Gavin Wimsatt Commits to Kentucky!!

In the Indiana game, the play that changed the momentum was GW’s long TD run. It’s a team sport. We need everyone to perform to win. IMO, to say a defense that won us games has to be Iowa like. In addition to keep opponents from scoring, it needs to score or TOs that can setup the O to score.
That’s a pretty big stretch. It’s perhaps fair to say that TD was the icing on the cake, but we had already built a 10 point lead on the opening drive TD in the second half and forced 2 back to back Indiana punts. Look - he was fine in the Indiana game. I’m just saying, any quasi mobile QB would’ve won that game. Indiana couldn’t stop the run. Not many teams as bad as it as them.
I'm still smarting (maybe it should be "dumbing" 😜 ) over the fact that they picked Gavin over Cole Snyder, leading to him leaving. Please don't mention that he seemingly was forced to leave Buffalo get a shot to be the starter at Central Michigan. That will work against my narrative that they made a mistake. I don't like to admit I was wrong.
Never said the coaches were bad. I said they weren’t able to help Gavin, and I expected that he would get the needed guidance at Kentucky.
Why though? What's so special about the Kentucky staff that you would expect he get the guidance he needs? That is didn't get from the Rutgers coaches.
Is the Kentucky staff supposed to be good?

GW 143 rushing yards 3 TDs
KM 109 rushing yards 0 TDs
We were up by 3 at the half.
it is all very subjective. I just think discounting that any one can run for 143 yds and 3 TDs is a stretch
Yes - he had a great 75 yard design run TD in the game that was well executed against a team that struggled all season to defend the run. He had 16 design run plays called for him in that game, including 2 one yard TDs.
Realistically though, his stats from that game reflect nothing whatsoever of his QB decision making skills. They were design rush plays planned out(by our coaches - not him) strategically against a bad rush defense. Credit him for capitalizing, but don’t take it for more than it was. No adjustments required on his part. There’s a reason that 30% of his total rush production for the season came on that one game. The strategy wouldn’t work against any half decent D.
There are a couple of things- been seeing someone continue to post that GW was the worst QB in P5...Which wasn't true- he was the worst "passer"

Now- an interesting thought...Imagine if he didn't win the starting job and went into the portal as our backup 4 star QB that never got to play.

And let's be real about 3 TDs. Two of those were tush push TDs from the 1 yard line. Any QB could have made them. One could make the argument that one of the RBs would have liked to have had a TD on their stat sheet.
Hilariously ironic low-class attempt to class-shame someone based on a brand's use of the word "class" in their product naming. Doubly ironic in how it lends strong support to the aforementioned assertion that you lack class.
TBH, while I don't miss the CE board at all, I *do* kinda miss watching you shoot yourself in the foot so often. 🙂
Al throwing the staff under the bus now. My how things have changed.
11 of those TDs were rushing TDs. 6 of those rushing TDs were 1 yd tush pushes. Not the stuff of legends. Don't want to sound mean to Gavin, but let's not make out over half of those rushing TDs to be some some of QB read or feat of great athleticism.
So winning 7 games blinded you to the coaches' shortcomings in coaching Wimsatt?? You realize them now only after he's transferred? You're digging a deeper and deeper hole.
This is where the focus should be. The RU bar has been raised. That’s a good thing.

and while we all know his accuracy sucked- we also did not have sure handed WR's/TE's either.
And those 5 non TP TD's still is a big positive you don't get from some others.
He did not prove to be a good QB- not arguing that. But when some say he was the worst- you do have to take in his 500 yds and TD's on the ground- the same way some guys get credit for a screen pass a RB takes 75 yards to the house...
And the bigger point was- "what if" he did not get the auto nod from GS last year and was our backup- and he jumped into the portal and ended up with an SEC team- The guys blasting him starting would be the one blasting GS for letting him get away. lol
Is Gavin a good kid? Probably. I have no idea but that's the baseline expectation for Schiano guys. Wish him nothing but the best.

Huh? The game where he threw an awful short-yardage pass that was picked and run back 90 yards for a TD? Same game where he was 10-25 for 130 yards? If that's playing very well - let alone everyone needs to up their game vs OSU - you're perfect example of my prior post.

It's not necessary to dis Wimsatt in the way some are doing. The truth is simply that we found someone better. You can be satisfactory at your job and still get replaced when your boss finds someone who can do your job better.
It's crazy I see Rutgers fans on the Kentucky board with negative takes on Gavin? Wtf? Those are the guys that didn't want him starting, even as the team won more games than they have in a decade.. A new QB with what is supposed to be a superior passing skill set was brought in to go along with new receiving weapons. Be excited about that...don't go try to put negative energy on the man, the team has moved on from him and he has moved on to another team. Focus on yourself...
I don't understand it, he's not even on the team anymore. Not to mention hes the winningest Rutgers QB in over 10 years...guys are pissed even with a new QB they are still pissed about Gavin; traveling from message board to message board to let everyone know their opinions on him lol..
I can be real about the tush push TDs. Can you be real about his 80 yd TD run? Did KM have a longer TD run? Who was the last QB that ran for a longer TD? Better yet, who was the last RB that had a TD run that was longer?
KM did not have 10 other players blocking for him, including two RBs. 😜 Pacheco ran at TD for 80 yards against Michigan.
The 80 yard TD run is a nice highlight, but it is not the making of a career, is it?
I'm not sure what you are getting at here. The coaches made their decision, and it's next QB up. Maybe time will prove that they should have kept GW, but that's water under the bridge. I wanted GW to stay, but he chose to leave. He could have stayed and battled for the starting role. I'm fine with his decision, and I wish him well (again).
Gavin is not on the team anymore and AK is now the starter...don't try and validate your opinions on him, this board, mods included have been nothing but negative about Gavin despite the wins. As soon as AK committed as a transfer there was a podcast naming the guy pushed out of Minnesota as the new Rutgers starter. Now because an sec school and not a MAC school has picked him up you feel nervous that he may prove your emotional opinions wrong. Rutgers will be good next year no matter what, defense is top notch and schedule is s favorable but it remains to be seen what Gavin can do if he's named starter along with sec talent. If the thought of Gavin doing well makes you nervous, scared or upset that is terrible on your part. I'll be rooting for him to win the starting job and dominate in the sec..
Defending a QB who couldn't pass the ball is hysterical. If Gavin becomes the next Tom Brady good for him. What is terrible is people like you that think he can still be a 4 star as that is delusional!

Can we all just say he ain't perfect but damn, gave it all for us and got us 7 wins.
Now- He gets to move on and it is still on him to prove himself, but he is home. That is never a bad thing.
For us- let's just hope that our new guy gets us 7+ wins against a much easier schedule- still tough as hell but easier than last year.

I agree on everything in your post except the bolded. I don't understand some of you. We got to 6-2 and all of you were happy even after we imploded to go 6-6. Of course we could have done a lot better with another QB on the roster.
The 80 yd TD run was not a RB lead. KM was not blocking. If Pach is the only other runner that scored from 80 yds out, GW is in good company. My point is that I’m tired of people downplaying GW’s running ability.
But how good was he at being a QB throwing the ball which is important for being QB??? Talk about ignoring the big elephant in the room.
I didn’t argue about his passing abilities. My only beef is people downplaying his running ability.
