is no on campus stadium (wish they would have redone the old Pitt Stadium) so taking busses to Heinz isn't ideal

OT: New RU President By April 25

Good article, but I really take exception to this:

Bullshit. He started in April of 2012, the announcement of our entrance occurred in November, so it was well underway before he came upon the scene. Besides, his sole focus when he initially came in was merging the medical school into the university
Going by this article and my memory I'd say you hit the nail on the head
>According to Delany, talks between Rutgers and the Big Ten have been ongoing for three to four years, and the league's addition of the Penn St. Nittany Lions in '93 helped begin the process of moving to the Mid-Atlantic.<

OT: WOW… Pete Rose has died at the age of 83

Don’t know why people want to put in a degenerate gambler into the Hall of Fame when the clear rule of gambling on the sport was always communicated.

I also don’t understand why this president would focus on “pardoning” Rose when he was never convicted of federal crimes. You would think there are other big problems to work on in the first month in office- like the cost of groceries and a crumbling economy.
I want to put him in the Hall of Fame because he has more hits than anyone else.

And he was convicted of federal crimes.

Number 2 - my question is- was Rose actually convicted of a crime in regard to his gambling?
Number 3 - don’t get me started on the kneeling. Just another grand stand on part of the political groups to change the narrative to fit agendas that had nothing to do with what was actually being protested.

Losing Cliff cost us the NCAA Tournament

Michigan ate our lunch inside all game long as Goldin was unsolicited, and ended up with 22 points. Their rebounding edge was 38-27. Just a common theme for this season. Cliffs toughness and leadership is dearly missed.

Look at all our close losses and the difference is Cliffs impact.
Yes cliff left and I do agree it hurt us, but there were quite a few games last year that Cliff got torched by the other teams center and I am not just talking about Edey - he could not defend Reese, Crowl and Payne both had great games against him also. He was a great shot blocker, but not a good all around defender. Lathan is a true freshman and we keep comparing him to a 5th year player.

Big Board update

#FakeNews

I've heard on good authority (this board) that Ace and Dylan have had their draft prospects continuously drop over the course of the season.

CBB fans are clearly more tuned in than professionals who get paid to talk to teams and have actual insight into player draft evaluation and ranking.

Also - why is Flagg still there? Didn't he read the out context Flagg quote about returning for a 2nd year that some CBB fans completely misunderstood?
