Stop taking portal kids and follow Purdue, Wisconsin & Sparty

Seems like you are advocating an old school approach and I am not sure that works in an environment where money talks and transferring out is so easy. You won’t get highly regarded HS kids without a bag and if we hit on developing 3 stars and below aren’t we still at risk of them leaving for a better financial situation?

The lack of depth on the roster this is a problem but to me the issues go much deeper.

Did you like our offensive possessions toward the end of the game? Even talented kids needs plays run for them to help get good looks rather giving them the ball and just say see what you can do. Our on ball defense was atrocious across the board and offered no resistance on drives to the basket. Atleast look like a well coached team.

OT: NJ Devils 2024-2025 Thread

Anyone watch the 4 nations face-off opener? What a great 3 hours of hockey - league definitely has something here. Very entertaining and players were engaged. Looking forward to us game tomorrow
Game 1 was great. Coming in there seemed to be a low level buzz from hockey fans, hopefully last nights game ramps that up, and hopefully tonights game ratchets it up even moreso.

Psyched to see Jack with Matthews.

Unfortunate no Quinn.

Pike: “100 percent on me” for Iowa loss- two thoughts

Pike's words:
- We're Young
- We're Close
- 100% on me

All of these things are true. And I'm not making excuses for Dylan and Ace, but they just aren't themselves. I don't know if it's illness, the grind of a longer season, or the disappointment setting in. But before yesterday, everything was still on the table. For them to look and play like that was so disappointing. Congratulations to Iowa for really wanting it and never giving up. They were undermanned and 0-5 on the road. And despite that, they outscored us by 20 points over the last 15 minutes in the RAC. That's hard to believe.

Pike Enthusiasts

Right so give you hope and tickle your mind with possibilities of sweat 16 and NCAA magic. Talks of remodeling the RAC. NBA prospects . The excitement through the roof.

Only to fail miserably at his job and have it all disappear in a historic season that will have us as the laughing stock all tournament long.

So is it worse to be awful or provide hope and then prove to all big time recruits not to go to Rutgers? The team next year will be at EJ levels, we lost all big recruits, corporate donors, remodel, and became a larger national embarrassment story.
Listen no one is arguing that this year is not a complete shit show and major disappointment and that is in part of Pike. However the other absolute forward looking worse cases aren’t true. We could have a few top 150 players returning next year, we have at least one other top 150 player coming in and we are very much in it for a few top 150 kids for next years class. We lose all of them then your no big ten talent statement can hold some water. The national embarrassment story line is true but for right now. Yes articles will be written leading up to the tournament about the big miss but guess what shortly after articles will be written about two top lottery picks both playing at Rutgers. The pain from this year will live on much longer for the members of this board not the general public. The corporate sponsors were a Bailey Harper thing not a Rutgers thing. On the upside we will have rev share to play with next year (new upside) and my guy tells me Pike will approach NIL outreach for donors differently as well. We are looonng way from Eddie Jordan days.

Stop taking portal kids and follow Purdue, Wisconsin & Sparty

They haven't taken 9 kids in 3 years, maybe I am wrong.

The last relevant portal kids was AJ Storr, who was there for 1 year and left for Kansas, where he's struggling at around 7PPG there.

Obviously every program adds a player or two via the portal, but unless that player is filling in a spot or a bench role, the bulk of the pieces have to be in place. Spencer was a rare situation with veterans all over the starting lineup and we still struggled because of the lack of bench players around those starters.
While I agree with the OP, Wisconsin does use the portal a decent bit (John Tonje, Max Klesmit, Kamari McGee this year). The difference is their transfers often end up being really good

Wisconsin uses the portal, what are you talking about?
