Gotta love the Jr. Day recruits comments

Are you kidding? Plenty of kids commit during junior days. Kids commit because of adrenaline rushes from these types of events...where other commits get them pumped up about playing together.

If you think this is out of the ordinary I would suspect you should pay more attention. Maybe it hasn't happened at Rutgers recently but t happens at other rising programs

An example of recruits (top) committing at Junior Day to new staff upon their first time meeting them at "rising" program would be?

I've never seen it. Yeah it happens at "established" programs maybe but it doesn't happen with new staffs. How many recruits committed on the spot at Michigan JR day last year?

No one said "top" recruits for Rutgers. Why do you think this is the first time some recruits are meeting Ash? Ohio state recruits NJ.

One thing no one has mentioned, there was well over 100 juniors that attended Saturday's "Junior day." And, probably 90% were from NJ. There is a whole state of Florida, the Midwest, some of Texas, as well as ACC country to address. We have a long way to go with the class of 2017, with an absolutely great turn out on Saturday, this program is just skimming the surface of possible recruits/commits.
Very excited!

The proof is in the signings and performance on the field.
Sports is results oriented and is based on winning as the measure for success. What happens this time of year is preparation for the battles on the field and contacts with recruits. What seems positive now can quickly change when recruits make verbal commits to other schools .The bottom line is that nobody knows what will happen this season .

Listen, I'm a HUGE Ash fan, who couldn't stand Flood the last 2 years and 3 months of his regime, but let's let things play out. These boards turned into a hostile environment for a good spell, due to a few posters turning tweets into "Dream Team '16" in order to build up a following to start their new board, but these guys knew no more than you or I in the end. Let's not go down that path again, please, just let the commits happen (and I do believe we're going to be very, very happy come next February...). .

A couple points;

1. OSU positionally recruits. See Fuller Ash was DB coach
2. It's more than just Ash are position coaches not important? They have to like their HC and thier position coaches

I can see Ash possibly having relationship with maybe 3-5 guys in the state from OSU because they would have to be national guys to be considered.

Early commits just lead to eraly decommits. It doesn't necessarily reflect on the staff either. All these kids still have their OV's and unofficial visits to take and they get enamored with all the schools they see. There is plenty of time. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, it only leads to frustration.

Same thing every year with the NJ kids, talk the talk, yet walk out the state with every chance they get. NJ has an identify crisis being next to NY. There is little state pride, and parents don't have it, and they don't pass it along to their kids. I hope Ash is working the parents as much as the kids to build pride to represent their state. Ash got a piece of reality with his first recruiting class. Kids fleeing like cockroaches in light. I am sure it was a wake up call compared to Ohio kids, and other states where the kids actually want to represent their state. I hope it will be different next year, and he will hold true to his motto - fight or flight. You want to leave the stage, bye, but there will be other states with similar kids that he will go after. He will recruit nationally. Got to start changing the whole culture of the state, so it's not just a punchline to a joke.

What is different about what Ash is telling these kids vs what Flood told the "2016 dream team" kids? I'm curious to hear quotes from the 2016 jersey recruits NOW as to the reasons they chose NOT to stay home. If Flood was such a bad coach and terrible recruiter, why didn't more kids give Ash and Co a bigger look once they came on board, as others have said, Ash had to have some relationships built with the top jersey kids coming over from a school that heavily recruits Jersey. Really interested to know if there is something deeper than just coaching relationships holding kids back? Facilities? Campus life? Immediate potential for on field team success?

Poor performance on and off the field the last year soured the recruit's view of RU, it is hard to change that perception in a few weeks.

Reppin_Jerz, you asked when was the last time a bunch of kids talked about staying home and making good things happen in NJ, well, I believe it was last year at this time when the dream team class of 2016 had their junior day and all the talk and tweets were about staying in NJ. None did, Flood couldn't keep them here. The difference will be if this group of coaches can seal the deal and keep them here, let's hope they get it done. Could be the start of something big but let's not get carried away by their comments. The recruits always say nice things about their visits regardless of the school. there is a long long way to go.
You make it sound like the Girl who is ready ,willing and able to do IT, but still needs to be talked into it a bit more.So WE TALK to them a bit more. The results warrant it (in both situations).:sunglasses:

Every Coach's Junior Day has its own atmosphere and every competent coach has their own set of objectives for the day - and in the case of Ash, it is a safe bet that his objectives were quite detailed...but also more far reaching & overall program oriented - . and it would probably be a good guess that many of his goals for the day were fulfilled. Highly doubt that Ash is hung up on micro metrics of whether 48 hours after junior day, they got a high school junior prospect to make a non-binding proclamation regarding where he will sign 12 months from now.

Seems like the goals were to establish meaningful dialog with top tier NJ recruits & get them to write Rutgers into their minds as a genuine viable opportunity & as a place where they will have a superior path to fulfilling their on & off field potential. Based upon the feedback - it would seem this was accomplished.

An anxious coach with job security concerns might be chomping at the bit to land a recruit - but coach on a mission to establish a new direction, a new vision and new atmosphere is not going to be fixated on how many "commits" he gets on junior day - they will be focused on the big picture.

Proof is in the proverbial pudding. If we look like a Pop Warner squad next year junior day will be long forgotten
If we look like we are playing above our talent level and making fundamental strides then a few of these guys may give the state school a sniff. We have dug a pretty deep hole around here but that is where we usually dwell so maybe Ash can expedite the process of recovery.

What the heck are you talking about?

Remember in grade school when you had to do science projects with an objective, hypothesis, test procedures and conclusion? Wouldn't it have been nice if you could write the objective and hypothesis AFTER performing the test procedures? That's pretty much what you just wrote...how do you know Ash's objective wasn't to secure one meaningful recruit that he has built a strong relationship with? Were you sitting in the coaches meeting prior to the jr day?

Here you go again Husky, calling names, you must be a real pleasant person to be around.

Believe Krimin committed on or close to last years Junior Day...RU needs something like that to get this ball rolling...
Just calling you out and will continue to do so.

BEACED has a way with words that might be a little different and come from experience, however, this isn't exactly difficult to figure out.

Whatever! It was still, IMO, a ridiculous response. Anyone, anywhere, trying to recruit a player, a potential employee, trying to get a deal on a car, doesn't matter, can be compared to getting a girl to do IT. So what was the point. He also said that I was saying it, which I wasn't. He did.

Anyone disappointed we didn't get a commit yesterday has very unrealistic expectations (and is quite possibly trolling to dampen people's enthusiasm).

One thing I noted from reading the juniors' comments: So many stated how different the coaching staff was -- and in the positive sense. Had many of them visited before? Was the vibe so different under Flood? In what way? I don't want to get into any Flood bashing (God knows, I've had my fill) but what is so different about a Flood Junior Day and an Ash Junior day?

There's a great quote in a TOS premium article, recently, about Flood, his staff, and their poor recruiting habits. Ash has a lot of fence-mending to do unfortunately.

I think that was self-evident. Sometimes it's hard to see the damage as it's happening because we want to believe the best. When commits started jumping ship and all the good will from the hs coaches it took a decade to build evaporated virtually overnight, there was a lot more behind that than a few games in the loss column.
