I don’t buy these fans who claim they just sit there silently when we’re playing poorly and say nothing. Granted, they may not post it but they are absolutely talking to their buddy, wife, kids, yelling at the TV, etc., about how we’re not playing well, this particular player is struggling, Pike needs to make adjustments, etc.
I mostly sit there silently, but that doesn't mean I'm not thinking those things.

I comment on coaching strategies and substitutions if I don’t like them in the moment.
I comment on bad shot selection, turnovers and WTF plays in the moment.
I played at the highest level, made plenty of bonehead and WTF plays, I expected to hear about and be held accountable for it.

We were absolutely horrific in the first half offensively. Is that even debatable? We are all glad they turned it around. That said there were definitely some over the top posts, and the game obviously was not over yet. Many of us thought it could turn around and it did. But simply speaking out about how bad they played in the first half I see nothing wrong with.
Some of these are critical analysis. If you can’t do that during a game, what’s the point. Personal comments about players, I don’t feel the need to post them.
A lot of them don’t really appreciate the game itself and all that goes into it. They only care about the result. Or they post to relieve their stress or to express over the top analysis… depending on how the game is going.

Your stock market analogy is an interesting one because the market recovering 100% of the time is only true if you live long enough. The Dow Jones did not reach its 1929 level again until 1954 - 25 years. So maybe Rutgers fans just tend to think like it’s 1929 All the time. And given our track record, maybe that’s justified? 🤔🙂
Haha I am pretty positive but I lost it during that first half. Love the kids though even when I criticize them.
Long time Rutgers fans use the game thread as a form of abreaction therapy and it's actually quite healthy. It's a reliving of the past in the present and All the emotional investment held in and released in a reliving of an experience like that in the game thread.

You hit the nail on the head. I have no oroblem with criticism when warranted but I do have a problem how said criticism is worded.
There is no excuse for it, no defense for it. It's pure selfish childishness - throwing tempter tantrums because they didn't get what they feel they're owed as fans.

FWIW, the announcers said during the game that Caleb is shooting 15% from 3 in Big 10 games this year. That means he should almost never be hoisting up 3 point shots, so that much was true. He is an elite defender, an absolutely key piece on this team and pretty good offensively when he sticks to short/mid-range jumpers and put backs around the rim. Those are the facts. His chucking up 4 or 5 threes a game definitely hurts the RU offense.
I might sit there and have some negative thoughts (like "this sucks"). But I don't sit there and think "this or that player sucks". Not ever.
And having inner thoughts that are negative and using some self-control to keep those thoughts to ourselves is, in part, what being an adult is about. Learning to control one's emotions is part of what we, as parents, teach our children. If one cannot control themselves over a sporting contest, how's one going to function well in life where far more serious shit takes place?
Why would I try to control myself from thinking a player sucks? Sometimes players suck.
A lot of complaining about the game thread here, but few suggestions on how to fix it. You want it to be different? Go in there and spread positivity. Everyone who hates the awful hate in those things, go overwhelm it with love. Otherwise, you're wasting your time worrying about it.

None of our starters or regular bench players suck. OTOH, our fans often suck, but nobody's giving them D1 scholarships for it.
Any player can have a bad game. Or can be outplayed by a better player. That doesn't mean the player sucks.
But I really don't care what people do. They can think what they want to think, say what they want to say. I mostly just ignore it. This thread, however, is absolutely spot on and if it's okay for fans to bash the players, then it's okay for for adult fans to bash the out of control children fans.

People can do what they want. And we can all be assholes sometimes. But for the folks who tear down the players and then refuse to admit that they're engaging in asshole behavior is where it gets too stupid to let go.
