2024 - 2025 High School Season and Tournaments

Well, Southern High school blew away my local team, Washington Township last night (I have two "locals" in New Jersey, that's one of them.) Nearly all the Southern wins were at bonus-point level. Township won only one match. Southern forfeited the last two weights (which by coincidence were against Township's two best wrestlers, but I know that had nothing to do with the reason).

Anybody know how Southern does it year after year? They always have a lineup of tough, smart kids who don't have fancy move-itis** and are always working for the fall. It must be due to a good feeder system and excellent coaching. I love that program.

Also, any ideas on why Southern would forfeit those last two matches? Forfeiting doesn't seem to be in their DNA from what I see. Maybe they just wanted to go home.

** often wasting an entire period trying to work some high-level move that I have no clue about, when they could easily pin their opponent with something more basic like a half-nelson, arm bar or cradle.
Southern is a great program, tuff hard nosed kids and very good coaching. But like many top Public schools they "benefit" from key additions each year from "outside" the sending area.

OT: Minor Snowfall for Most (except moderate N of 80 towards 84 w/some icing) Sat (2/15) pm, Followed by Heavy Rain for Everyone

This looks to be a fairly minor snowfall Saturday afternoon/evening for everyone south of 80, as per the NWS snowfall map below, which is showing <1" south of 78 with 1-2" from 78 to 80. However it's showing 2-4" N of 80/NW of 287 in PA/NJ and N of 287 in NY and there's also the threat of a period of freezing rain when warm air aloft surges north. Any snow should change to rain from south to north Saturday evening with 1" or so of much needed rain for just about everyone in the region through Sunday morning as warm air surges into the area associated with a low taking aim at NJ or just N of us (that's always a warm track even if it starts off cold); temps should reach the 50s SE of 95 towards the coast on Sunday, but it may remain in the low 40s for areas N of 80 towards 84. Extended icing, though, is possible for areas towards and N of 84, i.e., Sussex, the Poconos and the mid-Hudson Valley before the changeover to rain. The first link below for the NWS snowfall map and the 2nd for the AmericanWx discussion.

It should be noted, however that there's a lot of disagreement among the models so far with many of the models showing a bit more front-end snow than the NWS map, i.e., 1-3" from 276/195 to 80 and 2-4" N of 80 (except the Euro, which is quite similar to the NWS forecast and has been doing quite well this winter - did great on Tuesday and on 2/8). Let's see what the 12Z models say before worrying about getting more snow than the NWS is showing. Also, FYI, I'm going to try to keep future weather posts shorter with just the key highlights and not all of the details and model analysis, as it just takes too much time, especially for these mixed precip events, which are so difficult to forecast and have so many possible outcomes for so many locations (we'll see how that works out lol). The pure snow events are way easier to discuss, like Tuesday's.

Pike Presser

What fans see in games should be a reflection of what occurs during practices. Its hard to understand that the team doesn't practice inbounding passes, switching on defense and positioning for rebounds .As to the half court offense there is no system other than iso basketball which doesn't work with this roster .

Stop taking portal kids and follow Purdue, Wisconsin & Sparty

But why do I assume that? Last year we took the portal players we did because Spencer and Mulcahy left, for example. Did we want Griffiths to leave? Hell, did we want Simpson to leave?

"Retain your players" is great strategy.. if it's actually doable.

And it goes both ways.

Did we want Jalen Miller to stay?
Did we want Chol to stay?
Did we want Woolf to stay?

This whole strategy of "continuity" that everyone loves only works if the players are worth keeping.

Pike Enthusiasts

Sorry we are all upset but this is crazy. We are nowhere close to Jordan level. At least pike showed it’s possible to win here.
You don't know the worst of it and I liked Jordan. He had no discipline, no one went to class and we lost badly. That was a disaster, he had no control at all and Pike came in and turned it around. Like I said he still has a lot of earned good will that will last awhile with the board.

Pike Enthusiasts

A) he’s not holding anyone hostage.
B) he has proven to be a very good coach over the course of his career.
C) Rutgers owes him a lot of money
D) this season was a failed experiment. Given the chance to do it again everyone would still take Dylan and Ace.
E) NIL funds were not there for this year. Schiano didn’t have much either. Pike needs to embrace NIL (Like Greg did the past few
months) to get the right roster.
F) 2023-24 Pike got screwed with 2 starters leaving in May and the Mag Injury.
G) 2015-2018 he improved every year. 2019-2023 he built tournament quality teams. The past two seasons were unfortunate and a step backwards with departures and injuries. Progress isn’t linear.

He’s not leaving, unless he wants to.
The biggest negatives in regard to Pikiell is the inability to win conference games especially in recent years at the RAC.
