Game 16 Purdue: Recruiting needs to pick up

NCAA should require all basketball employees of all schools to report any knowledge of info regarding possible payments to any recruit. So if our staff has reason to believe a recruit was paid by another they should be forced to come forward with the allegation.

Insider trading is not tolerated and the SEC does its best to stop it. Why can’t the NCAA do the same.

First, both NORTHWESTERN (and now Pitt, as well) stretch the rules--that their head coaches have always done. Can't talk much about Capel and the
O/N envelope that leaked the big bills--because a friend was involved allegedly, but both programs in the past 12 months (or less in Pitt's case) have relocated families, and used alumni boosters to promise parents and players jobs.
I don't consider that cheating; and Schiano did that when building the football
program before he left and we all know recruiting stopped.

Interesting thing about Collins and Northwestern is even with an $11 billion dollar endowment, last spring the President mandated a 10% cut in every department in the University, including every athletic program.
Link to follow.

As for Pitt, in addition to Capel learning from the master of rule-bending--it is gray, not black and white-- he has better (or as good as any) facilities than any place outside the SEC. Did you all see what South Carolina just finished building for $50 mm SC dollars which must be close to $70 million
NJ construction dollars. That link will be in next post w/the Northwestern link.

The reality is that nobody turned Schiano's program in {not saying it was at his direction, but...} for the same reason we will never turn narc on anyone else now. First, you lose access to the most important resource you have (even more so with these silly proposed Rice committee rules)-- ability to get into any HS gym in the country. Ask @RussWood, but our last 2 coaches were not welcome in certain HS gyms for nothing to do with this topic, but access is critical, even if you eat a couple of years like Pike did with the RC kid to create good will--was his name Bullock?

Secondly, you lose ANY flexibility in trying to improve your OCC schedule, and your in conference opponents treat you like Purdue did the other night, and not like Mich St where Izzo said only nice things in early December when he could have beat us by double digits.

Greene Rice FIG "Makes me want to follow Ivy League basketball."

I hear you; but unfortunately it goes on in the Ivy's also.
Shamaker also learned from same guy as Capel. Harvard, Penn, and Princeton all do the samethings to get kids in the three sports that matter---hoops, lax, and still football- but that sport is starting to not be starved). And these programs have boosters almost as good as ACC/SEC boosters.

All three have moved parents/gotten jobs/and leaned on admissions for any
kid they really feel will be a difference-maker.

McClung isnt a Big 10 talent level...so who is at RU? That does not say much for our roster. RU has a good one in Mathis that has broken out like McClung

McClung has hit double digits in his last 8 games, he missed 4 games recently with an ankle injury but came back with 16 vs Providence including a buzzer beating 3 to put the game in OT and 24 tonight vs Marquette a top 25 school...gee I guess that not Big 10 level.....and also had 18 vs Syracuse and 38 against Little Rock....is McConnell better than him? is that what you are saying

Look I dont think we have to badmouth McClung to prop our roster up. The kid can play and we had and him lost him. Its a loss, telling people its not is total spin Hawk and you know it given how the team is struggling mightily right now with very little scoring options. He would have made our team better.

when you count on Kiss and Thiam to be key cogs and they do not produce its an issue. We were assured that Kiss was the best shooter on the team....same thing with Nigel Johnson..and now hearing it with Jacob Young....its endless cycle I could go back further to other coaching regimes...the best guy is always sitting out. Next year the additions of Mulcahy and Young certainly help but talent wise we are still in the bottom 4 of the league

Hawk you have an optimistic take...and it can go that way but its going to take some really big time recruiting at a higher level than we currently are recruiting. I think you even have to admit that. The misses and no shows are hurting the timeline of the rebuild right now and suddenly RU is a team without much depth.

teams do not lose by 35 every night, but now its 3 of 4 where RU was blitzed off the court and while I was high after the OSU win.....if you add in the bad December we had, its been a challenging time for us all. That being said I think RU beats Northwestern on Friday night. Team can play well its just such a small window they have to seize those wins.
why does this crap always happen at ru,,,we land maclung, and like some friggin bad karma lose him...now he's a freshman sensation...football isn't much different...we lose russo, and he's playing well for temple.....players go elsewhere, or flip ,and end up starting, and playing well with there new team
i've been witnessing this nightmare for over 40 yrs now.,,,,its the the sosososos...over, and over again..a real true to life ground hog day...a nightmare that never ends....a hoops team that goes to a final 4, and fizzles out the next 40 plus years,,,a fb team with one truly memorable year,.in the last 100 plus years...and people wonder why recruits aren't storming the banks.to come here,,,,,dose anyone have a solution to this same old shite?
