Rutgers ' spplications rise over 90%

perhaps you can shed some real insight into why she choose Rutgers vs. all these assumptions and well wishing.
multiple reasons. We are from NJ and she wants to live on campus but she doesn’t want to travel too far from home. Her older sister is currently a sophomore at RU and doing well academically and socially. We have also discussed finances and in state costs are around $33k-$35k compared to traveling out of state for a minimum $55k. If she is at Ru she can graduate without taking on debt.

OT: Will The Corner Tavern ever come back/will owners sell?

Wasn't there in the '70s but did go to the College Ave Pub a lot in the '80s. Recall Thursday nights there would be a long, long line at prime time. Once you had a hand stamp though you didn't have to wait in the line to reenter. A few of us would show up at about 7pm to get our hands stamped and then go hit a strip club before returning a couple hours later and skipping the line. We were always pretty proud of our ingenuity.😁 A few years ago I was going through a box of old stuff and actually found my pub card. I recall you needed to have a pub card to get in (or be a guest of someone who had one)?
I still have my pub card! Yasgurs farm was great!

OT: Update on SoCal Weather

From a 10:45 am this morning start to nearly 10,000 acres in 8 hours is just nuts and the winds aren't nearly as strong as they were for the initial wildfires.

https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/hughes-fire-castaic-los-angeles-county-updates/

The Hughes Fire broke out around 10:45 a.m. near Castaic Lake, off Lake Hughes Road just north of Castaic Reservoir Road, before growing to 500 acres within an hour, authorities said. By 12:30 p.m., less than two hours after first being reported, it had ripped through a total of 3,407 acres, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire.

By 4 p.m., the fire had more than doubled in size — spreading to an estimated 9,400 acres, according to the LA County Fire Department. At 5 p.m., firefighters have not discovered any burned structures. Firefighters said that while the weather conditions were driving the blaze, they were not as severe as the wildfires from earlier this month. However, Angeles National Forest Chief Robert Garcia stressed that the conditions were still critical.

"Are More New Jersey Colleges Doomed to Collapse?"

It's a great idea but the NJ legislature might try to interfere with it. On paper a school like NJCU would be very well positioned to bring in NY students but they seem to be twisting in the wind.

Ofc there is an overall tie to the demographics in the states with ones like Maine being essentially retirement homes and CO and TX growing rapidly. Makes sense for NJ to be in the middle, we're good but not growing by leaps and bounds. What is interesting with PA is that they are growing slowly or perhaps even declining slowly but their college issues seem much bigger than the decline. I have heard of NJ kids going places like West Chester- fascinating especially if they can't sell it in state.
Because it’s very “collegey” if that makes sense…you’re away, not too far but out of state, cute campus and nice little downtown that likes having the school in it.

THE OFFICIAL 2024-2025 NET RANKINGS THREAD

No matter how many times one tries to rationalize it, Princeton still, in my view, has a much better body of work than ND. We beat ND. We didn’t beat Princeton. So despite a couple one point losses to NC State and company, I’m simply not buying it. If you are comparing 2 resumes - one has a win over Princeton and the other has a win over ND, the Princeton win should be viewed more favorably in assessing win quality. NET says otherwise.

Princeton has virtually no body of work. They have two decent wins over Rutgers and St. Joe's, and just 3 Q2 games (zero Q1 games). They've lost to Wright State, Texas State, Furman, and Loyola-Chicago. They've also won nail biters against really bad Harvard, Dartmouth, Iona, Northeastern, and Monmouth teams. They have a 4-3 Q3 record.

Notre Dame won all their games against bad teams comfortably. They only have one decent win (Georgetown), but have faced 5 Q1 and 3 Q2 teams.

Neither team is very good - but I wouldn't say Princeton was the tougher team. On a neutral court, I'd rather face Princeton again than Notre Dame again.

And pretty much every metric other than RPI agrees.... and RPI has Princeton at 68 (just no) and Notre Dame at 183 (also no).

OT: We may win the World Cup in 2026

Wasn’t one of Tim Howard’s best attributes his overall athleticism? I remember reading how he would have been a major level talent in whatever he chose.
Yep, Howard was very athletic, moreso than Steffen IMO, although Steffen is a bit more athletic than Turner, but Turner probably has the better reflexes IMO and that's really important as a keeper. Neither one is great with his feet. With a mentally healthy Steffen back, I think it's going to be a good competition between them for being our starter.
