I am surprised we havent heard or no one has uncovered any clues about Corey since B1GT

As a college student, he's not exactly seeing his family any more than he would be overseas. I just want to say I want him back, but I don't think he's coming back.

Great point. Overseas will have to be the option then. Or NBA g league. I know the staff has some connections that might be able to give him a shot there.

Benefits to staying, work with coach Pikiell, coach Knight, and coach Hobbs especially using his left hand. If I was Corey I would concentrate all off season on dribbling and going only left. In HS our JV coach had one of my teammates tie his right hand to his side and make him only use his left. Also used a type of blinder so he would not look at the ball while dribbling.

He would get a degree from a great university in case basketball doesn’t work out for any of a variety of reasons.

Play at a place you are loved, with teammates that you can lead.

Finish what you started putting Rutgers back on the basketball map.

The completing a degree argument is unfortunately not valid as Rutgers will easily take him back in the future and let him complete his degree whenever he wants

There are many facets to this saga. Clearly he is at a point in his life where he has to evaluate staying vs leaving. The advantages of leaving are clearly that he gets paid. Where he goes is the issue. He can not ask for an NBA evaluation of his draft status because he has used up his the two time limit so he needs to make decisions based on other kinds of information. If he believes he will be drafted into the NBA, he is gone. If, however, he thinks his only option for making money is the developmental leagues or Europe he will make money but runs the risk of being the 10th or worse guy sitting on the end of the bench. Could be a virtual career ender. If, however, he stays, the downside is no money but the upside is that he is guaranteed being the star, getting lots of PT and exposure. He has a big decision to make. He will not make it in a hurry because he doesn't have to since he has used up his early announcing and getting the NBA draft assessment status. So IMO we may not get his decision until the very latest date he can.

Listen, Corey thought he was ready after Freshman and Sophmore years. The evaluators told him he was not. Guess what, with no evaluators to tell him he is wrong I’m betting he concludes the same as prior years.

I like how realistic this is. Saying Sanders would come back and get his 3 pt percentage up at this point is just not realistic. Too hard, and it could worsen his shot if he tries to really tweak it.

Saying he can improve his left hand is totally doable, and will allow him to improve his game.

There were times this year where only one half of the court were available to him.

About 30 of them.....

The irony is him having an awesome tournament for us may have sealed his fate for not returning. He has proved he can score (minus a consistent 3pt shot) and defend, and basically filled a highlight reel for his agent from the past B1G tournament alone.

All reports indicated that Corey was going to take a few weeks and travel back to his family in Florida before making a decision. So no news is expected as of now. What will happen is that Corey will wait after the ncaas and have scouts assess where he falls given many players make their name during the dance. Again I'm not expecting him back given his personal situation and the likelihood that he can play possibly in the NBA g league

Spring break doesn’t start until March 11, so there is no way he could go to Florida until then, unless it is just for the weekend

He would be a much, much better player if he came back for another year. Not to say he can't make money playing basketball internationally without it, but for him to have any shot at the NBA he needs to come back, have a strong year individually and elevate the team (like he did for three games this week).

I think he should leave and would advise him too if I was his handler.

He needs to maximize his earnings potential in basketball. It’s unlikely he gets to nba so he needs to go overseas and make as much money as possible in the shortest amount of time.

Then why go to college at all?

There's a value in the exposure you get in college but that effect evaporates the more you play. Everybody knows what his game is at this point. While I'd love to see Sanders add a left-handed dribble or a reliable three-pointer, it's unlikely at this point he adds anything to his game for a senior season that drastically alters his future outlook.

BTW I've made the comparison before but Sindarius Thornwell from South Carolina was the path I was hoping Corey would follow. He (meaning Thornwell) improved his 3P% from 27% to 34% from his sophomore to junior season, though, while Corey's fell from 27% to 22%. I did some Googling and don't think there was any will-he/won't-he drama to return for his senior season.

From his junior to senior year, Thornwell's 3P% went from 34% to 39% and his 2P% went from 41% to 47%. He went on to be a second round pick.

Sanders was 22% from 3 and 44% from 2 this season, for reference.

Corey could easily improve on his 3pt % should he return for his senior season. His sophomore year, he shot over 32% in conference play on over 50 attempts. No reason to think as a senior he couldn't achieve higher than that for the whole season. He needs to avoid the terrible starts to the season in his overall game and shooting, improve his shooting on the road, and select better shots. As we all know, many of his 3s are contested pull-ups at the end of the shot clock.

I’m curious as to why and how Corey’s set shot mechanics have changed so dramatically over the years.

One thing I've wanted to do but not had the time is to put together a side-by-side video of his shooting threes as a freshman vs. a junior.

His shot was never consistent enough so he tried to switch things to try to get it there. Usually makes the process work. Markelle Fultz, etc.

It also just confuses the player more and has them thinking too much.

Sanders best attempt at bettering himself relies in the basics. Simple layups opposed to driving into masses and bouncing off people. Shooting with a wider stance and knowing what a good shot is, etc.

It is interesting how much he has changed his shot year after year.

He has a finite amount of years to play basketball in or near peak athletic ability

He clearly is there now. He leaves 50-250k+ on table by coming back to RU.

Your math assumes that there is nothing he could do as a senior that would increase his market value.

If he comes out this year making $75K/yr vs. coming out next year making $150K/yr, he'd be wise to stay.

The question is how much one more year at Rutgers would bump his market value, if at all.

There were 2 seniors drafted 1st round last year in the NBA draft (Hart, White), coincidently both were guards who had similar PG or SG debates as Sanders.

So Sanders should come back and improve his 3p shooting and going left in which both are feasible.

I wouldn't expect his 3P shooting to improve much next year - his ceiling is probably around .300

Granted, Russell Westbrook's 3P% isn't great either... but Sanders isn't on that level.

Too excited for the team next year. Out of the past four years, I think next years team has me most excited. Sanders staying or not.

I just see the program having a lot of fun with the options they are given. Lots of competitors on the team.

It will be great to see Johnson and Kiss play. I really like the players coming in.

Harper Jr is the sleeper of the class. I think he will be a complimentary , 12ppg 6rpg player during his time on the Banks.

But his freshman year he shot slightly better than 30% taking more 3s so maybe his ceiling is higher, especially if he can focus by deciding early to return for his senior year.

But staying for his senior year can enhance his chances of playing in the NBA, just look at Derrick White of the Spurs.

If he can get back up to his freshman year .315, that'd be great - but I don't see him improving on that. Most guys who improve their 3P% do it incrementally year by year - Corey would need to reverse a trend. If he can get to .300 for us next year, that'd be a big step forward for him.

Keep in mind, his .315 fell to .263 once conference play started his freshman year.

Happy we had him for three, if he goes it will be Europe and he will land in a good situation, He is just not NBA ready at this point and one more year of college ball will not do much for him other than get him a degree hopefully.

Buddy Hield wouldnt have been drafted if he had left after his junior year. He was the 6th pick 2 years ago. For you all to say that he cant improve his stock staying another year is crazy. Obviously it is his choice and I want him to make the best choice for him but as posted above with the SI article, there are plenty of NBA all stars that stayed 4 years.

Good points, but 4 year player Jeremy Lin shot 28% or worst his first 2 years then increased to 40%, so it’s possible.

All I know is that if also George Hill, Damian Lillard & JJ Redick returned for their senior years then Corey should consider it a nice Risk/Reward for himself, but it depends on how much better does he realistically think he can improve during his senior year.
