I genuinely enjoyed getting to know and cover McConnell during his time at Rutgers. Probably my favorite player since I started covering the team. He's a guy who understands the opportunity he had and never took it for granted. He fought through everything and anything.
He was crying so hard in the press conference room at the NCAA Tournament in Dayton last year after the ND game. I wished he would come back and give it another go and he did. He deserves a great applause on Sunday.
