Purdue takes Duke behind the woodshed (after doing the same to Gonzaga)

OK, not quite blowouts, but in both games this weekend (both top 10 wins), Purdue manhandled both teams down the stretch winning 84-66 against the Zags and 75-56 against the hated Dookies (so happy to see them and all their top recruits getting run out of the building at the end). Edey is playing really well, along with a cast of complementary players who play good defense, share the ball, and can shoot. They've also beaten Marquette and WV, so I could see them rising from #24 to the top 10 or even top 5 with 2 straight top ten wins. Purdue going to be a tough test on the road...

Thought we played terribly today

Was at the game today with my two daughters and couldn’t help but laugh after the game. We played like we were passed out on the couch after eating too much for thanksgiving yet we still crushed them. I really hope that bodes well for the season.

I love Cliff, but he prob has the worst shooting % of any big in the conference. Also had a ton of turnovers today. Just really wasn’t his day.

Funny story. As I mentioned I brought my two daughters to the game. For my 2 year old, it was her first ever game. She has a blast even though she kept cheering “let’s go Mets”. Anyways, after the game I was standing by the locker room when I look over to see what my daughter is doing. There she is high giving the whole team. Durban thanks to Caleb and Pike for taking the time to talk to her.

Miller

Didn’t play enough yesterday in my opinion. I’ve been hard on him before, but he was the only bench option worth a lick yesterday. In 11 minutes of action, he made a nice basket, grabbed 4 boards, had an assist and didn’t turn the ball over. Another driving lay up was in and out. His one bad shot was a put back on an offensive board in traffic where he should’ve kicked it out. I saw a lot of improvement and promise from him.

If Caleb and Paul can’t go, I hope to see more of him vs. Rider.

Today Greg lost me .. Greg Schian or Greg Schiano-O

Watching my favorite team should not feel like work. It’s not an obligation , it should be fun.
Mets giants devils Knicks
Rutgers Football is my favorite and it just a horrible product. Defense hangs in until exhaustion then gives up tons of points .

EVERY game EVERY QB is better than what we have. Even several HS QBs look better throwing the football. I get R o line sucks but lob passes to no one . 2 first downs , under 100 yards is just awful

Year 35 going to games and it’s getting harder and harder even after surviving the 90’s and 00’s

AD and NIL Collectives Should Prioritize Men's Basketball and Olympic Sports

Like some on the board, I was not in favor of Schiano 2.0; thought his warts - ego, mgmt style, resulting staff turnover, schemes, personnel usage, player development, etc - would be too difficult to overcome...particularly in the B1G East.

Time will tell, as GS is here to stay for the foreseeable future, but I just don't see him successfully competing, particularly now with the new NIL / free agency portal landscape. Even with an increase in NIL funding, I anticipate GS would continue to underperform recruit / transfer rankings - for the reasons mentioned above. My hope when GS was hired was a new indoor practice facility and a reasonably respectable program that an offensive-minded coach would take over...and then hopefully take the next step.

With the above now seemingly in doubt...I think the AD and collectives should prioritize the programs that have proven that they're able to produce more with less. I'm certainly not advocating that the AD bleed the football program - I know FB drives the bus and is the primary reason we're in the B1G. But since the magical 2006 season, GS has tended to produce less with more - relative to other RU programs. In fairness to GS or any affordable FB coach, the B1G lift may just be too heavy.

Men's basketball and many of the Olympic Sports have had multiple magical seasons. I'd like to see them provided the resources necessary to produce more with more - very possible, as the collectives gain traction and our conference share increases to a full share I believe in 2027. Go RU!

What would other big ten teams do?

I know I’m going to get killed for this post, so I will try to preface it with some things. I understand that Rutgers is stuck right now considering Schianos contract, and the financial situation we are in. However, I also understand that only a blind optimist would think we are heading in the right direction. There are no signs of improvement, and clearly this is the worst year of Schiano 2.0, all with mostly his recruits and his culture completely in the system.

So with all that in mind, I wanted to throw out a hypothetical? What would other big ten teams do right now? Is there any other team besides rutgers who wouldn’t fire schiano after this season? Obviously the top guys would, not worth discussing that. So let’s think of the tier 2 and below teams. Michigan state? I think Yes. Maryland? Yes. Indiana? Maybe not, but I lean towards yes here. Obviously the big guys in the west would (Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska). Minnesota? Yes I believe So. Illinois? Based on recent years I’d say yes. Northwestern? Maybe not, but at worst 50-50.

So that’s two teams that MAYBE wouldn’t fire schiano in this situation. If we ever want to be serious about football, we should follow what the others in our league would do and make tough but necessary decisions. Unfortunately, I know It is very unlikely we won’t.

And this is not an ego thing, I loved the schiano hire. Now I’m admitting it failed.

What does everyone think?

Gavin's Future

When Gleeson was fired, we had no idea what Gavin really was due to the injury suffered against Temple. I said around that time that RU needed to figure it out quickly if he had a future at QB otherwise a position change a la Illinios' Isaiah Williams could be in the cards.

Based on the last 5 games, have we seen enough from Gavin that says he's on the way to be a competent P5 QB? Or does he hold more value moving to WR with his athletic ability?

Pros: Strong arm, athleticism
Cons: Footwork, mechanics, no touch on passes, doesn't slide up into pocket as a few examples
Unknowns: How much the injury held him back from running ball, what quality coaching will yield

While Nova and Teel made a frustrating amount of errors in their first year I never had a thought that they wouldn't make it as a QB. Can't say I have the same feeling with Gavin and this could be partly due to I felt he wasn't ready yet when this season started.

Obviously we need to know who the OC will be. However, I really would not feel like RU has lost much if they go after a decent portal QB and ask Gavin to change positions or inform him that he is a backup. It's critical that RU gets production from the QB in 2023.

Please no comments on Gavin transferring unless you believe that RU can't replace his production. Then explain what he's shown to be irreplaceable.

Fixing the O for $5M

This is not getting new coach and eating salary..

Get 4 or 5 top tier Transfers or 4/5* lineman.
How? 5@ 750k or 4 @1M NIL deals.

& New OC to replace Sean salary(1M) with up to additional 1M for top tier or use extra !M
to get additional QB coach and new OC.

If angry boosters would consider buying out HC, then they could do this 1 year and see if it turns around. Defense is good enough, offense needs line & coaching kids up.

If Greg is not on a rolling 8 year guarantee, then after next year he would have 4 years left on contract which is rolling standard for college coaches. No big issue for buy out.

Also 1 more year gets more revenue to have booster cover NIL & we have other funding for what booster was covering for 5M.

Greg Schiano has to get better before Rutgers can

Aaron Breitman is usually the epitome of positivity.

"If Rutgers is going to take a step forward or even two in 2023, it starts with Schiano getting better. Penalties, turnover, spotty offensive play calling, mishandling of the quarterback situation and questionable decisions all plagued the Scarlet Knights this past season."

"Schiano promised multiple times this season that the team would be better in November than they were in September. Based ending the season with a five game losing streak and four defeats coming by at least 31 points, it’s hard to argue that Rutgers is better. In fact, it’s hard to argue the program isn’t at a low point since his return."
