The Sooners get in with a 16-14 record, the worst winning percentage for an at-large team since 1983, when Monmouth was included at 14-14. The last time a team with just 16 wins made the field as an at-large was in 2005 when Purdue went 16-12. Oklahoma's inclusion was precedent-setting.

...Oklahoma's inclusion is the biggest head-scratcher if we are truly talking full body of work. Rutgers beat four other at-large teams -- NC State, Virginia, Minnesota and Michigan. Oklahoma beat one.

Picking a team that was one loss from a .500 record just because it scheduled well is bad optics.

Nice analysis.

This team was bi-polar. You never knew what to expect. Some really bad games plus last period collapses cooked their chances.

I had Oklahoma in, for whatever it's worth. Top 35 RPI, major conference, winning conference record. Only one team with those characteristics has missed in the last 18 years.

As I say occasionally, the exercise I do is based on what I think the committee will do, not what it should do. I think major conference teams get too much credit for playing in major conferences, and that's what happened here with Oklahoma. Also, the B12 wasn't really very strong this year - there were just three teams in the RPI top 50, and Oklahoma 0-4 against the other two RPI top 50 teams and 3-3 against the three teams between RPI 50 and 70. (Not to mention that I seem to recall a year in which RU had a comparable record v. RPI top 50 and didn't get in.)

Winning conf. Record in a ho hum conf. Them being in is bs. Somebody pushed hard and they found an angle as flawed as it is.

Interesting that Dawn Staley is complaining about how the NCAA selection committee has treated South Carolina over the years, shipping them off to faraway venues where their fans cannot easily get to. Hmmmm. What do CVS and Dawn Staley have in common? It makes me wonder if there is a bias within the NCAA.

Been saying that for years.
