I will enjoy my breakfast tomorrow for sure! Love y’all!

My Hogs are 5-5 and look like hell. But the game Saturday night versus Ole Miss is under the lights and under 32 degrees!

RutgersAl Michigan State Recap

- Team went with a different OL look with Zilinskas at Center, Direnzo at LT, and Asamoah at Left Guard. The changes inspired the best rushing output of the season. Asamoah really looked good for his first start. OL produced huge holes for the backs to run through.

- QB and receivers are showing better chemistry, which resulted in >200 yards passing. Get at least 2 impact WRs, 1 impact OG, and 1 impact TE from the portal, and this offense will be ready to flourish

- If the offense can show a pulse against Penn State and Maryland, give Nunzio the job. I’m satisfied that we’re getting better. Need more talent. Add the right receivers and tight ends, and this offense can average 200 passing yards and 200 rushing yards next year, against most teams. Offensively, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

- Shameen Jones had a clutch TD on 4th and 28, beating double coverage. Maybe the best WR play of the year.

- Ryan was double covered most of the game, so this gave an opportunity to Aaron Cruickshank , who responded with 6 catches for 45 yards

- Aaron Young had a nice TD grab out of the backfield. This is what we’ve been missing most of the year

- Team rushed 44 times for 265 yards overall. Monangai rushed 24 times for 165 yards. Young rushed 5 times for 30 yards.

- Team let up 3 sacks while getting none

- Penalties were a killer, especially when you’re in a close game. 14 penalties for 108 yards vs MSUs 6 penalties for 50 yards. Defensively, we got caught with too many men on the field too many times.

- Avery Young and Tyreem Powell had their best games of the year, and ended up with 9 tackles

- Igbinosun also had his best game of the year, and ended up with 3 tackles and 1 TFL

- Wimsatt completed 20 of 34 passes for 236 yards and 2 TDS and most importantly 0 ints. If he can perform similarly well against Penn State and Maryland, we’ll be in great shape for next year.

- the end of first half playcalls was informed by experience. Schiano didn’t want a repeat of Louisville ‘05 where Mike Teel threw a pick 6, just before halftime. Don’t have a problem with this, especially because we were getting the ball to start the 2nd half

- Mike Higgins looked good out there in his first real action

- Jonny led all receivers with 73 receiving yards

- Jennings tried to go, but I guess he wasn’t effective, so he was replaced with JWC, who ended up with 8 tackles. JWC still learning the position, so defense loses a lot when Jennings isn’t in there

- We may not win again, but we have a chance to play exciting football these last two games

Winter Weather Advisories up for tonight in NWNJ/Poconos

Been talking about this in the RU-PSU gameday weather thread, but many seem to like separate threads for this type of thing, so here we go, since the forecast has gotten a tad colder/snowier/icier for NWNJ and NEPA and parts of the Hudson Valley, as winter weather advisories are up for Sussex/Warren in NJ and Carbon/Monroe in PA (Poconos) and Orange in NY (and N/W of those counties). The advisory in Warren mentions a potential light glaze of ice, but the advisory in the Poconos and Sussex mentions up to 0.2" of ice accretion, which would be a sheet of ice in many locations if it verifies (these counties mention up to 2" of snow also, although the forecast discussion says this is only really for the northern half of Warren). Outside of these areas under the advisories, i.e., the Lehigh Valley, NW Morris, NW Passaic, northern Hunterdon and the Hudson Valley, we may see 1/2-1" of snow on colder surfaces before a changeover to rain. Unlikely to see any flakes down to the 95 corridor or the coast, where 1/2-1" of rain will likely fall (and areas NW of 95, outside of the advisory areas will see mostly rain).

Wimsatt

He's not there yet but Wimsatt is encouraging. Gavin improved yesterday. Sure Michigan State isn't a great defense but it's still a P5 team. For the season Gavin has 4 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Simon has the same but with way less upside. Gio Resigno threw for over 200 yards twice and started like 15 games or something like that. Vedral started an entire season and threw 7 touchdowns. Art threw 4 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. The issue with Art was at the end of the season he was still throwing the same picks he threw week one. I'm not crowning Wimsatt and he still has a long way to go. However, its' the first time in a long time that I can say that a kid may be able to even be an average QB. When I saw Art and Lewis and Odin play, there was no hope that they would ever be good. At the end of the game, Gavin scored on Michigan State twice. One got called back and then he did it again. That's no small task. And while the Michigan game was terrible, I don't think we should write off that he competed with the Michigan D for a half. All the musical chairs, portal QB stuff can go away and we can actually have a QB1 going into next season for the first time in forever.

Best food at Jersey Mike's

The pretzel had me thinking that I should sample some of the food being offered. So last night I started with Popcorn for the People - Cookies and cream version. Screw the pretzel , this was like edible crack. Fan-freakin'-tastic. Go get some and it helps out a good cause.

On Saturday, I'll venture into pretzel land.
