I think the transfers are happening, but just not to Rutgers. We don't know if they were ever serious about the Rutgers part, or just changed their minds.
Haven't seen Penn St or Iowa lose any title contenders. Facundo is the only one so far that could AA
There is another story going around that Aj was talking to Cardenas, "who you training with", cardenas points at Heidselman, supposedly Aj responds something like "that fat F***, .....to me that's a more believable story

The only thing we've heard is Goodale is making a lot of phone calls. We have 3 to 4 weights to fill and there's been no movement. We're probably going to have to lower our sights to mere borderline NCAA qualifiers.

Therein lies the problem. RU does not have the mega donor, that these other programs have. I think we do a good job raising money, but we cannot keep up with programs that have individuals ready to spend millions per year. So we are not going to get the big transfer portal guys. We need the middle guys that are not going to demand the big payouts.
Until Peterson commits to another school he's still a Rutgers wrestler in my eyes. Yara did the same thing last year. Guys are always looking for the highest price. Rutgers gave him an offer and he is seeing if someone can beat it.

The head coach needs to find big donors to support his program. That is how it works now. The peanuts from the average fan doesn't cut it. The leader of the program needs to find big donors or go find a new job. No one is saying its easy but some can do it better than others.
It's not just money, but money is more a part of it than before NIL, when many thought it was about money. Does Rutgers not have wealthy graduates? Does NJ not have wealthy people? Is there no corporation that could be convinced to sponsor a NIL deal?
It's always been about money even before NIL. Money helped kick start the psu reign to the tune of $6mil. and it's the sole reason for the resurgence of Okie St. while also keeping Iowa relevant. Before it was buying athletes it was buying coaches and resident athletes for their clubs.
If the Head Coaches in all college sports program have to be big donor getters than many sports will be without head coaches. Some are just not great at money raising.
It's part of the job now unfortunately. Schiano has said multiple times now a lot of his job is raising NIL funds and more of a CEO role.
Getting donors is part of job function of being a head coach. See what the mods have to say about Schiano getting funds.
In most successful programs the head coach is responsible for two things, recruiting and financial development.
Those are pretty much accepted facts, like it, or not.
This is changing in some places. Many college football programs are hiring general managers to take care of that stuff so coaches can coach.
GM's are for strictly managing the money, contracts and being the go between, between agents/player/coach. Coaches are the faces of the program and the ones who have to be able to raise the money. Goodale's a good guy, but these are now shark infested waters he's swimming in, golf outings and pin pools just aren't going to cut it in today's pay for play.
That is a bit of a blanket statement. I’m sure the role can vary from school to school. But GMs for programs that have them and ADs alike are absolutely involved in raising money. A big reason for having them is to help coaches who all they do these days is recruit and fund raise, get back to coaching

I’m sure most kids are waiting for the market to play out and want the highest offer. Will most of the kids take the money and call it a day or will they put the work in and earn their money? Can they handle the pressure of the big contract and how do they collect? Are all of these contracts iron clad with the boosters because the school has nothing to do with it? Lol
Those are some good questions. I had asked similar questions about resident athletes: What are they required to do for the money? I got one answer: "To wrestle." Brilliant. There is an effect of being paid a large amount of money that could demotivate some individuals when they see themselves set financially. Any attempt to connect the money to performance/effort won't work unless all the programs do it. The kids need to remain motivated with their wrestling goals without allowing the financial aspect to impact that part of their lives.
I hope at least qualifier level. I presume Brandon Torranzo is just an afterthought?

3+ years is a lifetime in the new world of college wrestling. If he overachieves the first year, he is probably gone to the highest bidder. $$$$
