The majority of those on this board only wanted Schiano so I would say the answer is no.

I’d be completely fine with Butch Jones...compared to the current whirlwind of shit we are in the middle of...it would seem like Urban

I would put my pitch fork away but I'm not buying season tickets until he shows he has a decent recruiting class.
The biggest issue is that Schiano knows NJ and is respected. There is no needing proof that he can win at RU, maybe not a B1G championship. So I think he would start immediately getting lower level P5 prospects.
I hear Butch Jones is a good recruiter but he would have to start building relationships when he gets here and I don't think he would be as quick to get off the ground as Schiano would.

Here's the thing - please tell me why it took 3+ weeks to determine that the length of the contract was a deal breaker == that is absolute neglect in negotiating a contract - On Nov 1 - if RU said we will not do a contract that long and moved on, Schiano could have caved or we could have been working realistic candidates. If Butch Jones emerged - good for him. Now it is nothing but ass covering from a total clusterf.
So I would have been fine with Butch - now I am just unbelievable angered by Pat Hobbs and Greg Brown's horrendous handling of all this. Really sad
What’s particularly impressive about his resume?
He inherited a top-MAC team with one of the conference’s all-time great quarterbacks at CMU from Brian Kelly. While Jones held steady for three years (with the same QB), he left when that qb graduated, and handed the next guy a 3-9 team.
He inherited a top-10 Cinci team from Brian Kelly; put up two 10 win seasons (after going 4-8 in the first) then left.
Neither example proves he can build a program, which he’d have to do here.
At Tennessee, where he certainly didn’t inherit Rutgers’ situation, he reached a point where he was beating teams Tennessee should beat, and losing to the elites. Then went backwards and started losing to the teams Tennessee should beat. His final squad went 0 for the SEC season, and should have lost to UMass.
So what qualifies him for this job again.
I agree this all should have come to a head within a week of their meeting in Chicago, but in fairness, the nj.com article said that the ask from Schiano went from 6 years to 8 years this past Tuesday.

IF he had the same financial support for assistants that GS was promised and was able to hire both Camps and Brown, and a plan for facilities upgrades, then yes. Certainly better than what’s been going on the last 4 years.
I think we can all pretty much agree that there isn't much on this roster to work with. We need a great recruiter who has connections, both in and out of state, to get this program rebuilt. Forget about being a good coach in the short term. Butch may be a good coach but he's not building Rutgers up from the ruins. Have you seen the guy? He's got slightly more charisma than Moorehead who has negative 10.

Barchi's statement means its over - they will move quickly to make the hire so Hobbs can maintain his saftey

Did butch Jones show any of the preparedness or initiative that GS did before his interview with Hobbs? He was interviewed before GS. Does he have a roster breakdown and dosie of 100 kids that he has been already recruiting from the transfer portal? Did he request any changes at RU to help put him on an even playing field with our B10 counterparts?
If he didn't, I would look at him the same way as I do Ash. He would take this job for the paycheck, but he does not expect to turn things around.

Because they said no to a new Hale center and wouldn't even put the field house in writing. Greg seemed willing to accept that, but upped the contract demands to help offset the lack of financial commitment. Not hard to understand

No he showed them the 2 Big East title Rings he won while only coaching 3 years in the league. Something Schiano never accomplished in 11 years in League.
What did he do his third year at Cincinnati after Chip Key's recruits started graduating or leaving. What did he do his last year at Tennessee? That was real bad. It seems that he is able to win with another good coaches product, but when they aren't around anymore he has struggled. He did not recruit at Cincinnati that well, but he did at Tennessee for a couple of years. Can he recruit at a school that is not a household name or considered a blue blood?
I think that Jones is a good coach but how he finished off his last SHORT stints as an HC gives me doubts. Everything was in place for him to win there

Theirs seriously someone in here downplaying Butch's accomplishments. I don't care how you spin it. When a coach has won at every stop, and won 4 conf tities & two 9 win seasons in Sec - he deserves respect for it. No is saying he's great- but he's a proven winning coach. If you argue that he won following another coach -- then you have to reason why Greg didn't win- following his own damn self for 11 years. Stop downplaying good coaches - just because you a want different guy
