Gavin Griffiths

A couple of months ago - Cam Spencer. Douby shot 38.9% from three for his career at RU.
Shooting percentages are deceiving … they don’t tell the full story. His junior year Douby averaged 25 PPG vs 13 for Cam. Cam is more of a spot up 3 Pt specialist whereas Douby was a more versatile scorer. I see Gavin more in that mold.

Look at how quickly Big Cliff gained muscle. He’ll be just fine with a lifting program. I’m excited for this kid.
He's within 5-10 lbs of Caleb's listed weight and by the start of the season will likely be right around what Caleb weighed.

I think he'll probably be the best freshman in the country. More than likely. I see Carmelo Anthony in his year up at Syracuse. More likely than not, he'll lead us, at minimum, to a final four. Then he'll be a lottery pick.
Just to be clear, like everyone else here, I've never attended any of his games, ever.

LOL - nice, some of us have attended a game or games and/or watched streaming games.

Uh what?? You mean Mack?
I meant Mike Williams. I was trying to make a point.

Great shooting doesn’t always translate to a higher level.

To compare a player that hasn’t played a game here to Quincy Douby is utterly stupid.

A 7 footer in HS will be 7 feet when he arrives. A guy with sick athletic skills will have sick athletic skills when he arrives. Shooting is a complete different story.

Don't disagree with comparing anyone to Dooby before they ever step foot on campus but let's be clear here. Mike Williams was a career 28% 3p shooter 😆

Mike Williams shot 28.5% from 3 point range and averaged 9 ppg. Great shooter?

He wasn't a career 28% shooter as a prospective shooter. He was the sniper we desprrately needed and hadn't had since Douby.

His odds of being that great shooter are probably pretty high, but it is far from given.

Maybe we should look for the 2nd best shooter in the area.

Idk what you're getting at here. He was not a good shooter at Rutgers. But whatever floats your boat bud

If the comparison is to freshman Douby, I can definitely see Griffiths with comparable stats if he's as advertised. Douby averaged 12.5 points on .425/.426/.826 shooting. And don't forget, Douby took a big step back his sophomore year before breaking out his final year.

Douby was so much fun to watch. He was curry before curry. Those games at the garden….. pulling up from deep. So much fun to watch.
Please don't make that comparison. What I remember about Douby was that he was a great shooter and not a great defender.

Douby filled the lanes and had a lot of steals. He was a willing and active defender
We will have to disagree on that one. I don't think that being a willing and active defender necessarily makes you a good defender. Spencer had a lot of steals, and was a willing and active defender, and his defense was average at best IMO.

Gavin is so much more than just a 3 point shooter and thats what i love about his game. He has one of the purest jump shots we have ever had at Rutgers. He does it all and just when you think you have the jump shot covered, he will drive to the hoop and make the defender look foolish.

He’s going to have a great freshmen year and an even better 2024.

In high school Mike Williams was considered the best shooter in NYC.
I loved Mike as a person, but he had one of the most disappointing careers at RU. Never came close to the player we thought we were getting. He was still a valuable member of the team, but never lived up to his ranking.

I agree. Compared to Douby as an incoming freshman or almost any incoming freshman, while he can absolutely shoot the rock, Gavin has an all around game. On top of that, Gavin will be coached up this summer and fall to improve his game, learn our defense etc. And lastly, Gavin has a much better team around him which gives him more chances to make big contributions.

Gavin is going to have a great freshman year. Can’t wait!!

He’s saying that people need to chill.

Gavin is a great shooter in high school, but there’s no guarantee that transfers over to Rutgers.

He is using Mike Williams’ reputation of being the best shooter in NYC as an example. Mike came to RU and certainly was not a shooter.

People need to let Gavin’s career out. It’ll be what it will be.

I would say Douby was an okay to slightly better than average defender. He wasn't a great on ball defender by any means. But he was disruptive with long arms and terrific anticipation.

I have seen Gavin many times. He is a great and creative shooter and will could be the third leading scorer after Cliff and Cam. Again,he is not a one or 2 and done player.

If he is going to be such a great and creative shooter, why is he not a potential 1 or 2 and done player?

Especially if he is a potential All Big Ten Freshman team candidate.

He's going to be great.....but not good enough to garner NBA looks?
