2021 - 2022 HS Season Thread

Couple of 160 Powerade finalists I’m hoping we’re putting the full court press to sign in Fea (BC) for next year and Norman (Blair) for year after. I was told Norman is cousin of SVN, though can’t vouch for that personally.

Fea beat Norman in the finals in OT.

Chletsos finished 7th

Went out there a few years ago when Frank Molinaro was at the Oklahoma RTC(very close with Frank as he was one of ShoreThings first student). Developed a relationship with Lou Roselli and really loved it out there.
Thanks, that makes a lot of sense then. Good luck to him.

Surprised santaniello not navy too. Last year he lost by a lot to Cruz who also going to Oklahoma

Would love to see some activity for RU in terms of 2023 recruits. It’s been far too quiet. Usually something has happened by now.
It does seem that a lot of 2023ers have/are committing. Slow start, hopefully strong finish, I guess.

Anyone know if Casale is wrestling this high school season? He hasn't appeared in any of the 5 Passaic Valley matches so far this year.

He is certified. I was told he transferred without moving, so needs to sit out 30 days.
I thought it might be something like that, but I also thought he left Delbarton at the end of October/beginning of November so he would be well beyond the 30 days now unless that clock starts when the season begins. With that being said, I'm really not up to date on all of the rules\regulations these days so that might be the case.

Clock starts for each sport you participate as a varsity athlete. And it is 30 days from first day of competition, so his wrestling clock starts Dec 17th.

Worth noting Delbarton could waive the 30 days if asked. Don’t know why schools never do this, even public. If it’s really about the kids then let them play.

That is not true. It is an automatic 30 day sit without a bona fide change of address.

CL 1: Since the minimal thirty (30) days or one half the maximum number of games allowed in a sport by NJSIAA rules ineligibility period (whichever is less) is intended to serve as a deterrent for students transferring from one school to another without a bona fide parental/guardian change of residence and is recognized as one of the most lenient penalties in the United States, appeals will not be heard, regardless of reason. For sports which have a maximum participation limitation, the NJSIAA maximum (half the maximum) will be used to determine the sit out period. For sports that do not have a maximum number of contests allowed by rule, the sit out period will be 30 days from the beginning of the regular varsity season or half of the games/meets/matches/events scheduled at the beginning of that school’s sport season. Only games played may be counted.

I’ve coached high school teams in the past and at one point there were waiver options for the 30 day sit out. I’m not positive if it has since changed or if there were technicalities involved like private vs perochial or level of competition but I know of at least two kids that we’re able transfer without penalty because my district waived the sit out. The two examples in my experience were both JV kids that were moving in with another relative in a different district and I don’t think it was considered a legitimate move or if the fact they didn’t see varsity time had something to do with it

Correct, sub-varsity athletes do not have to sit even today. For varsity athletes it is automatic 30 day sit without address change.

It may be related to why he was dismissed from Delbarton and why Lehigh pulled their offer. He is a teenager and hopefully will mature.

For what it’s worth that’s an NJ based company
Yup. They work with and support the wrestling program, AA has a meal named after him, a few other of our wrestlers have a relationship with them, and they are supporters of Elite as well.

I know they support/sponsor other non-RU local athletes as well but every little bit helps (hopefully).

Has PJ Casale wrestled yet this season? I believe he had to sit out 30 days because he transferred to Passaic Valley. I have not found any matches yet, but I would think the 30 days are past or close at this point.

I think he is eligible to compete starting on or after 1/17/22

Speaking of guys not wrestling, anyone know what's up with Luke Gayer? I noticed he didn't wrestle at Doc B last week nor is he at Battle for the Belt this weekend with his team. I'm guessing he's injured as well but it sucks that he is missing the biggest tournaments of his season.

Chletsos is the semifinals at Escape the Rock and will wrestle #23 Spencer Barnhart tomorrow.

Saw Michael Dellagatta in finals. He’s another one from that strong in state group in the 65-75 range I hope we’re locking in future talent

Definitely. He has a good matchup against #9 Rune Lawrence so let’s see how he does against a top 10 opponent at 170.
