2022-23 Transfer Watch

Help me out with limited spots for new players. By my count we still have 3 schollies available and 3 2021-22 starters gone with no obvious players on the roster today who can fill the PPG or defense that those 3 starters provided.

What's limited? If there was ever a time to sell top tier new players w the currency they value it's this year.
Okay I will be more direct. I think Toussaint doesn't bring as much to the table as other names in the portal. Limited scoring, poor outside shooter. I want us to aim higher.

Not meant as a reply to your comment but to the thread in general and the tone of pessimism about recruiting transfers like from Niagara, Lafayette, etc., and that Rutgers shouldn't be considered a desirable destination.
Yeaaa well there is a certain segment of the board that's just negative about everything no matter what. Rutgers is obviously a pretty attractive destination this cycle... plenty of minutes and shots to offer. Potential starting spot and focal point of the offense in the B1G.

Not sure it means no interest. I’m guessing more than a handful of teams reached out. Probably his top 7 preferred options
Ok. I'll buy that if true. Guess disappointed either way but rather it be the latter scenario vs. us not engaging.

A confident HC would never defer to an AD. A good AD would never butt in like that.
I was very surprised when it was reported that Ash was overlooking out of state recruiting to focus on NJ because the word came down from the AD to do so. I think I have that right. Or was it flood? Either way, really surprising. I'd be shocked though if someone with Pike's credibility and job security was taking garbage direction like that.

Guys let me just add this pov. If our $4mm per year bball coach can't bring in a significant class then we have yet more issues we're locked into.
Not saying that's the case but he's being paid handsomely and needs to deliver.
Like you I was hoping for a national championship last year and this one, but I don't know any college basketball fan that doesn't think that Pike has "delivered".

50/50 chance it's completely innaccurate regadless

"Delivering" is something that is done on the court not in recruiting rankings or message boards.

Lol. You're in an exaggeration mode today, huh. Ok.

Lol. Ok, recruiting is so over rated. Wow. Just wow.

Anyone have a running tab of subtractions by team in the Big Ten? Ivey, Davis, and Murray all going pro now

I'm still waiting to see a list of transfers that are interested in Rutgers versus listing transfers that don't mention Rutgers.Reading the latter is rather depressing.
If anything that should be encouraging, we have guys we are after and aren’t just throwing offers everywhere

Wins and post seasons matter. Nothing else.
This is true. But let's stop pretending getting quality B1G type players doesn't matter. If it's solely about getting average players and then coaching the crap out of them we never needed to spend $125mm on the APC. We could have just paid a coach $7.5mm instead.

Hey..I remember making that argument. Thanks!

Quality is in the eye of the beholder. Wins and post seasons are the ONLY thing that matters. We all see how paying less for coach works so stop that BS. Dont try to be a recruiting expert. You’re not one and neither am I.

Pike should be praised for his efforts. You act like this stuff is easy, especially at a university that has had very little success.

Realistically, until Pike misses the dance, he has earned himself a long leash at this point.

1. Give me a break. WHERE did I EVER say we should pay him less?
2. Where did I ever say I was one? That's HIS job and what he's getting paid well for. Very well.
3. Very little success. Well let's see now 2 plus one de facto NCAA trips last 3 years.
OK that's 3 strikes in one post. You're out!

I’m being patient but there’s no way to spin what has happened thus far as positive. You can say neutral because none of these guys have committed yet and we haven’t filled out our roster. And, you can say negative because we either (a) aren’t going after players that would make us better or (b) none of them are interested. But, positive, nope.

One thing we have all learned with Pike is that most of Rutgers hoops recruiting is performed in a stealth like atmosphere. I have heard of several players we are in contact with and still have us on their lists. Every team has a list of candidates and rates them. It just depends how far down you have to go on the list to fulfill your needs. There are other players out there beside the portal entrants that they are in contact with that would see significant floor time next year. Our main problem is quality depth.

I cannot understand guys still ripping Pikiell on recruiting. He knows more than any of us and has proved it by how much he has improved our team in a pretty quick amount of time. He knows who will fit and who will not. Would you guys like us to go back to the Jordan, Rice and Hill days? Steve took over a team rated # 279 and now we are so much respected in D-1 basketball. We have finished at least .500 for three straight seasons in the BIG 10. We were a laughing stock of college basketball and barely won a game in the BIG 10 when Eddie was our coach. Most people thought a turnaround might not take place but Steve has done it. I certainly don't want to go back to those disaster years once again. How quickly many forget when the RAC was only getting 3-4K people at our games.
