We do have a shot and the maturation will need to be steep just to upset Washington. That is a linchpin to our early success. Team bonding with a win will carry BELIEF thru the season. Even a close game yes will be a moral/mental victory. As the next two games should boost the team's play as well.

9/10 Howard <win Yes
9/17 New Mexico < if we are jelling with some rhythm on O, absolute. The D will rule NMU
9/24 Iowa< big challenge but lost many from the Western Champs team. They play very disciplined ball. Rutgers advantage it is home and if we do upset Washington adrenaline will be high. And lastly it is statistically probable; as we have never played them before and our first time playing a team is like ~+70% . How can I use that, well look at Princeton, Penn State, and Michigan beat them in first meetings and then not so well.
10/8 Michigan < We won the first time but I feel they may be our new "Princeton" this would be a major upset. Coach Ash will need a great game plan and game-day adjustments and be aggressive
10/15 Illinois < next to Harbough/Meyer, Lovie Smith could be the next best coach to go against but as it is his first year we have a more even playing field but Wes Lunt will challenge our growing secondary and by mid Oct. I am hoping they will keep us in the game
11/05 Indiana< This will most likely help determine if we can make it to a bowl game. Much incentive for all
11/19 State Penn< do we need more incentive Likely a bowl bid will be on the line but it is Home and we all remember the last minute comeback they needed at our last home game. here the fans will help

The Rutgers Als will agree but the angry grumpy RU haters will give us 4-5 loses. And to be honest if this was last years staff I might agree. New blood bring new spirit and it is not like the cupboard is bare, just some hole need to be filled. Like Vince use to say, ....."College football is 20% talent 80% desire"
We all Desire an uplifting season.

I just can't see running the Iowa, Michigan, PSU troika. Any one of those games, possible. All 3, highly dubious. With disciplined football and a reasonable injury situation the others are doable.

I think 4/ 3 is realistic and 5/2 a possibility but running the table might be in the realm of "I am a fan and I believe we will win them all, just because" territory. My 4/3 realistic belief is based on the fact that I believe, unlike many posters who hate Flood so much they are projecting their feelings on the players, that there is more talent in the program than many think.

From an outsider's perspective:

Howard and New Mexico you can write in as wins.
Iowa and Michigan are most likely losses.
Penn State will be a tough game to win.
Illinois and Indiana are toss-ups.

I think a 3-4 home record would be a safe prediction, with 4-3 a possibility.

The OP is clearly trolling.

Do you the think the Michigan team is anything like tge Michigan team from 2014?

Flip a coin between 4-3 or 3-4. Maybe 1 , or 2 tops , road wins. 6 wins and a bowl would be a terrific achievement.

Talent wise, yes. Coaching is the big difference there, but our coaching had improved likewise. We still have to see how Ash function had a game manager but we won't know until that till the season starts.

It is such unbridled enthusiasm by the OP (read stupidity) that makes this board such a pleasure and a joke.

Anything less than 4-3 will be hugely disappointing but I could see it happening. I'm having trouble finding 2 road wins, though.

"hugely"? Really? As of today I've got:

Howard - W
New Mexico - Tossup (sorry, but it is for now...)
Iowa - L
Michigan - L
Illinois - T (follows Iowa/OSU/Mich)
Indiana - T
PSU - L (but if we stay healthy this becomes a "Tossup" IMHO)

...so I'm going with:

3 wins - expected
4 wins - good job
5 wins - very good job
6 wins - we got the next "star"
7 wins - Bowl Party in Tampa

Is the party in Ybor City?

Don't mind them OP. If everything breaks right, I can see us winning 5 out of the seven home games. As always, people put a lot of stock in the prior year. Are we going to have issues? Sure. But I think the defense alone will be much improved. The offense seems to be a work in progress still but when it clicks - according to those who have seen it - says it is very very fast. Think Oregon O. This is a team that is going to surprise a lot of people, IMHO.

Don't sleep on New Mexico. Real Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde team.

Most here still wear the Rutgers past, it's hard to shake and in truth we potentially have a unique opportunity to see a Houston type of flip. 5-6 to 11-1 (yea the AAC is not B10-E), but a 8-4 would be an optimistic but possible. Will it happen TBD. but even some post put 3 of the homes B10 games as possible toss up, that is optimistic.
Trolling yes I wanted to express a potential that if he has the skill set Coach Ash can do it.
as a RU die hard yes I am looking for the pre-spring game attitude and it is spelled out as expected.
I hope some will revise their view come the fall.

This is right on. Let's not forget that on top of all of the issues with personnel, this team will be learning an entirely new system. That almost never occurs without a step back the first season.

6 wins would be an excellent season, given how difficult the road schedule looks. Getting to 5 wins would be nice as it would at least mark an improvement over the prior year.

fyi - that's home games only; road schedule I'm setting the "expected" win total at 1 for now (Wash/OSU/MSU/Minny/Maryland)

Our head coach just said yesterday without saying it, "this teams a mess". Wait he did say that about the MLB.

Look, I'm not even going to really predict wins and losses. This is a complete rebuilding year and Ash needs 3 years to get this train running again and pick up Floods damage. I would be happy as hell with 5 wins this season.

Fair enough. I haven't looked into New Mexico at all; you'd know more with them being on your schedule.

Team that got a lot better last year, under Bob Davie, and I do NOT like playing so early in the season. Finished just 9 places behind RU (98) in last year's Sagarin ratings at 107th.

Agree. 4-3/3-4 are realistic, 5-2 is a stretch, 6-1 is a fantasy and 7-0 is being double-teamed by Kate Beckinsale and Rachel McAdams on a regular basis - that last one is for @mildone, who would only last partway through the first session before achieving nirvana and death, simultaneously.

I'd wear 'em both out first. THEN I'd die an ecstatically happy man. They, OTOH, would need psychotherapy for the rest of their lives to try to forget the entire experience.

Zero chance. Take it to the bank. (Using the oft incorrect phrase from Mr. TV. I
Hope it works in reverse as always!)

Very good run, weak pass offense but have a habit of hitting some long balls after run, run, run. Would remind you somewhat of Navy. One of two alternating QB's is a very good runner.

Jailbreak defense with many starters returning. Gave up a ton of yards (640) vs Bosie St but beat them by winning the turnover battle.

Former ND HC, Bob Davie, is starting his 6th year with the Lobos.

Seriously../a dream season is we find a way to beast Washington on the road and start 3-0...and create hype for Iowa...play of the two Iowa and Michigan tooth and nail but fall back to 3-3

Split with Illinois and Minnesota...4-4

Bear Indiana 5-4

Lost to Michigan state 5-5

Beat penn state and Maryland to get to 7-5...4-5 in confrence and end up in the gator or San Fran bowl

That is our best case for 2016 that I think we have any reasonable chance to hope for...and it will take a lot to get there

fantasy land by the OP plain and simple. Its about getting the program back on its feet this year with a strong foundation and creating a new culture. Its about trying to cut the gap of huge blowout losses caused by terrible coaching by the previous regimes. Wins and losses arent so important...team could maybe go 7-5 if everything works out but not likely. Its totally delusional to think that RU is sweeping home games. Its not negative, its reality. Hope we can steal a big win at home for confidence for the program and fans but lets deal with reality here as fans

Never admit defeat before the game is played. That is nonsense IMO. If you go to the game and complain about everything you don't help the team. Hopefully, the stadium will be electric for all home games and we have a chance to win each game.

That doesn't mean I would bet on us to run the table. I just cannot understand anyone who admits defeat today for games to be played in the Fall. Change the loser mentality. Make a lot of noise if you attend the games.
