Martini

I actually genuinely felt bad for him today. The effort was there. The defense and rebounding was decent. But the shooting was so bad I couldn't believe it. They weren't even guarding him.
Not really sure how he got dubbed a shooter on this team. Hes not. He sometimes will hit a wide open one where his feet are planted but can’t hit in transition, shoot off the dribble, shoot off of screens, shoot with a hand in his face. To be a good shooter you have to be able to do those things effectively and he can’t.

RAPID REACTION — Michigan State

MSU is a very good team.

I thought we had a lot of low percentage layups/drives. I didn't see a lot of missed bunnies.

You play PJ but the guy doesn't get any looks? Odd. He shouldn't be on the court if he is not getting at least 4-5 shots.

We had a good number of open 3's, but we're were ice cold.

Martini just seems so reluctant to shoot. He rarely seems ready or in a good position. He had so many open looks that he had no choice but to shoot. Same thing with PJ. 3 point shooters have to hunt for shots.
Martini was chucking at will today firing a couple deeper 3's too

Derkack Ace Grant 8/16 from 3

Everyone else 1/14

30 three point attempts, Hayes 0 attempts

Pikiell’s Post Game Comments

When asked if he was surprised or disappointed at the team’s .500 record at this point in the year after all of the expectations heading into the season, Pike immediately jumps to team GPA and making the tournament 3 years ago to defend himself. He also brought up the NIT year as if that wasn’t a total disaster of a season.

This program is completely doomed going forward if our administration and fan base allows him to underperform and make the same mistakes over and over again while pointing to past success to excuse it.

Crackers
I had dinner last night at the Rutgers Club with your teammate Tim Grifa, Bob Wymbs and Scott Becker(who took your place when you graduated. At the other table was Tim Hennessy, Tom O’Rourke and Tim Anderson, all 1980’s guys. They told me stories about you. Grifa was a frosh when you were a senior. He wrestled 142 when you wrestled 150. You dropped down to 142 for the EIWA and bumped him from the lineup. The 158 guy dropped to 150 so Grifa sat the bench. Great night reminiscing.
So what the hell happened to him because he doesn't act or talk like someone who deserves respect ...disrespecting kids who wrestled here with class ...challenging parents to fights. Numerous conflicts in this forum where he acts like a total ass...I believe he is who you say he is but he has totally disrespected RU coaches and numerous alumni for years ...he was banned 3 times for a reason ...now says we are getting 4 PSU studs and 2 Iowa Suriano types and there is no way I believe you think that any of his fantasy is true. You see the way he responds to critics ...that's not the way champions talk ..

Was this season really ever “promising?”

Lots of hype - sure - but I could tell after the first week of games - team was severely overrated. So never brought into the hype.

Was the pre-season hype valid? Maybe - I mean 2 lottery players on a team is reason for optimism.

But I’ve been cautiously optimistic all fall - relying on 2 freshman to lead and carry your team - no matter how good they are, is dangerous.

To me - it’s much easier to accept we’re not good - cause I accepted that after week 1.

Pikell Just Sucks

Ok ..we agree.

The solution - to me - is not relying on the portal as much and going back to what made him successful. This works / he’s beaten #1 teams with this approach in the past.

You want to adapt and stay new school with a different coach.

Two different approaches..both could work. But with pikes contract - I don’t think it’s wise to fire him
Greater emphasis on retention while being very strategic with your portal adds.

Sit Dylan

Stop acting like a tool. You have no effing clue how much pain he's in or how significant his injury is.
Come on man.

I’m not throwing shade at the kid. There’s guys who can go out and play injured and make it work and there’s guys who can’t. Dylan is not a guy who does well when he’s sick or dinged up.

He’s a great player but playing at less than 100% isn’t his thing.
