OT: Great Save by NYPD Cops

The police have been beaten up on the internet for awhile. Saw this just now and, in appreciation for all the good work so many good cops do out there, thought I should post it. Putting themselves in harms way to save a life. Great job.

Urban Meyer said it when Greg was hired .......

.....when discussing what GS needs to do to be successful at Rutgers in the Big Ten:

"The first conversation has to be about recruiting, and the last conversation has to be about recruiting. I don't understand why there has be be any confusion about that. This is college football.... and the teams with the better players win."

Recruiting is now 95% about NIL.

So either donors raise the money needed to get better players through a NIL collective and/or find ways for businesses in the area to get an actual ROI out of paying college athletes. you need to cheat like every other school and set something supported by the university raise the money needed to buy players.

If we dont figure NIL out....... who the coach is wont matter. No successful seasons are coming with the players we have

Launder some money and buy the players we need to compete. This is the game now.

all of a sudden Schiano will be coach of the year lol.

The actual importance of the head coach to wins and losses is overstated in comparison to NIL IMO. Don't give to buyout a coach. Give to NIL!

Schiano doing Schiano things yet again..

Told everyone last season what we have as a coach and, of course, all I got was vitriol. I broke down Schiano's history and followed up with all of his coaching flaws using data and multiple historical examples from his lackluster career, yet all I saw in response was personal insults.

Inexplicably, some of our fans STILL think he's a great coach. It's the biggest cognitive dissonance in sports right now.

And since recruiting is the lifeblood of any program, how is Schiano doing there this year? One of the worst classes in the conference. Add to that his complete inability to develop players at this level and the loss of our best player (our punter), and we have a recipe for more years of being a national embarrassment.

Again, are you a Rutgers fan or a GS fan? It should be becoming more and more obvious that they are contrary intentions.

Basketball people

I’m a casual follower of roundball so maybe someone who is a guru can help me out answering this question.

What does Hyatt bring to the team? He disrupts the offense, can’t shoot inside, and is basically a black hole. Other teams scouting should know by now that once he gets the ball inside the arc the defense should just collapse and defend him because it’s never coming back out unless it is a missed basket.

Injuries

Paul and Caleb getting hurt is really effing up this season. We were going to be good this year based on elite defense and being in total synch with each other as a unit. We don’t have any alphas on offense that can carry us. This was always going to be a whole greater than sum of the parts type season and this is a big setback. Now whenever Caleb gets back he’ll be rusty and there will be an adjustment period. Paul’s shoulder injury seems like it’s going to be one of those lingering things.

Hope I’m wrong. Only bright side is Simpson being forced into action will hopefully accelerate his growth.

Reiber’s total absence is also disappointing

Northwestern

Next year's season opener. Two of the worst P-5 teams in the country going head to head. Bookies are going to have fun setting the under in that game. But, hey, what a great chance to start the season on a positive note. I think the under/over on wins for the season will be 3.5 (Wagner, possibly Temple, and who else?)

NIL: I don't get it

In 2014 Rutgers made the cruise ship, joined the best conference in America, ensured the future. Now NIL comes along, and all of a sudden we're doomed. Don't get me wrong, I know the ground rules here. NIL money cannot come directly from the schools to players. But it still doesn't make sense to me. Media giants are paying millions of dollars a year to Rutgers so we can build facilities, hire coaches, improve the infrastructure. But we have no players to put in these facilities? You're telling me that media advertisers are paying millions of dollars to a conference that has its worst team in the biggest market? Are they happy when all those TV sets are being turned off mid 2nd qtr when RU is down 28-0? I ask you, Is this a sustainable business model? Or can Rutgers be the Pittsburgh Pirates of college football? You know, sit back, collect the millions, and not care about the product. Stadium can be Covid empty, and Scott Goodale can be the Head Coach in his spare time after wrestling practice ends.
Pat Hobbs said his job as AD basically comes down to turning dollars from donors into victories. But the serious money comes from the media rights. How does he change those dollars into victories if he's prohibited from paying his employees (players)?
I don't get it. Something has to change.

What comes first the chicken or the egg

I have been on these forums for over 30 years. I can remember the mantra win and they will come regarding recruits. Well if you don’t have the players needed to win your chances of winning is reduced which in turn hurts your recruiting effort
After reading what some have posted about the so called big donors I came to the conclusion that many on here would agree with, recruiting is a completely different animal in today’s environment.
It is obvious we need NIL money and lots of it. Lets play devils advocate. What if we had NIL money like the big boys ie TAM, would we have had a better chance to land kids like Bisonti. If answer is yes then these so called big donors don’t see the long term picture and by supposedly pulling their donation etc are only hurting the program and would be part of the problem going forward.
These thoughts are just my opinions. Obviously no one on the forum can tell the big donors, or any donor how to spend their money.
It’s going to be a long uphill battle.

NIL Clarification needed

I don't want this to turn into an indictment on our fans' commitment to the program or a criticism of the staff's ability to recruit. But I see a lot of people referencing how everything is about NIL now and how that is the single biggest hurdle/cause for why this 2023 recruiting class simply isn't good enough. But I'm very much at a "Show Your Work" point because I feel like it's just being thrown around because it's easy to say and everyone just accepts it.
I'd like the Rivals staff or people who are really in the know (specific examples even if no name given) to be more specific on how NIL is keeping kids from coming here. I get how it eliminated whatever small chance we had with Bisontis. And I know the stories of what they're doing at Miami and A&M and Tennessee and USC for all of the high profile recruits. But those aren't the only guys that we've missed on this year. So are all of the 3-star regional recruits also getting money when they choose Maryland or Pitt or Illinois or whoever else we've lost to in recruiting battles? Also, did a guy Bridgeman actually get money from Michigan or did he just choose them over us (seemed like a guy we had a really good shot at)?
It just feels too easy to say "NIL" without some context.
