Nothing more to say. This is a bad team. Pikiell has recruited poorly. His in game coaching is absolutely brutal. He did nothing NOTHING at all to change the course of this game when his team was struggling. His players made the same bushel of mistakes they made in earlier games. They cannot make a stop to save their lives. They foul everytime down. I will add as we go along but what we saw today was an indictment of Coach Pikiell, his system, his poor recruiting and his inability to even run an offense.

We can nitpick individual plays but why bother. Fact is this team is 3-3 and in the end will basically play the same game everytime. Bad teams lose, even when they should win. A 15 point lead with about 8 minutes. Sitting guys like Jones and Agee for much of the 2nd half of the 2nd half even though they provided big sparks. UMass could not stop our inside game and then we went away from it, by the time we went back to it, we were misfiring and tight. We ran shot clocks down to 2 only throw up desperation shots even the Mag made shot was under duress from the shot clock. Coach you have to help these guys out. Dont get me started on Pike allowing Caleb our worst free throw shooter to touch the ball with 36 seconds, that was criminal. In the end a bad coach allows his team to repeatedly foul on 3 pointers...6 times in 2 games, has to be at least 10 for the night. He prepared his team very little to defend the 3 and virtual no adjustment was made. Credit the Umass coach who actually coached his team to a win, great strategy drawing fouls and going a bit of zone late because Rutgers is simply so predictable in crunch time.

It does not matter, they played harder and with more effort for 30 minutes and they shot 55%, any team that lets that half play out as it did against an inferior team deserves to lose, its on both coach and players and note that Ron Harper disappeared this game when we needed him to take charge. I predicted a loss today so that part isnt surprising. The one thing this game did do was CEMENT my feelings that we are a bottom feeder this year and likely next and that Pikiell is in serious trouble with future seasons if he does not land studs in the portal. Pike will be given 2 more years after this one definitely but it could get very scary

Gonna be interesting to see what happens next year when Cliff leaves after the season. And probably have to be on watch for Jones to leave too.

Agree with what you are saying except for the time frame (I say two instead of three including this one, esp if Cliff And Jones bail if we have a really bad year)

Don’t always agree, Bac, but this is spot on. The fact you could sense a loss become inevitable is the worst part. No heart, no backbone and certainly no confidence. That’s on the coaching staff, which is busy doing who knows what. Soft teams are soft and that’s inexcusable. Give me a talent-deficient team that busts its back and plays hard for 40 minutes over a lazy, sloppy, weak-minded allegedly-talented team every time.

The reason we went away from the inside game is because they played zone all 2nd half. They took away the inside game. They had to. They knew that.

That's when you a bury a team. A couple of timely 3s and the momentum stops and we don't even have this discussion. Nope not us. 3 pointers aren't part of our game. Apprarently we're going to continue to ignore perimeter shooting. Never mind that the 3 point stripe completely revolutionized basketball like 30 years ago. Lets forget about that little painted stripe and throw the ball into the peach basket.

How about we assemble a baseball lineup with 8 singles hitters. Lets get a soccer team with with no striker. Lets get a football team with no absolutely passing game (ha). How will all these teams fare?

(btw this doesn't excuse the totally weird rotations Where was Hyatt today?? he's been our most consistent player)

Pike needs to keep a list of all the guys who are killing us from behind the arc. In the off season find a way to get one of them to transfer here.

This is what UMass shot from the field today so tell me again why we are playing our “defensive “ guys “ much.
Pike made no adjustments in his pick and roll coverage after that made at least 5 or six threes running the same play and lifting their guard on the man who tagged the roller. You have to switch up who tags and tag from the weak side . At least make them skip the ball and hopefully we can close them out on the weak side.
Then the biggest mistake of all; not calling timeout after the last make to set your d up. That alone shows how bad an in-game coach Pike is. Also , what is his staff doing not alerting him to it during the previous time out. Ridiculous

Offense was not remotely the problem today. We just don’t defend, plain and simple. We had a double digit rebound advantage and shot 53% from the floor (compared to 47% for UMass) and 80% from the line. But we gave up a staggering 16 three pointers on 50% shooting. That’s where the game was lost. UMass netted an extra 13 more points by making 16 threes compared to only 3 for RU and they only won by 2.

Glad I was on the road tonight and couldn't watch or listen. I don't need any more grey hairs.

Never been a fan of his coaching or player rotation. Didn't see the game but not surprised except to see the collapse. Oh well.

Summed it up beautifully. The turnovers Caleb had today when he just needs to SLOW THE F DOWN, plus the rotation today with playing oscar as long as he did. There is no positives to take from today. None. Mag played decent. Cool. Cliff is an athletic monster. Already knew that. There is literally nothing we learned today about this team except pike loves running out the clock in a sport where NO ONE does that because that’s reserved for football haha.

This team will need more than one 3 point shooter after so many players leave at the end of the season.

Why is everyone so worried about CO leaving he is not a centerpiece for any team. Compliment playerwho lacks court smarts and awareness.. every single team we have played so has sucked. Wait until we get into heart of our schedule and there are no more patsies to rough us up

Doesn’t need to be a centerpiece. Any team would gladly take him if he wants to leave.

Pike has intimated that this could be Cliff’s last year if you’ve listened to him closely. But it’s been more in the context of him going pro.

So one team made adjustments and one didn't.

This collapse is just hard to believe after the last two years. Good coaches just don’t let it happen. We will win no B1G games this year. Where is Eddie Jordan when we need him?

No one mentioned something so obvious and something so important. Ron Harper’s back.

was the reason he was in a funk vs Lafahette. Huge factor tonight. He catches the ball while moving 6 feet from the basket and instead of going up strong he passed it to Mag who was out of bounds

he was in obvious pain during a time out
