Unbelievably USA Today thinks Northern Illinois, Temple, Marshall, Georgia Southern, UNC, Cincinnati, San Diego State, Pitt, Houston, Bowling Green, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, BYU, Houston, Arkansas State, Ball State, Colorado State, Boston College, East Carolina, Memphis Air Force, Navy, UCF, Western Michigan, Western Kentucky, Utah State, Toledo... are better than us.

I report the report, you decide.

We are 20 places below Temple, so does that mean if we played them this year they would be a 10+ point favorite?

There was a thread on PSU's board that talked about playing Temple and there was some concern about them due to their high number of returning starters, etc. Meanwhile, they don't seem all that worried about playing us.
Just sayin'

Pre season rankings mean squat. Every year rosters change, players step up, and players fall off. There is no way to convince any individual or publication has the depth of knowledge to slot every team without making major mistakes. Whether or not RU is one of them remains to be seen.

I disagree that pre-season rankings mean squat and I don't agree that this is a "good thing" so that we can "prove people wrong".

Actual poll voters during the season who don't pay attention to lesser known teams rely on the pre-season polls to set their mental baseline. What this poll means is that we could be 4-0 going into the MSU game and still have no votes in the top 25. Hell, we could beat MSU and be 6-0 going into the OSU game and still be unranked.

We won't be unranked if we beat a top 5 team. Nationally, most people still think of Rutgers as a Big East team, it will take time to change that POV. Nationally people were legit shocked that we went 8-5 last year for example.

He seemed to go overboard in sticking it to Power 5 teams who didn't either belong as legit Top 25 schools or were historical power teams (PSU, Michigan). Beyond Rutgers, look where he stuck Northwestern, Maryland, and the rest of the non-Top 25 B1G. Then look beyond to where he ranked Vanderbilt.

Guy's a buffoon.

And blew them the F out. We let them score a few during garbage time but the game wasn't even close.

The only reason they made Bowl game closer is because our Special Teams could not properly handle Two onside kicks in the last 5 minutes. This Rank Report is BS.

Thankfully the preseason top 25 doesn't mean anything anymore. The playoffs are ceded based on field performance and the bowl games are slotted pretty much based on performance. I don't care if the team isn't ranked if they win the first few games. Even if RU beats WSU, PSU, etc...don't see them beating MSU in early Oct and then the fun starts. So the ranking or non ranking isn't going to matter.

I'm not a huge optimist about this season, but this ranking proves how worthless pre season rankings really are. Not sure why I even clicked on it
