2022-23 Transfer Watch

If we’re trending off Quinn, would like to see us go after this guy
One of my top Portal wants. Perfect 1 of 2 year center. He knows how to score in the paint and has done it against B1G competition. When he enters games he looks to score, Period ! Scored 9 ppg in 17 minutes per game. That's 21 per 40 minutes. Also from Jersey.

As I mentioned earlier, curious if Jersey guy Zach Freemantle enters. Especially with them getting a new coach who may want to play a different style.

More like most teams that were overrated.
If you are just going by tournament results, isn't that the SEC this year?

#6 seed Alabama: lost to #11 Notre Dame, 0-1
#6 seed LSU: lost to #11 Iowa State, 0-1
#3 seed Tennessee: beat #14 Longwood, lost to #11 Michigan, 1-1
#2 seed Auburn: beat #15 Jacksonville State, lost to #10 Miami, 1-1
#2 seed Kentucky: lost to #15 St. Peter's, 0-1
#4 seed Arkansas: still kicking, beat #13 Vermont and #12 New Mexico State, 2-0

By the seeding, they should have four teams playing tonight tomorrow. Whoops, only one.
Overall record of the conference, 4-5.
Seeds they have defeated: #14, #15, #13, and #12. NOBODY seeded better than 12? Yikes.

If Gonzaga eliminates Arkansas tonight, it is clear the SEC was the biggest underachieving conference in the Big Dance relative to seeding (aka expectations).

Big 10 is 9-7 with two teams remaining (3 seed & 11 seed)*
SEC is 4-5 with one team remaining (4 seed)
Big East is 5-4 with two teams remaining (2 seed)

* Includes two first four games

The Big 12 has far and away performed the best in this tournament. Have no idea what their record is but the eye test tells me so. Also the ACC has done well as much as it pains me to say it. I would put both those conferences ahead of the three you mentioned by a wide margin.

Just my opinion. This transfer Portal thread is getting off track.

Single game elimination tournaments are pretty much the worst way to determine which team or conference is better. Sure its entertaining for fans because of the thrill of living on the edge of elimination - but in reality its all about making money and not choosing the most appropriate National Champion. If Kentucky played St. Peters in a 7 Game Playoff Series - who would you put your money on to win the series?

Top to bottom the B1G is the best conference. By far the deepest. It just depends how you define "best". If Gonzaga wins it, does that mean WCC is the best conference? No, obviously not.

Friars would finish maybe 10th or so in B1G

You obviously know nothing about basketball if you think they would finish 10th in an overrated conference. They are now in the final 16 of the country. Let that sink in.

Yep. So at least one side has cooled on the other.
Seems that way but never know. Feel like we’ve been in a lot of articles as one of the “recruiting hardest” teams and come out on the wrong end so who knows.

If it’s because we’re going after Washington or Young, no complaints here.

This guy did absolutely nothing in two years at WVU and was actively bad when he did play... but I know Rutgers recruited him pretty hard.

I don't see him as a fit right now. During that recruiting cycle, RU lost Coleman Hawkins to Illinois and Cottrell to WVU. Got Reiber in that spot. The other two went for the money.

He had a torn Achilles 10 games into his freshmen year. Year 2 is probably not a good guage due to the injury. He was probably not near 100%.

Agree. He would be a great addition but I imagine he’ll be in demand.
I have a feeling he is picking a good academic school, which may work in our favor. Kid isn’t leaving Northwestern after 3 years to go to West Virginia or Liberty. Unless he already got his degree, then he may not care as much

A quick guard that can shoot (Sessoms or Hammond), a perimeter player that can shoot (Wright) and a Big (Quinn).
Wonder if there’s more, possibly including more wings, as some of these guys have been in the portal for a bit and we are now hearing about Rutgers interest
