Back in 2016 I wanted us to consider kelvin sampson

Kinda crazy we are facing him tomorrow in the biggest game in 38 years . Just 5 years he was actually on my radar for the rutgers job . I am thrilled with pike , but obviously Sampson would have been a great choice as well .

I must say my greatest moments as far as knowing what I am talking about on this board in chronological order :

Sampson would never consider rutgers. Job sucks. He can go to NCAA tournament every year at houston have better facilities, better pay, better weather and no state income tax.

I always try to look at the possibilities that a new coach can bring us where we want to go. When the candidates were made known Ash was the one I wanted least. But when it became obvious he was going to get the job I put on the scarlet covered glasses and tried to look at his potential. You looked at it more subjectively but I figured. hey we are stuck with this guy, might as well hold out hope he can get it done.

i was reading another message board and totally forget that Pat Kelsey was hired at umass back in 2017-2018. When Kelsey arrived on campus players started asking about their "money." Kelsey then quit before his press conference. A couple players transferred assuming they didnt get their money. those two players transferred to the same place.....

Plum you are 100% correct. Have we done so much over the years where we shouldn’t have even considered Sampson ? There are certainly more evil choices than him being at Rutgers.I like Pike but this, “we are better than that attitude “ is why we were non existent for 30 seasons at the NCAA tourney. Doesn’t everyone deserve a second chance? That’s all that comes across the news daily. Waiting for the next to tell us we are the “ stupidest” poster on here .

Sampson got in trouble for some stupid phone calls at Indiana. But his problems there were far worse. Eric Gordon (his star player) said they had kids on the team dealing drugs and many were flunking out of class.

I have long said he was a great coach. I mean helps to get the easiest draw in tournament history, but he knows how to win games.

The last part doesn’t matter in big time college basketball . It’s sleazy . Guy has great resume and now has taken 2 schools to the final 4. But we are too good
