Negligent towards athletics for so many years. He's as much to blame for this as Flood and Julie.

Hate to say it, but he's gotta go..too.

The Athletic Department was an absolute mess for years under Barchi. Hobbs, Ash and Pikiell seem like they're cleaning it up.

He knows he screwed up big time, imo..which is why he immediately reached out to Hobbs. He's as much to blame than anyone else.

The allegation with drug testing date back to Pernetti. I know the ADs are in charge but it looks like whoever was in charge of the drug testing is the culprit here

Im not a fan of Barchi but the majority of this stuff isnt new news and we have moved on with a new AD and coaching staff

The glaring gap in Barchi's resume was managing big time athletics. He should never have approved Julie H., but the BoG should also have noted and accommodated his inexperience here. It simply would have taken appointing an experienced Veep to keep a hawk-like watch on the program. RB learns fast, and he's been excellent since shitcanning JH and KF. But we lost a lot in those first 3 years...

Tell that to the NCAA.

Not sure what Barchi had to do this.

This was under Pernetti, JH, and Flood all of whom were justifiably canned.

A President of a B1G school doesn't go around asking players to pee in a cup. Come on.

Wow. University presidents don't get fired over stuff like this. It still amazes me when I see such an imbalanced response to something going wrong--there's blood in the water, hang everyone whose name comes up!!

Barchi was hired to merge the med school with the university, and I think they are satisfied with it. Getting rid of the relatively new president because a level 2 violation in athletics is being investigated (nothing confirmed, mind you), isn't grounds to relieve Barchi from his position. The collateral damage from that would be far greater than whatever comes down the line from the NCAA.

He was President during this. It starts with him.

You should hate to say it...because it sounds really stupid.

I know you love the media and all, but everything is not a big dramatic event. This is small time stuff, that has been known for a long time. The school knew this was coming since before Flood was even fired.

Not dramatic, correct..but extremely embarrassing to our program.

Why is it extremely embarrassing? It happens all the time. Nothing on the NOA is serious -- or even new for that matter. I was way, way more embarrassed coming to work after some of the beatings we took this year. I don't care one lick about this, because I know the school dealt with it in the right way.

I see people are still trying to win the stupidest thread of the award.

The Athelics department was a joke until Barchi decided to clean it up.

TP hired Flood and MR. Barchi fired all three. A committee hired JH, Brachi fired her as well.

The lesson he learn is that if you want something done right you have to do it yourself, so he hired Pat Hobbs himself. Hobbs has done an amazing job cleaning up the AD and hiring good coaches for Football and basketball. Raising a TON of money all in a single year.

If it wasn't for Barchi, none of that would have happen.

And in some kind of twisted, face-saving maneuver you want the University President to step down or be fired? Ever wonder why you never made upper management?

No it doesn't. Which schools have gotten hit with a NOA recently? Not many. Not sure where this statement comes from.

Nothing on the NOA is serious -- or even new for that matter.

Nothing is new. Not my point. Most happened during the Flood/Hermann era..with, Barchi overlooking. Nothing serious? Lots of "Level II" stuff, which is MAJOR, according to NCAA. Hopefully not too major, but we'll see.

I was way, way more embarrassed coming to work after some of the beatings we took this year. I don't care one lick about this, because I know the school dealt with it in the right way.

Fair enough. But anytime Rutgers is laughingstock, on or off the field..its very embarrassing to me.

So he made a bad hire in Julie, rectified it by making a great hire in Hobbs, and he should be fired? One strike and you are out?

Just settle down. There are dozens of schools being investigated at all times. Nearly every school has been found guilty of a major violation at some time or another.

You shouldn't be embarrassed because someone else didn't do their job. You should be embarrassed if you school is like PSU or UNC and covers it up, and generally does the wrong thing. Rutgers did the right thing. They fired the bad actors, and fixed the processes to ensure it wouldn't happen again.

This is the same reason Barchi would never be blamed for this. He did not directly oversee the programs in which there were issues, Julie did, and she was fired. Barchi did his job. Why you think he deserves any blame for this is totally beyond me.

You do realize that he was appointed to the office of President on September 1, 2012 only slightly over 4 years ago - (there has been a HUGE amount on his plate)
and at the time it was made emphatically clear to him that his First, his Second and his Third priority was - integrate the Medical School monstrosity into the University. While the athletic program - like everything else - does fall under his authority - Athletics at that point were far far from the top of his priority list - and that was by virtue of the direction that he was given when he took the position.

Barchi's hiring was roughly eight months after Flood was hired by Tim Pernetti to replace Schiano On January 31, 2012, so the Flood mess was a ball of crap that he inherited

In April 2013 the whole video thing took down Pernetti - for actions / decisions that happened in November of 2012 - lay some blame on the newly arrived Barchi - lay big time blame on the HR / Legal advisors who recommended nothing harsher than a suspension & behavior classes - and advised that terminating Rice would be ill-considered.

In what seemed like a decent move at the time - Barchi hired Jordan - but the Basketball program that needed to repair itself & grow received little in the way of resources ... and Jordan proved to clearly not be a good match for what the program needed.

Julie Hermann was hired at Rutgers in May 2013.... via what was supposed to be a broad based 'collective decision making process' give Barchi small credit for trying to make it a collective process - give him big blame because it did not work - turns out the process was dysfunctional & the outcome was unsatisfactory. - resulting in Hermann being booted

November 29, 2015 - Rutgers University President Robert L. Barchi fired Julie Hermann

November 29, 2015 - Rutgers University President Robert L. Barchi fired Kyle Flood as Rutgers football coach

November 29, 2015 Rutgers University President Robert L. Barchi (elected to exercise his Presidential prerogative & forgo the "collective-decision making" mess) acted swiftly to named Hobbs as the permanent athletic director -

so it looks like the past year has been on the upswing - Hobbs found Ash ... Hobbs terminated Jordan and has found a a far better fit in Pikiell

Basically it was about 2 1/2 years that "The Athletic Department was an absolute mess for years under Barchi." ... and now for a year it has been looking a lot better ...

so now that Barchi has progress through a significant portions of what he was brought in four years ago to do ... and has taken very significant steps to get the athletic programs headed in an upward direction .. has weather much of the initial stages of joining the B1G .... you want the University President - who has a multitude of non-athletic priorities - you want him fired because, even-though things are beginning to look up - and even though he has to get credit for making decisions that set this new course - you don't like how things went during that dark period - so you now want him fired for not doing a good enough job guiding the athletic program ? fired for what ? retribution?

Agree to disagree with you here Mike. Barchi has done a complete 180 with Hobbs as AD and is working tirelessly to get our academic reputation back to where it was in the 80s and 90s.

That's fine. Just my opinion...and I'm not the only one with this opinion.

Those of us saying this isn't a big deal..fine. just don't want to hear u complain about what the ncaa does to us.

Pretty funny how everyone is blaming Julie here when Tim p hired flood, typical Caliknight and his gay bashing ! Sad !
Well you have to admit this was a purely agenda driven hire. WE DID IT! Is that Kate I saw sitting in the corner at the latest Board of Trustees meeting.

Even if there are NCAA penalties, that does not mean that Barchi should take a big hit.

Fair enough. I think he should. And I've been saying this since he refused to watch the rice video..and everyone took the fall but him. (Imo, no one should have went). But since they overreacted, they all should have.

This is such a reach. Barchi has been very good for RU overall.

I fully agree with giving flack to Barchi for mishandling athletics in his initial years...

...But we should remember that the other half of his job is academics and he has done a STELLAR job with that. RU's academic reputation is charting higher and higher with each passing year, our Honors program has undergone major changes to keep the top academic talent in state, the campus itself has changed dramatically in the last 3 years and nearly every single top corporation recruits on our campus now.

More like the other 90%.

If Barchi is to blame for this, then why the heck are we paying $500,000/year to Athletic Directors?!

This is on Pernetti and Hermann ... period. You can't expect one person to micro-manage an institution this size of Rutgers. That's why you have highly-paid Chancellors, Deans and Directors.

And, I hate to say it because he bleeds Scarlet, but Tim was a complete disaster as an AD. Hiring Rice and Flood set both programs back 10 years at least.

And Barchi didn't hire Hermann. That was the result of a the board of governors creating a search committee that was tasked with finding the most politically correct candidate possible in light of the Rice and Tyler Clementi episodes. Barchi's role was to provide the rubber stamp.

were you not the big Herman backer here?? She ran the athletic department like Jurich does in Louisville..dirty..shes at fault as much as Flood.

I agree with your point on academics but I think it is far greater than "the other half".

This goes well beyond drug testing. This was a compete failure within the athletic department..mostly the football team.

Again, the fact Barchi let this go on under his watch makes him a culprit as well.
