BACATOLOGY 2/24: NCAA TOURNAMENT ANALYSIS

Non conference matters because its 1/3 of body of work. Committee specifically is looking for a win there
I think if you are objectively looking at the games and not the resumes, the OOC is not as relevant for the Power 4 programs....it is for other leagues like the Big East, AAC, Mountain West, etc.....this is 2025 and the new sizes of the conferences have to account for how these rosters are viewed. It's clearly not the same across the board.

There's going to be at least 3 teams at just 2 games over .500 entering the field, if they evaluate the teams and resumes fairly. That's another benchmark of years past that was a rule of sorts.

There has been no comments about the committee for this years evaluation of the field based on how these conferences are playing now. So there's only basing things on how the committee has evaluated things in past years.

BACATOLOGY 2/24: NCAA TOURNAMENT ANALYSIS

Does VCU get an at large bid if they don’t win the Atlantic 10 tournament?
Likely....almost mortal lock if they win next 2. If they lose to Dayton in finale and then lose in A10 it becomes hairier.

Not the best of resumes but alot of wins and regular season title means alot from top 10 conference

Also UC San Diego and Drake will also be attractive at large selection if they don't win their conference tournaments

Knox father arrested at state tourney match

Apparently spectators and security have NOT corroborated the Knox version of verbal abuse. You don’t think Delbarton, CBA, etc. gets abused yet I don’t recall any other instances of father and son ending up in cuffs. Knox Sr. Is acting like a victim and it’s laughable.
I’m sure every away team has gotten their fair share of heckling, private or public. I’ve been to more high school matches in more gyms than I care to count, rarely does it result in an explosion. I’ve repeatedly said that Knox Sr. was the spark that caused everything to blow up, and that everyone involved including Knox Jr. has some level of culpability for what happened.

Question

It doesn’t happen , it is extremely rare. Teams like Houston and St. John’s would have it called on every possession . They were 2 bull shit calls called against us . You can go rewatch the plays and they weren’t that egregious as the Michigan player was still able to spin. The Michigan player was never in a position to throw an elbow on the spin. Again total bullshit and added 2 more team fouls making us more skittish playing tight defense thereafter and affected it.
It does happen, you are replying to an example from this week I gave you. I would probably agree, a Houston, or this years St. johns get away with it because they play good in your face defense at all times. Same as RU used to and would get away a committing defensive fouls.
Bullshit calls or not, we still had a lead w one second to go and they aren't why we lost.

OT: Gene Hackman and his wife found dead in their New Mexico home

I don't blame him for moving away from city life ,he was one of the popular actors alive. But when did he say he didn't want to be with family ? It was up to the family to keep in touch.
The daughter talked about it. And they used see friends in Santa Fe frequently. They didn't recently move there. They were there 16 years. People didn't bother them there, yet they stopped going into town.

OT: Gene Hackman and his wife found dead in their New Mexico home

He didn't want that much contact from his kids. Not the other way around. They didn't enjoy contact with anyone the past few years. Wake up. They died weeks ago and nobody knew because they didn't want people in their lives everyday. Sad but it's actually more common than you think.

This shot chart is a total indictment of steve pikiells lack of an offense

St Johns takes more mid range shots than anyone else I've seen on a regular basis and they have the best coach of all time in Rick Pitino......Pitino has also had teams that favored taking a bunch of 3 point shots, at Providence, Kentucky and Louisville.

The point that the Pike critics cannot comprehend is that you have to coach to your personnel and talent level, which is why the OP fails so often.....instead of picking actual valid items, he picks random items that have no relevance at all.

I'm going to wait for the Pitino St Johme shot charts to be posted and see how different it looks that RUs....neither team has good 3 point shooting, so why would someone say RU should have a shot chart like Michigan.....its just dumb comments that aren't even close to reality.

Theres no dining hall on college ave???

He can pick his 1st choice to be Livingston, but he seems to like the action of college ave. Although he is a huge RU bball fan, so would be fun to live on Livingston.

Here is another thing - I can't believe the workout gyms have not been updated since 1998. College Ave gym still in that crowded basement with 4 treadmills. Livingston gym also tiny. JMU's Rec center was AMAZING... 40+ treadmills, tons of workout equipment, brand new basketball courts, swimming pool that was hang out area. I was amazed. It looks like a bigger, newer Lifetime Fitness. If you live in VA, it is no brainer to go there.

I know Sonny Werblin is much nicer and more modern (we have to go back to see), but he won't have any classes on Busch, so wouldn't make sense for him to live there. I would not want to make a 30 minute trek to Busch to eat or workout.

RU is his slight 1A top choice of DE 1B and JMU 1C, but from a parent's perspective, I would feel more comfortable sending him to Delaware over RU, even it means another 20k per year. (walkable campus, better dining, better rec center, although not the B10 sports scene that he likes) ughhhhh - almost wish he got into only 1 of those 3 schools.

Question

I don’t think the cylinder rule should apply when you’re behind the ball-handler, unless your foot goes in front of his foot. If that happened in both cases then it was probably the right call, even though it’s rare.

If that did not happen then the rule should not apply, since the ball-handler had full access to his pivot moves.
Easier and more fair to eliminate the rule. As it is when a defender plays tight defense on a ball handler a foul is called 90 % of the time
