BACATOLOGY: NCAA ANALYSIS 2/14 UPDATE 2/19 ON PAGE 17

he has San Fran a 9 and overvaluing the AAC, its inconsistent because Houston is 4 in the NET and they are not a 1 seed, so obviously he is adjusting for that , yet he isnt doing it for RU

remember even Joe and Jerry have RU ahead of last 4 in.

Question on the Michigan at Iowa game. I get it that we beat both but are we absolutely sure we want Iowa to win? Chances are we will lose at Michigan but don’t we also want our victory over them to be quad 1 for our resume? Or are you concerned that it might mind up with only us or Michigan going to the NCAAs? Or course if Michigan wins tonight and we sweep them, I would think it would be the best scenario. My gut tells me to root for Iowa since we beat them and don’t play them again but I’m looking for confirmation this is correct.

Rutgers works its way into field of 68

Speaking of Rutgers, the Scarlet Knights have been on a remarkable run and are in the bracket for now as a No. 11 seed. It remains to be seen if they can finish the job.

Rutgers' season reminds me of Wisconsin in 2015-16. Greg Gard took over in mid-December as an interim coach after the retirement of Bo Ryan. The Badgers were struggling then and continued to do so until they went on a tremendous run to finish the season. Wisconsin won 11 of 13 and ended up third in the Big Ten. The Badgers overcame a whopping five Quad 3-4 losses to find a spot in the field. They also had six Quad 1 wins, with three coming on the road.

Back then, the term "quadrant" was not in use and the RPI was the metric of choice for the NCAA, so things are a little different.

Saw your back and forth with wachtel. It sucks but its hard to disagree with him. Hes always top 10 most accurate and its not like its his opinion its what he believes the committee will do. And he frankly almost always nails it
NET hasn’t been around long enough to say for sure how married to it the committee will be with seeding. I’m not a fan of MOV, but it’s really the blended methodology of the quad system that bothers me the most about it. They are triple dipping on the imporatance of the road victory metric unless the road win came against one of the top 30 teams. In that case - it counts the same (Q1) as winning at home would. Does that make any sense at all? Winning at Vermont counts the same as winning at Kansas. Oh but beating Kansas at home counts the same as beating them on the road too. Of course - losing to Maryland doesn’t count the same at home vs. on the road. It’s so inconsistent.

Bac, do you think all the back end B1G schools can get in? Iowa Indiana Rutgers Michigan

Or does at least one get left out?
I know you didn't ask me, but I won't be surprised if Michigan or Indiana play themselves out of the tournament if we beat either/both and lock up our ticket.

Indiana:
at Ohio State
Maryland
at Minnesota
Rutgers
at Purdue

If we do win, they are likely 18-12 (9-11 B1G) at best. 2-6 in Q1 right now, so that would be 2-8 if they lose at the two ranked teams. Their resume would hinge on a home wins over Purdue and Ohio State. That's about it.

Michigan:
at Iowa
at Wisconsin
Rutgers
Illinois
Michigan State
Iowa
at Ohio State

Four ranked teams, one scarlet-hot Rutgers team, two games against a team capable of going off on offense. Four games in eight days at the end of the season could lead to tired legs, too. They are 13-10 so they need to go at least 4-3 to finish 17-13 IMO. (16-14 just looks too close to .500 to feel safe.) The Wolverine optimist would say this gives them a similar opportunity to the one we are taking advantage of now.

The 8/9 game in the B1G could easily be two of the teams in your trio playing a de facto play-in game.

It’s pretty simple - we’re a bubble team. When another bubble team plays a non-bubble team, you gotta root for the non-bubble team.

Rutgers until yesterday was not even considered a Q1 win on the road or a Q2 at home..wow...so just saying a team has 7 or 8 Q1 and 2 wins is meaningless. There is a difference from wins over Santa Clara and Fresno State and Michigan and Ohio State

Michigan will be a Quad 1 opportunity on the road for RU, at home its currently a Q2 win

the chances of Iowa dropping the field are pretty slim at this point, the more they win the better it looks for RU

Ahh too bad! We could have caught one of these games together! Lmk next time I'd grab a beer and talk Rutgers for sure. My friends are tired of hearing me talk about RU 🤣

🤣 jersey pick up ball is the best!

Year round outdoor pickup ball with palm trees and a sunset is amazing though
Not to jack the thread but might be going to San Diego next month. Haven't been in about 15 years. Best place to stay still Gaslamp and if so how much is walkable from there?

I agree. The only counter to that is since we play Michigan twice - we get more of a relative SOS boost when they win vs. Iowa. But I agree - still better for us for Iowa to win.

You're picking Michigan to upset the B1G juggernaut that is Rutgers?

Yea, gaslamp is the happening downtown city area and mostly everything in the "city" area is walkable. Might want to take a short uber to little Italy if you go there. SD has tons of other areas to check out like beach towns of Coranado pacific Beach Ocean beach etc

Since covid they have blocked off the streets in gaslamp and let restaurants and bars expand into the streets which is pretty cool

the issue is that RU has several of these losses to not terrible but not good schools and thats another reason why the net struggles
The NET appears to credit bad losses much more than great wins. how else to explain Iowa’s 19 ranking despite being winless against both Quad 1 and nationally rank teams. Stupid system!

Jerry Palm is just upset that the thing he made his prognostication career off of is no longer being used and he feels about useful as a Commodore 64 in 2022.

Palm created the rpi....actually he didnt create it but he was instrumental in promoting and copying what the system the ncaa used, so he is pretty mad about that being taken away from him by the ncaa

North Texas-FAU tied at halftime. Almost all of the bigger games tip now or later. (Michigan-Iowa the exception)

Oregon ASU game is tough to watch currently. Not easy on the eyes & Walton has a case of verbal diarrhea. Such a PAC10 homer & seemingly to have lost it in terms of basketball IQ. Used to be a decent to good listen, not sure I will be able to last to the end.

We stayed at the Springhill Suites on Harbor Drive right across the street from the Midway. I can recommend it for the value, location, service, and outstanding buffet breakfast included. Cool place on the 5th floor to hang out, have a cocktail and watch the sunset. Parking is expensive. We walked to Gaslamp section which is about a mile away.

Walton needs to shut up for 30 seconds please!!
He's used the phrase "Conference of Champions" at least a half dozen time in the first half.
The irony being that the PAC 10/12 hasn't won an NCAA basketball championship in 25 years!

Big East refs appear to have been instructed to not call a single foul on Creighton.
