OT: 2024 NY Yankees Season Thread

And there it is. Almost every time. Projection and the word stupid. It's fun, though, that it's so prevalent that it makes you only pretty sure.

All of this still leaves us to wonder, given that the Mets walked through the Yankees this year like they were Toms River North LL, whether the Yankees were better than even the Padres.😀

(I say this with profound apologies to the normal Yankee fans who don't burp out the word stupid every time a self-loathing thought comes to mind. I feel your pain. But not this guy.)
Yanks blew game 1. Could have stolen game 2. Pissed away game 5. People are giving LA too much credit and Yanks too little credit. It was a World Series team with a little league coaching staff. Well-managed teams don’t make those mistakes. Boone & co. Need to go

COLUMN: Rutgers football's collapse is even worse than fans might think

stop
just look at the attitude on many of our fans here. How many people at RU have you spoken to, now and historically (those in positions of power and decision making), how about the state?

not a hill you want to die on
if there was nothing to what I said, you would not have replied.

You know there is *something* of concern either way.. sticking with the guy who brought us back to bowl games.. again.. or changing him for a pig in a poke. You can assume all you like that we'd hire the next Cignetti. I see no proof that will happen. I'd stick with what we have and see if he gets it done.. even if it takes more time than I would have liked.. even if he never gets there.

Here's a list of all the new coaches for 2024. How many COULD we have hired (not offered, how many could we afford and how many would have said YES to Rutgers). How many Cignettis are on that list? I'm sorry.. you Fire Schiano guys are just too sure of yourselves.

“I’m worried for Steve Pikiell”: Coaching Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper might be challenging for Rutgers HC, claims basketball analyst

2 guys that are going to make at least $100,000,000 playing basketball as a profession. It is almost a given. They have to wait 1 year to start really monetizing their abilities and are forced to play in college. If you are going to say their 1st ever game at the RAC is just "practice" then playing on a Tuesday night in late January at Penn State at 6PM in front of 3,000 fans will be no different

This idea that the freshmen are just gonna not give a crap, not try and win games is just so absurd and goes against any logic and is just a boomer take. Maybe cause of experience they’ll fail at some situational moments, be slow on rotations etc but these kids want to win and are incentivized to! You really think NBA scouts just want to watch these players do nothing to win and just chuck shots? Even if Dylan and Ace came with selfish intentions, those intentions line up with us winning

One other consideration here is the competitive fire Ace and Dylan both have. From all I've seen and read, they have that "Eye of the Tiger" type of competitiveness that drives highly talented players to be special. So even if they're only here 9 months and Rutgers is a stepping-stone to the NBA, these are kids that (1) WANT to get better; (2) WANT to WIN; and (3) seem to trust Pike to get to nos. 1 and 2.

Of course I do. Do you realize how much money both of these guys are going to make in 8 months? We are both fans so i don't want to be a jerk....but you may be Alex Verdugo here. Have fun playing golf today and sorry you made the last out.
I do think it’s unfounded to suggest Ace and Dylan’s intent will be anything other than to give 100% for their team. Especially at the start of the season and especially if the season is going well.

But, there is a very high likelihood that should a kyrie type situation occur, that these guys will take the kyrie path. That’s just the reality of the landscape of basketball in our country when it comes to lottery picks. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is more important than not jeopardizing getting to their second NBA contract. I am much more worried about Ace slightly tweaking a knee or Dylan rolling an ankle and shutting it down in the beginning of December. These short CBB seasons come and go quick. They have no incentive to rush back. It happens less likely than it doesn’t, don’t get me wrong.

The other scenario, should we fail to be on track to be a tournament team in late January, would be making assumptions we just don’t know how they would react yet.

OT: New York Mets 2024-2025 Off Season Thread

One Mets podcast said, they can sign Soto (AVV of $50 million, 10 years), Pete, Burnes, and Manaea based on the money coming off the books without worrying about the Cohen tax. The Mets will need to be creative like the Dodgers to get around that.
That is probably true. But just to clarify, the "Cohen tax" is the fourth (highest) luxury tax tier. For 2025 there are four luxury tax tiers: $241M, $261M, $281M, and $301M. I am not sure what the Cohen/Stearns budgetary target is, or if there even is one.

By "creative", I assume you mean deferrals? While that certainly helps cashflow, it does not help with luxury tax. Luxury tax for deferred contracts is based on present value. For instance, the present value of Ohtani's 10 year $700M deferred contract is $460M. So for luxury tax purposes, the charge is $46M per year.

How bout a $1000/plate spaghetti dinner at Schiano’s to support NIL??

Do other schools use up all their full share in operational expenses? Do you have any proof of that?

Yes, Ohio State does.

please refer to Ohio States Financial Statement for 2023, linked below, see for yourself.

They took in 279M in Revenue and 274.9M in expenses. Included in revenue is 57.8M in donations.
