True, Pat was dipping his pen in the University ink, so to speak. Who knows how many things he was asleep at the wheel with while he was running around playing grab ass.
lol....I haven't heard "grab ass" in years. That's what our pee wee football coach used to yell at us when we were messing around. "KNOCK OFF THE GRAB ASS YOU FAIRIES!" lol different times.

Pike: “100 percent on me” for Iowa loss- two thoughts

The play has to compliment the crowd with crisp passing, rhythm plays and shot making. We don't have guards 1 to 4 that make shots and there's no one that can say in mid February, what the player rotation is, once the starters are announced.

The staff owns the majority of this, but I feel like we got killed with injuries and a lack of consistent play from seniors via the portal (JWill, Martini, Acuff and Hayes).....Derkack has been uneven for most of his 1st year and that's 5 upperclassman....asking 4 freshman and JMike to carry the load is tough.

Do I think RU can win the next 4 in a row, with 3 on the road?? Absolutely, but if the staff randomly decides JMike plays 29 minutes one game and 11 minutes the next one and PJ Hayes suddenly becomes the 1st guard off the bench vs Iowa, you're asking for problems as a staff and that impacts the fanbase.

Fans cheer when they know what to expect.....

Players play harder, when they know what to expect in terms of minutes and playing time.

Mishandling and poor roster development plans for Grant, Sommerville and Dortch, have RU in a hole, because the seniors are essentially, just not as consistent as the freshman are....

Hayes being first off the bench was mind numbing.

I don't know what was more insane. The fact that he actually dropped not one but two Iowa defenders or the fact that he bricked both wide open 3s afterward.

Perfect! The board is doing a tremendous job. No president , No AD, 2 failing athletics programs. If we are not careful in the next five years we will be out of power 4 athletics. Hope the board will be happy then.
You better just hope we have people like Towers on the board, you have NO idea how bad it can be for athletics here.Thank god for Schiano and his influence, don't wish for what you may get.

Pony up or Shut Up

Next month starts Free Agency, or the transfer portal, or whatever you want to call it, and Pike needs all the resources he can get. We need impact players, not schlubs who take up space. Impact players cost 💲, which we don’t have enough of. Maryland fans ponied up and the majority of their scoring is from transfers.

Maryland Transfers Point totals From Rutgers Game
Rodney Rice- transfer from VT - 19 pts
Selton Miguel - transfer from South Florida - 17 pts
Ja’ Kobi Gillespie - transfer from Belmont - 14 pts

Our transfers are not contributing enough because we chose from the bargain bin. They are too inconsistent. The performance on Court is a reflection of our support or lack thereof and We are reaping what we sowed.

I knew we were F’d as soon as we lost Cliff. Only to watch him languish on the bench. This year, we must hold on to Somerville, and add the appropriate complementary players. Get the right players and we can get back to the tournament next year.
Maryland has a far better coach. Small time contributions from fans make zero difference. Don't send your Social Security checks to Rutgers Athletics.

Rotation going forward - play for next year

Rutgers doesn't want to lose every game by 20 points.I doubt many fans would attend the final two home games if Bailey and Harper weren't playing.
If Dylan is going to carry himself like he did yesterday we are much better off with him staying home.

We win last night if Ace and Dylan stayed in their dorms.

I know we don't like +/- but both were -16s

Can we finally stop with the “if Ace and Dylan were healthy all year”

Interesting how the announcers talked about our warm-up coming out of halftime. I watch a good amount of college basketball and I've never heard announcers say something like that before.
There is a clear lack of attention to detail starting in practices and through the entirety of games.Rutgers team has obvious flaws that aren't being addressed. How the team performs is a reflection on the players as well as the coaching staff.High hopes to start the season and disappointing results are the outcome on the court.

Ace and Dylan Attitudes

With the effort both of them have given this year I think it's pretty disingenuous to just accuse them of quitting on the season now.

I'm lucky enough to sit pretty close to the court. I can tell you the following for a fact.

Ace was a shell of himself. Looked winded almost from the start. Which we (should) all know is classic tell tale of being sick. Your wind just goes. Basketball skills still there and he was hitting shots early but you just can't get yourself to do the little things that lead to winning.

Jeremiah must've lost 12 pounds easy. He looked like a midget out there. So scrawny.

Dylan is definitely playing less than 100%. Who knows if it's the ankle or the frosh wall or whatever. But his burst is way down. You also have to give credit to other teams they are making sure to clog that middle and shut down his top of the key drives. They are also wearing him down. Watched him on defense trying to fight through screens he's taking a beating out there. I'm sure Iowa's gameplan is to be physical and hit him early and often.

Last night the second half was gross. There is no denying it. They definitely broke at the end. It happens. Obviously the season is toast. I'd still bet money they come out with good effort next game though. We shall see.

Who said anything about " nice" kids?? I said Jordan and coaches before him had no control and had big academic issues, never went to class etc. If you don't think that's one of the key issues the board considers in a coach you're uninformed . He's not just hired to win games, RU is not some win at all costs type of school -- check the resumes of the board members. We're lucky to have had people like brown and now Towers on there who care about athletics. Pikes not a Schiano but they loved the job he did not embarrassing them like those before him. So yes he has built up good will that will carry him a bit linger.

Pike: “100 percent on me” for Iowa loss- two thoughts

My thoughts :

- For many fans, myself included , going to the games as of late has been a chore. As such. we’re not as enthusiastic as we have previously been !

- We go the games and see with our eyes a squad with very little killer instinct / very little team cohesiveness and a team that we know will find a way to lose the game

- At halftime last night even up 9, I asked “ when will game be a 1 possession game “

- Speaking for myself, for some reason , I never felt the emotional attachment to this team as I have had with many other prior squads !
Absolute clown show. Two Top Ten picks (yes, time to start moving them down, IMO) and we are under .500.

Not for nothing we didn't do any of these things particularly well even when we were good... we were fueled by great defense and forcing turnovers which we don't do well now either

I have never seen us run a good offense at Rutgers pretty much in my life time (35 years old)

I have ALWAYS admired Fran McCaffrey's knowledge of offense and how he always runs sets that get his guys good shots going all the way back to when he was at Siena. That is the type of guy we should have targeted long ago and I think he would have loved an east coast job like this.

Stop taking portal kids and follow Purdue, Wisconsin & Sparty

This is the path for what works for pike

Questions are

1.) after three classes that yielded Jmike , the class of 2024 and 2025 need to be retained and developed . Can we retain

2.) can we continue to add solid classes (Somerville , grant and Dortch is a very solid class even without ace and Dylan ) for the next couple of years

We will know a lot more by November ….

RAPID REACTION - Iowa

I'll cut Dylan and Ace slack. I was at the game and they both clearly weren't fully recovered or well from their recent health issues.
agreed. it was clear they were nowhere near 100%... but we had no gameplan that considered that.

Here's teh thing.. The players knew they were not 100% and played like they were more decoys to pass the ball to others to make moves... but the other players did not play that way. They still looked like they were playing hot potato.. get rid of this ball thing. That led to clumsy and ugly turnovers.. for the second straight game.

If this was a one-off.. okay.. but it is not a one-off. We just saw this at Maryland and probably thought.. well, a road game at a ranked team.. okay.. move on.. next game. But come on.. this was piss poor.

WE WERE UP BY 8 POINTS 5 MINUTES INTO THE SECOND HALF! THE CROWD COULD HAVE CARRIED US! We weren't awful the whole game.

Football Rutgers Football CBs coach Mark Orphey to Texas

this has been in the works . i don’t agree that he went back home only because he did not get DC position
Thats not what I said. I agree it's been in the works. The fact that he wasn't named co-dc made it very apparent he was leaving. That's all I meant. There are only 34 power 2 coordinator positions (not including co's). You tell me that a coordinator role at this stage in his career, in the B1G or SEC doesn't rank above a position coach role?
