Stop taking portal kids and follow Purdue, Wisconsin & Sparty

Wisconsin uses the portal, what are you talking about?
They haven't taken 9 kids in 3 years, maybe I am wrong.

The last relevant portal kids was AJ Storr, who was there for 1 year and left for Kansas, where he's struggling at around 7PPG there.

Obviously every program adds a player or two via the portal, but unless that player is filling in a spot or a bench role, the bulk of the pieces have to be in place. Spencer was a rare situation with veterans all over the starting lineup and we still struggled because of the lack of bench players around those starters.

50 year fan. 1st game at barn as a kid in ‘74/5 and now…

You will get sucked back in when/if the program gets better. I gave up really caring during the waters era. Stopped going to as many games. Saw no way up in the BIG East. Still followed the train wrecks , but I got to miss so many fun moments at the RAC under hill, rice and Jordan!! Too bad.
Got sucked back in 2019 when pike was starting to build something.
If you’re gonna do it, do it. Don’t cry wolf
I said I will always have love for the team, but not to the degree I once was . New paradigm these days. Too transitory

Football Rutgers Football CBs coach Mark Orphey to Texas

That’s not the case at all do some homework on this.
Tell me what you know. I know he’s going back home and to one of the elite programs. I know if given the DC title he would have stayed. All I am saying is I knew he was gone as soon as Zach was announced as CoDC. It was obvious.

Not upset with Sparber but wha I have heard over the years was Orphey was a rising star and needed to be protected.

I truly feel this might be my last year as a super fan/ticket holder.

Sure, I’m from here (Franklin, I played with Roy), I’ll always have a spot in my rooting heart for them, but it’s a new paradigm now. Tonight showed me no passion. This team is a letdown, and a rebuild is eminent.

We are a looong way from the Dance in a BiiiiiiiiG conference. I don’t see this as a Top 10 B10 program anytime soon.

It hurts, for sure.
I can feel your pain. First game for me was in the barn as well. Cant remember the opponent. Went to Jadwyn for the disappointing loss to st Bonnie in the nit. Dad had season tickets when the rac opened and went to most games through probably 85/86. Many many memorable games for a team that was generally up and down under Tom young. Started going again when pike came in and glad I did. But Pike and the program is reminding me of tom young era now. Difficulty maintaining a roster and not elite enough to overcome it.

Sorry but this makes little to no sense.

If you can’t build through recruiting (see #1) then how exactly are you building out a competitive roster?
Do we keep the recruiting misses and just ride it out with Jalen Miller, Antonio Chol and Woolf?

I mean sure recruit better HS players.
But if that continues to not work then not sure the alternative than transfers.

There's a lot of things to clean up.

I don't get overwhelmed with one game and try to watch basics of the game and most of last night and last year is

A) 3 missing recruiting classes from 2021 to 2023.

B) Lack of wing defense and players to matchup with the pieces on Michigan State, Maryland, Iowa.

C) The portal is NOT the solution to RU and the portal is a subset of 2021, 2022 and 2023 recruiting misses.

Should RU be under .500.....?? No, but i can confirm with some level of confidence that MOST of our problems are portal related.....

Why?? Because as much as the staff has been poorly focused on the basics, you still have to have players across all 4 recruiting classes, to function as a program that is not Kentucky, Duke or Kansas.....

Purdue, Wisconsin, Michigan State, UCLA and even though Iowa lost their best player to a broken finger, are the prototypes to winning on a consistent level. Those programs have fewer portal additions and grow organically the bulk of their rosters.

The portal teams that don't have elite NIL funds (RU, Minnesota, Penn State, Nebraska are always going to be gamea behind.....the portal programs with lots of NIL, are going to be up and down, but very inconsistent (Indiana, Ohio State, Maryland, USC, Oregon, Washington).

Here are the last 9 portal additions since 2021

Hyatt
Spencer
J Will
Austin Williams
Noah Fernandes
PJ Hayes
Derkack
Acuff
Martini

This is just not a path of sustainable success, there's 2 out of 9 players considered as solid B1G players....(Hyatt and Spencer).

Build it through 2025 and 2026 and move on.....
Jeez . Most of those guys have been awful
Spencer and Hyatt are the top 2 and are rutgers graduates

Who is the 3rd best of that Group? Williams
? Sad

Pike Enthusiasts

A) he’s not holding anyone hostage.
B) he has proven to be a very good coach over the course of his career.
C) Rutgers owes him a lot of money
D) this season was a failed experiment. Given the chance to do it again everyone would still take Dylan and Ace.
E) NIL funds were not there for this year. Schiano didn’t have much either. Pike needs to embrace NIL (Like Greg did the past few
months) to get the right roster.
F) 2023-24 Pike got screwed with 2 starters leaving in May and the Mag Injury.
G) 2015-2018 he improved every year. 2019-2023 he built tournament quality teams. The past two seasons were unfortunate and a step backwards with departures and injuries. Progress isn’t linear.

He’s not leaving, unless he wants to.
Good summary . Pike needs to adapt or get fired in 2 years.

If Pike Had Balls

23 team was actually better than 22 but got unluckily left out while 22 was probably lucky to get in. That said this is two bad years in row
Yes , 2 terrible seasons.
Pike knows this . I expect him to cobble together a better , but still crappy team next year . Padding easy non conference wins and maybe getting in the NIT . That would be worst case scenario for this program as we wont fire him and stuck in nowhere land

Right so give you hope and tickle your mind with possibilities of sweat 16 and NCAA magic. Talks of remodeling the RAC. NBA prospects . The excitement through the roof.

Only to fail miserably at his job and have it all disappear in a historic season that will have us as the laughing stock all tournament long.

So is it worse to be awful or provide hope and then prove to all big time recruits not to go to Rutgers? The team next year will be at EJ levels, we lost all big recruits, corporate donors, remodel, and became a larger national embarrassment story.
lol. Gonna let you rant on. Agree to disagree.
