Penn State throttling Iowa

Nits having their way with the Hawkeyes in Happy Valley, 72-59 with under 7 minutes remaining, and the score doesn’t indicate how bad Iowa has been.

Kris Murray is good, Rebraca has some energy, but nobody else is playing well, and Iowa is pillow soft on defense and have zero athleticism. The Iowa Rivals hoops board is in meltdown, many calling for Fran’s head.

On the other hand, this game confirms what I think we already sort of knew - PSU is really good on offense, Jalen Pickett would be league MVP were it not for Zach Edey, and Andrew Funk is a major problem. They also play really solid defense. I definitely see PSU as a “top half” team.

And as I type this, Iowa has cut the deficit to 78-69 with 3 minutes left.

How about OC Danny Langsdorf?

Temple's Offensive Coordinator, who is a well-known QB whisperer and previously Offensive Coordinator at Nebraska and Oregon St.

ESPECIALLY if he can bring future NFL prospect QB EJ Warner (Kurt Warner's son) who won various rookie of the year awards and broke records in his first season.

Langsdorf has a crazy amount of experience coaching QBs -- as QBs coach for New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, Nebraska, Fresno St, UNLV, Oregon St, and Colorado.

I think many of us would agree, we need a QB guy.

In Langsdorf's offense, EJ Warner threw for 3,028 yards and 18 TDs as a true freshman. And only got better as the season went along. EJ threw for over 1500 yards 10 TDs in his final 4 games. And keep in mind, this was Langsdorf's first year too.

Langsdorf wouldn't have to move his family very far...

Purdue

I will give you the thinking of a former D-1 coach on Monday:

The Rutgers guards are really to big for Purdue guards to handle and will get backed into the post, especially by Mulcahy.

The key may be Omoruyi avoiding 2 early fouls.

Mackey is as tough a place as there is in the country.

Purdue had a generational team last season and this team is nowhere close to it.

Caleb needs to take his jumper more,as he is much improved offensively.

  • Poll
Would Rutgers be better off in the ACC?

Would RU be better off in the ACC?

  • No, as a whole, RU is better off in the BiG

    Votes: 157 78.9%
  • Yes, RU would be better off in the ACC

    Votes: 42 21.1%

While some RU sports have been able to compete and win in the BiG, it is becoming increasingly apparent that Rutgers football will not be able to have sustained competitive success in the conference (I’ll define that with a low bar of averaging 6 wins over a 5 year period).

After 9 years, things are not improving for RU football. Without NIL money in the pipeline, the future for Rutgers football looks bleak.

So here’s the question, would Rutgers be better off competitively, culturally and financially (relative to what net costs are to be competitive in each conference) if the university was part off the ACC? Not just for football (which drives the bus for Athletic programs), but for all sports.

GAME 13 Coppin State: We're Ready

No need to talk much about the Coppin State game. This one was over in the first few minutes. I will keep this brief and to the point. The non conference slate is now over. RU suffered some bumps and bruises early on with injuries contributing to losses to Temple and Miami. Bounced back in a rousing way vs Big 10 preseason fave Indiana. Then, RU had a game stolen from them at Ohio State, the aftertaste of which left them with a rancid offensive performance vs SHU at the RAC. Yet onward and upward, the Knights responded by blowing out Wake Forest and demolishing the final two cupcakes. Finishing the non conference slate at 8-3 and running up margins of victory of 40, 38, 30, 34, 35, 33 the Knights not only took care of every cupcakes they swallowed them whole and and still look like they are hungry.

Beating #1 Purdue at Mackey Arena would provide the tastiest morsel of all not only for a program looking to cement itself as a regular NCAA participant but for a fanbase that starting to ask "Why Not Rutgers?" when it comes to talking about Big 10 title contenders. Even though RU as well as the rest of the Big 10 has played a couple of conference games already, there is something about that first league game of the new year and those first few games in January which will come fast and furious....3 games for RU in just 7 days. It all starts with Purdue and circles back to the RAC for tilts with Maryland and Iowa. A fully healthy RU squad starting to move the bus using all cylinders playing the best consistent defense of anyone in the country will be a fun watch. Perhaps the highest ceiling of any RU basketball since the 70s, RU Ready, We're Ready, We're Ready for More.....
