I always thought with 20 secs or so you dont foul
There was no point during that game that Pike should have fouled
He was lights out.
Had 0 easy/open looks. Just drained everything until he didn't.

Sorry this is not a good example… it doesn’t apply here in this game. You use the foul approach when you’re up 3 with < 3-5 seconds left to prevent the final shot from tying the game. I’m not a huge fan of that approach… I’ve seen crafty shooters get a 3 point shot off when they are fouled and even the improbable 4 pt play. There is also the scenario where they hit the first foul shot and intentionally miss the second to grab an offensive board. Although not likely there are scenarios where fouling can cost you the game if not well executed.
On the flip side if you play D and don’t foul the worst that can happen is OT
You are correct, you don’t foul there.
I’m also very against this particular team fouling in that type of scenario given the number of offensive rebounds they allow.
I'm only aware of Pike foulling when up 3 late one time - and it cost us the Ohio St game couple years ago and thus an NCAA bid when Mag fouled with 5 seconds left. Ohio St made 2 FTs and immediately fouled us. We hit 1 of 2 and Ohio St hit the 3 at the buzzer with the ineligible player who had stood out of bounds before catching the pass and draining the 27 ft shot.
I don't think Pike will ever do it again.
He should have fouled Allico with 12 seconds left when he started to drive then pulled back. JMike was on him which was a mistake Jeremiah should have been. JMike had time to foul and didn’t. Big mistake.
He should have been fouled with 12/13 seconds before he started into his move. JMike was not going to be able to guard him as he was shooting over him. He hit the shot with 11 seconds left . Pike has to foul there. This game hopefully convinces Pike to foul up 3. You can do it under 15 seconds and here could have been done with 13
The only way Ohio State won was the refs screwed up. Fouling up 3 worked initially until Not fouling up 3 because of a ref mistake shouldn’t define your strategy.
No, the time to foul was in the OT, with ND still in the 1 -1s, instead of letting him hit three 3s in a row..
But it all worked out.. ND was not going to get us this time. An imperative to win was met.

We’re currently #201 in defensive rebounding. Fouling up three is a questionable idea at any time but for a team such as this absolutely not.
Meh, the actual result is irrelevant. We put ourselves in a position to lose that game.
But to be fair the biggest thing that made the strategy terrible there was we were in the single bonus. Fouling up three in the double bonus is borderline. Fouling up three as a bad free throw shooting team in the single bonus is horrible.
we were starting to get ND into foul trouble at one point in the 2nd half then went away from that and were settling for some questionable shots. The one guy had 4 for a long time.
I just think there was too much time to foul in those situations and fouling to early at Ohio State burned Pike in the past
